Tigers to be reintroduced to the wild

Tiger Beer has donated $1 million to the World Wildlife Fund to help fight the illegal tiger trade in a scheme that will see tigers reintroduced to the Eastern Plains Landscape. The money will go toward protecting tigers in Cambodia and 12 other countries where tiger populations have dropped by more than 96 percent in the last century. 

 

There are now as few as 3,890 wild tigers left worldwide. The 3890Tigers campaign is part of a six-year global partnership between Tiger Beer and WWF in support of Tx2, a commitment by the governments of 13 countries to double the world’s wild tiger population by 2022. 

 

As one of the 13 target countries, Cambodia has committed to doubling its population by reintroducing wild tigers to the Eastern Plains Landscape, which includes Mondulkiri Protected Forest and Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary. According to WWF, the area forms part of the tiger landscape with the highest potential for recovery in Asia, due to its largely intact dry forest habitat.

How about donating money to a campaign in China against medicine containing parts of endangered animals? Kill the market then poachers will stop killing the animals....

"There are as few as 3890 tigers Worldwide" is not the total number of tigers left in the world. There are over 30,000 in captivity in the USA. Plus those in numerous wildlife parks worldwide. On saying that tigers in their natural environment still need to be protected. I have been in a cage and stroke 3 tigers in Thailand. In doing so I am able appreciate even more what magnificent animals they are and I feel even stronger in the view for the need to their protection.

saving tigers in the wild is a lost cause. the only hope for their species is zoos. they would have a better chance if they were allowed to be farmed.

Glad to see the effort. Conservation, dedication, donation, protection and education = sustainable population. Great news!

Sadly this is most probably all mouth and no trousers.

The while scheme is badly thought out and based on the release if 2 semi wild tigers released in India, both if which are now dead.

Reintroducing tigers is a hugely complicated affair and the benefits are somewhere between minimal and nil. To try and attempt this in Cambodia of all places seems foolhardy in the extreme.

They are most likely just pouring money into the forest where it will compost without a trace.

You clearly are not in possession of the facts nor do you understand why we need to have tigers in the wild. This is made quite clear by your suggestion that keeping tigers in captivity is  a valid substitute.

needed or not it makes no difference. they are going extinct, it is inevitable. the only hope they have is farming. zoo populations simply are not viable.

Again all this does is demonstrate your own lack of knowledge on the subject.

You appear to be using that cliche'd ploy of cynicism to cover up a lack of understanding of the topic. You need to inform yourself before making glib and baseless remarks.

go do some research on tiger numbers. then go do some research on why their numbers are declining. you have a lot to learn. forget about your emotions and fact the cold hard facts.
