We are faced with a dilemma which we hope you can assist us with.

We are intending to establish a small vehicle import/ export business throughout Thailand .

However first things first, we have been traveling extensively in Asia and have marketed and started exporting to Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam.

We have been here now going on eight weeks studying the market and discussing the potential of our product for Thailand. We have decided to import units for display and marketing. However, we are now told we only have five weeks left on our visa which cannot then be renewed for three months meaning we have to leave the country for three months. Well obviously this cannot work.

We are told we need to register a company now, however we are not yet ready for a company here until we test our market and make certain the units will not be held in customs as we had a bad experience in the Philippines. We need to ascertain the full cost to import our vehicles, tax etc and further ascertain the peoples reactions when we display them in places like Big C and Carrefour.

We were now told to apply for a work permit but how is this possible without a company? Also we are not working, we will emply a group of promo girls to do the shopping mall and fair promotions, then maybe set up an office as is natural progression in this type of business, there is much R & D to be done. .

Surely there must be a business visa for people like us who are studying business proposals for Thailand. The R&D alone takes more than three months! If we have to leave for three months before returning, all our work till now will have to be started all over again.

Please advise what we can do.

Is there any incorporation yet (in any country) ??

If so you may be able to obtain a non imm B in that country or your home country (again not said where you come from) get a 1 year multi B and if not ready do 90 day visa runs.

Getting a non B was easy a few years ago (simple letter of invite from a company even if not Thai registered), however I havent personally tried this in the last couple of years.

I am Australian and my associate is British but our company is Belize (the best :o ). I have a APEC business travel card by Thailand is the ONLY country in all APEC communities that have not yet processed the approvals, I can get an extra 90s with that, but this wont help my associate. I also need to bring my Filippina secretary here to do all the computer work that needs to be done.
