Vending machines allow Chinese tourists to pay via app

Three leading corporations – Kasikornbank, Sun108 and Alipay – have teamed up to develop vending machines to enable Chinese tourists in Thailand to conveniently buy food and beverages by scanning a QR code with their Alipay application.

At the initial stage, 24 machines have been installed at popular tourist sites and department stores, with an aim to expand the number to 500 machines within three years.

Supaneewan Chutrakul, KBank first senior vice president, said that users could just open the Alipay app on their smartphones to scan QR codes on the vending machines, allowing them to pay instantly.

The service aims to provide greater convenience for Chinese visitors who prefer to make such payments via Alipay – a third-party payment solution that links their bank or credit card account to a digital wallet, or e-Wallet.

Is there any reason for the racist angle on this? Last time I looked 'Alipay' is an online payment system that could be used by an African.

I hope that this machine has a button that also denseness manners.....

So no profits to Visa and MasterCard?

Lets see...Chinese app with 400 million Chinese users perhaps? Also an African can't sign up unless they magically have a Chinese bank account to link the app to. There was some talk of them expanding the service throughout Southeast Asia after they acquired the rest of Lazada earlier this year but not sure how far that has progressed yet.

It started in China in 2004 - now it's a global app.
