where to "zone out"

Featured Replies

I'd like to here about a place in Thailand that is relatively easy to get to but has a view that would allow me to just "space out" (let my mind flow) and totally relax for about 4 days. So I guess this would be a physical place and where to stay there. I hope I am being clear. Not sure.

Where from?

Are you someplace in Thailand or flying in from overseas?

Khao Yai Area. Many beatiful options there. Not cheap though.

So many options - do you like mountains, beach, river or just a nicely landscaped resort with a pool... and what is the starting point and how far do you want to travel?

mountains work for me. beaches used to do, but I havent been to a Thai beach that I liked in 20 years. too hot, for starters. in the mountains you can get cooler temp and isolation and quiet and a bit of nature. Khao Yai is a good one, although it is a hassle to get to from Bkk. Kanchanaburi is also nice.

Pai.

Chiang Khan in Loie province.. relax by the big river.. good food, nice market and great scenery... Air Asia has a flight from Don Muang to Loie and a van connection to Chiang Khan.. not may ferang tourists but weekends can be busy with local visitors..

Koh Lanta....Lanta Old Town is chill. 15 mins. by motorbike to other side of island for a night out.

I regularly go to the Khong Chiam District by the river. Wonderful place to chill.

Any room...anywhere....just close your eyes...and relax......

Check into a temple on top of a mountain in the north and live the life of a monk for a few days. It should be relaxing if not you will have a tale to tell without spending a fortune.

Hmmm. Not sure sure that would be mellow and ethereal. Not looking for a mind blow job. : )  But thanks.

Sounds good. Thanks for the details. Any specific place to stay you would recommend?

I think ease of travel more important than distance. Maybe on a cliff overlooking the ocean or on a hill/mountain overlooking a river/valley. Not looking for a resort w a pool.

Thanks for helping me formulate what I am looking for.

I have thought about Kanchanaburi. Where would you recommend staying and what is the easiest way to get there? I don't have a vehicle.

Are you saying getting to Khao Yai is easy from some place else? Where?

I have read that Pai has lost its charm. Where in Pai would you recommend staying?

My son and I just found a guesthouse by the river.. it was all in Thai so I don't know the name.. if you are planning to be there over a weekend I'd book something in advance as it can get quite busy with locals.. there are quite a few to choose from if you Google Chiang Khan.. a room with a river view is good..   enjoy!
