BANGKOK: -- Safety inspectors of the Department of Labour Welfare and Protection lodged a complaint against Charoen Pokphand Foods Company with the police last Wednesday over the death of a student trainee and four staff members of the company on June 23.

The department chief Mr Sumet Mahosot said that the safety inspectors questioned officials concerned and conducted on-site investigation and come up with the conclusion that the company had committed three safety violations as specified in the safety law and regulations on working in airless area.

He said, firstly, CPF failed to notify its staff working in the wastewater treatment pond of the risks to life involved which may occur and also failed to provide working manuals to its staff.

Safety violations  ok, but will the owners be taken to court?

No just some junior managers will take the wrap.

No mention of portable gas detectors in CPF kit...BA equipment....what training have their safety staff had.....there's probably dozens of safety breaches in this company.....unfortunately, the local authorities more than likely, have no personnel with the required experience to monitor industry at a competent level.

Fatalities at industrial sites, due to similar reasons as happened at CP, will continue.

Labour Ministry files criminal case over Charoen Pokphand deaths

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Labour Ministry has filed a criminal case with police against Charoen Pokphand Foods over five deaths at the company’s wastewater treatment plant.

If executives of CPF, a listed company, are found guilty they could face up to one year in prison and a fine of up to Bt400,000.

Sumet Mahosot, director-general of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, said the department filed the criminal case on July 19 over the five deaths last month.

The executives were accused of not informing its employees about the dangers of the plant.

Warning signs were not erected at the site, where limited air flows, and barriers were not put up to stop people entering the restricted site.

I'm sure they're all worried now.
