snoop1130
Another 70 officials suspended for alleged corruption By The Nation Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam on Thursday said that more inspections would be done after 70 officials and local political office holders were suspended on Tuesday for alleged corruption or abuse of authority. The suspension, commanded by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) via the premier’s absolute Article 44 order, was the ninth set of orders to suspend officials accused of alleged wrongdoing. The preceding eight orders have affected 353 officials. Wissanu said that procedures against them should be revealed next week. The list initially contained 90 names but was later reduced to 70. The other 20 officials held minor positions and could be dealt with by their own agencies, he said. Wissanu said officials, some of whom appeared to share common connections, were petitioned for committing grafts, misconduct, or both, he said. “All is done without political bias,” he said. A committee would also be set up within a month to probe the accused officials, he added. Don't you just love it. There is no way known grubby deals will come back to bite those in high places on the bum. Article 44 will make sure of that. ELVIS123456
The Junta is doing a good job identifying and removing the endemic corruption. Long may they continue to do it, because I dont remember it being done very much before they took over (this time). This story is just one of many things being done about corruption in Thailand now, that was not done before (such as tearing down illegal hotels, shutting down illegal super-car dealers, removing food stalls blocking roads, etc etc etc). It will take a long time but hopefully the Junta will continue to go down this path, and once they do leave power, I do hope it continues. Sure they are doing it the 'Thai way', but expecting them to use 'western methods' is just ridiculous. This is Thailand - slowly slowly catchy monkey. Cudos to the Junta on taking this approach and the outcomes.

Unfortunately, those having absolute power are the worse offenders and most corrupt and cannot be touched. This is nothing more than smoke and mirrors as an attempt to pretend they actually care. No high ranking will be prosecuted only the lower ranks without adequate connections. Give any elected PM the same power and watch the military officers fall like flies. Prbkk
We'll know just how serious they are when there is action taken against those with unexplained wealth...or those who appoint their children to government paid jobs without any selection process ( often those who have themselves been appointed without s competitive process or any vetting).
