BANGKOK, 02 August 2017, (NNT) - According to the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), July inflation rate expanded 0.17% year-on-year.

Director of TPSO Pimchanok Wornkorporn indicated that inflation in the energy sector expanded 0.73% last month, due to the rise in retail fuel prices and global crude oil prices, which are expected to be in the range of 45-55 US dollars a barrel this year. The increasing prices of crude oil as well as the government’s policies to support household spending and reduce living expenses have contributed to the 0.6% increase in the inflation rate during the first seven months of this year.

The Director further pointed out that the ongoing flood in the northeast may have a slight impact on the inflation rate and public spending, adding that the office is following the situation closely.

Director Pimchanok estimated that the floating of LPG prices would increase prices of ready-to-eat food by no more than 0.05 baht per dish, thus price adjustment is not required.

She also predicted that the inflation rate during the latter half of the year will likely increase, in line with fuel prices and the FT rate, but maintained her office’s projection of the annual inflation rate at 0.7 - 1.7%.
