Is 'No Have! the most common phrase on LOS

I read a book written by a French explorer in the 19th century who travelled from Luang Prabang down to Si Phan Don on what is now Southern Laos and Eastern Isaan. He was looking for a passage through to what is now Vietnam.

In every village, he got the same three responses, bor mee, bor dai, bor hoo jak, in Thai mai mee, mai dai, mai roo (jak). So nothing has changed in 150 years.

If anyone can recall the name of that book, I would be grateful.

No hab? How about Never Mind, Up to you, Mai Pen Rai, and Two weeks.

When will you get more vegemite in stock?
"two weeks" Next day a huge stack of jars.

How long you work in bar? "two weeks". Actually more like two decades.
