Carry bikes on local buses

Featured Replies

I'm currently riding through Central Thailand, and was wondering if it is ok to catch a bus back to BKK and have my bike carried back as luggage? Any advice will be apprrciated.

I'm sure every bus company has its own rules but I've taken my bike on at least 30 buses in (mostly) northern Thailand over the years and I've never had them refuse to take it. It's usually a 50 or 100 baht fee depending on the distance. You should be prepared to take off both wheels and the pedals in case they say "Sorry. Full." That has happened to me several times but once I show I'm willing to work with them, they always rearrange their cargo to make room for my bike.

Thanks EJ, that is great news, I'll probably catch a bus from Loei, happy to help dismantling the bike if required :-)

They never said no to me but I always had to pay a little extra. Usually 50 or 100 Baht.
