BANGKOK: -- Several Bangkok roads saw traffic gridlock on Thursday morning following rains throughout the night and early today.

Jor Sor 100 traffic radio station reported that traffic had come to a complete standstill in many parts of the city while vehicles were crawling on some roads.

At 7.35am, inbound Sukhumvit from the Aree intersection to the Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection saw heavy traffic congestion while the mouth of Sukhumvit Soi 26 saw vehicles stranded for about 40 minutes, the radio station reported.

Traffic police advised motorists to avoid Sukhumvit Road as the section near Soi 101/1 was congested with vehicles. Long lines of vehicles were seen past the Bang Na intersection.

Heavy traffic was also reported on Rama IV Road with lines of vehicles stretching beyond Bangkok University.

Sukhumvit Soi 13 and Soi 15 were flooded for about 400 metres, with the water level in some parts as high as the sidewalk.

Traffic snarls were also reported at the Wisut Kasat intersection, Rama VIII Road, the Chor Por Ror intersection and the Prachakasem intersection.

Traffic on Lat Phrao Road was at a standstill at the Chokchai 4 intersection.

The inbound Ram-Indra Road from the Maiyalarp intersection was heavily contested.

The inbound Phetkasem Road before the Thai Phra intersection also saw long lines of vehicles, stretching past the Seacon Bang Kae Shopping Mall.

What is news about this ? always happens, same places. It is called poor management.  they do not regularly clear Klongs and with poor infrastructure development  ( possibly even corrupt) to have allowed much of recent Bangkok's development to have proceeded without appropriate investigation as to environmental issues, they get what they deserve.

EIAs  ?  forget about them.  With Section 44 even the General is ignoring them when it comes to new rail infrastructure development.  Bangkok is a mess and it is far too late to change that now.  They should be seriously planning moving the capital to somewhere else ( third time lucky perhaps) and allow the rising sea levels and subsiding ground to give nature its chance to remove it in 100 years time.
