It used to be said that if you want to know the way - ask a policeman.

But that was in the old days - now Thailand is rushing headlong into the future as everyone clambers to make the government's 4.0 modernization drive a reality.

In the latest development Daily News reported that the Thai Post Office have now come up with a radical new scheme - incredibly smart post boxes.

The yellow boxes - adorned with maps - are being trialed in Phitsanulok where there are seven downtown and eight others in outlying districts.

You can get a free charge for your phone as well as access important information such as local restaurants and tourist facilities.

QR codes complete the technological marvel that has a handy sticker that proclaims:

"Phii Too Roo Thuk Reuang" - this may be translated as "Mr Box (elder sibling) knows everything".

A cross section of the locals were pictured giving the boxes a welcome thumbs up.

As no one thought to point at it and to avoid any confusion, Thaivisa would like to point out that the post box is the tall yellow object with the black base.

Piglet and Winnie the Pooh. Where's Eeyore?

There are several characters in government who fit the Eeyore character perfectly.  I can't find a group photo.

Thai Post Office officials on the left promoting the service. It is usually Prayut Chan-o-cha who personally launches these Thailand 4.0 sort of things and claims the credit. Why do I have a deep feeling this is going to be a failure?

An elder sibling... like a Big Brother? A Big Brother who knows everything... hmmm.... a catchy phrase. Where have I heard something similar???
