BANGKOK: -- The deputy rector of Chulalongkorn University (CU) has resigned from the position after he was ordered to pay compensation for mishandling the saving fund of the university cooperative.

According to a statement released on the university’s website, the associate professor Dr Bancha Chalapirom, the deputy rector and former president of Chulalongkorn University Saving Cooperative has resigned after the Bangkok Cooperatives Promotion Office (BCPO) ruled that members of the 52nd and 53rd cooperative committees must pay compensation for damages caused to the cooperative.

The Dr Bancha was chairman of the 53rd cooperative committee. The deputy rector said he decided to resign so as to avoid affecting the reputation of the university.

A definite worry for many investing in University Savings Co-ops.....whatever and however safe they may be, or appear to be, there's always the risk of unscrupulous behaviour among the administrators.
