Renew Visa

Featured Replies

Hello. Just a quick question about tourist visas. My current work permit is about to expire when I finish my contract at my school. I wanted to stay in Thailand longer, so I was going to get a new tourist visa by flying to Malaysia. Can I just buy a round trip ticket to Malaysia and reenter the country on the tourist visa? And if so do I have to stay in Malaysia for a certain number of days or can I just fly there and turn around an hour later and fly back to Bangkok? Thank you so much for any advice!

You can stay an hour and return if you wish but you will not get a Tourist Visa.

You will get a 30 day Visa Exempt when you enter Thailand.

Thank you for reply.

So then I will have to re enter again in 30 days? That is OK. My main concern was staying in the country legally. And at the airport I just have to go out and come back in through immigration?

You can apply for a 30 day extension of the 30 day visa exempt entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht no need to leave the country again.

You can also get a proper tourist visa by going to a Thai embassy in Malaysia; a single entry tourist visa (SETV) would give you 60 days (extendable to 90). Depending on how much longer you want to stay in Thailand, that may be a better choice.
