Two drown after disabled man tries to rescue dog

SURIN: -- A disabled man jumped into a reservoir in Surin province in a bid to save his dog but drowned together with a village headman who tried to rescue him on Tuesday afternoon.

 

The double drowning incident happened at 2.30pm at a reservoir in Ban Kham Noi village in Tambon Khon Taek, Sangkha district.

 

The 20-metre wide reservoir was overflowing its weir following heavy downpour.

 

Police identified the victims as Chaiporn Indee, 44, who was disabled in the legs, and Praphasit Wiwasuk, the village head.

 

Police said Chaiporn was bathing on the bank of the reservoir when his dog slipped and fell into the waters. He jumped in to try to save his pet but he sank while the dog managed to swim back to the shore. The village headman, who saw the incident, jumped into the waters to save Chaiporn but he too drowned.

 

Scuba divers of the Surin Rescue Foundation found Chaiporn’s body in the evening while the body of Praphasit was found at 10.35pm.

Now that is a really sad story. I like to think that I would walk through fire for my dog, because we have a very special bond. To see someones love for their dog cost them their life is really tragic. The bravery shown by this disabled man and the village headman too is inspiring, but awful in the two lost lives. Especially since the dog managed to get out of the water on his own.

RIP to both of them. They deserved a better ending to this story.

Yes, all round sad and now fella has no parent. . . . Its a pity he didn't know his dog can swim. Most dogs can.

I think the headman is the brave one here, diving in to save the disabled chap. Dog owner was foolish thinking he could help his beloved dog when it could swim much better than he could.

 

Still sad though.

Judging by the amount of "full" disabled  parking bays in any Tesco's I'd say there are a huge number of disabled people in Thailand, or maybe I'm mistaken?

I understand people's love of animals but...
