Thailand's former PM Thaksin breaks silence on Twitter

And what a terrible crime that was - choosing a colourless dull person. Doesn't matter who he chooses - himself , flamboyant millionaire, Samak, right wing hero and populist cooking show host, Somchai, dull, uncharismatic, competent bureaucrat, Yingluck, sister, nice person, attractive woman  - they cannot be tolerated as they are all avatars of the evil one.

It was Thaksin himself who made it absolutely clear that Yingluck was his clone. Thaksin would be making the decisions. Avatars? Ciphers was and is the plan. Every step of the way.

Did I say that Thaksin was a moral exemplar? He is in my view a disgusting man whose only saving grace is that through his interest in himself he was able to do things that benefited the Thai people. Samak was an equally or more disgusting human being and I don't feel any sympathy for the man who was on radio egging on crowds to slaughter communists in 1976 and told barefaced lies that only one person had been killed in those events. Am I meant to cry about his fate? They are both colourful individuals and that is undeniable. BUt my question to you and others was about the colourless individual, Somchai. Just as a personal preference, I think it would be much better if dull, colorless, uncharismatic people get jobs in politics. And get elected. Charisma - Napoleon, Attila the Hun, Hitler

No. You don't get Mr Dull. You get Thaksin. Not even one iota of doubt allowed. Well maybe from a new to the scene occasional apologist trying to spin an alternative picture. Eventually they all retreat from the room clutching their Che T-shirts after failing to convince anybody very much.

We can discuss further when you have absorbed my initial recommendations. There may be an informal test before we move on to more challenging material. Can you send me a summary of your educational background so I can pitch your study at the right level.

Wait a moment, maybe you'll get the nasty abusive PM.

He ain't going anywhere, don't let your obsession with the man and his family cloud the facts.

Yes. Thaksin is trying to pull the strings. But trying and achieving are two different things. It never stops. However, there is always someone who wants to convince us that it ain't so. They go for one of two stories. Its either 1. Its Not About Thaksin or 2. Its not About Thaksin but anyway he is a good guy. No clouds and the sky is clear.

Well he is certainly not going to Thailand.

Yes. And so what? The people knew what they were voting for. How is this a bad thing?

Exactly. Those stupid peasants just keep voting for him - in whatever disguise he appears in

Thaksin has simply GOT to know that his audience of interested listeners shrinks by the month.   Stuff like this might stir up his ever-shrinking base, temporarily, but at the same time bores everyone else and causes them to tune out.  The "kangaroo-court" argument is threadbare and very very tired at this point.   And enlisting dead western philosophers in his cause is pathetic.   'Not sure what his long-term strategy for resurrection might be, but if this is it, he's just writing a how-not-to guide...

Apparently, Thaksin pays people to tout for him. You should get in touch with him. He would, I'm sure, welcome some strategic advice

So many people on this thread seem to be stating a clearly obvious fact as if it it's some sort of controversy. The people like Thaksin. This is evidenced by the fact that they keep voting for him or his "clones" or "nominees".  Perhaps the Democrat Party should try the same thing. Put up pictures of Abhisit working in rice fields and espousing populist policies. Oh, Ok, the Democrats did that but they just weren't very convincing. The military does it too. They will need to work harder. If they work hard enough, perhaps they will get enough votes

Against the law for a convicted criminal to run the government.

If it's against the law, why hasn't anyone been indicted?

It's also against the law to nominate people facing serious criminal charges as party list MPs. As to your question, given both laws were broken the EC stated there was a strong case to disband PTP, then stated that doing so would likely precipitate serious political violence. THAT is why.

Thaksin parties have a habit of breaking electoral law. Why do that if their support is so strong?

Are coups against the law?

Thaksin parties have a habit of winning elections.

Thaksin's opponents have a habit of using the corrupted courts to overturn the will of the people.

THAT is why.

Perhaps because he is unavailable to appear in person in court, to hear any charges read, also the reason for the lack-of-progress in a number of other cases against him ?

Such a pity they didn't get round to doing it, when he was in the country, back when his PPP were running things in 2008, I guess they were too busy with other things. :whistling:

You gotta get over Thaksin man, he's going to be a player for a fair while yet - you'll end up with a stomach ulcer.

There is no if about it.

That's a cheeky one. It is precisely because the Judges refused to take Thaksin's bribes (eg the lunchbox incident) that they are now called 'corrupted'? Fantastic.

The conviction and the sentencing of 6 months was for 'violating the dignity of the court' or in legal terms 'contempt of court'. Not for bribery which is normally involves prosecution and trial and carries a much serious and longer jail term if found guilty. Contempt in some cases can get off with a contempt citation by the court with an apology. Get your facts right.

Was the bribe even real?

Most likely not.

It is simply a case of one man's word against another's.

There is zero evidence that it occurred - no tape recording, no cash, no lunchbox....nothing. And this is after the accuser welcomed the alleged briber into his house after the alleged bribe took place.

ZERO EVIDENCE - yet somehow convicted by the courts, go figure.

If you believe the Thai courts are impartial and delivering blind justice you are in a tiny, tiny minority my friend.

Which law states it? You may argue that it is unethical but I don't know of a law about it.

Ah, yet another TV expert on majorities and minorities in Thailand, not to mention an absolute authority on Thai jurisprudence.  Funny how it's those with whom the "expert" disagrees that always seem to be in the "tiny, tiny minority".

As you say there friend pornprong, "most likely not"...

Looks like the Thaksin Whitewash brigade are out in full force this week.

Doesn't take an expert to know the electoral majority in Thailand.

One simply needs to check previous election results (e.g. Yingluck won 265 out of 500 seats or Thaksin won 375 out of 500 seats etc. etc.)

Or one could simply question why it is Junta constitutions always move away from democracy rather than towards it.

As for the thai judiciary... you seriously want to defend its impartiality and it's adherence to blind justice, if so, good luck to you (in the tiny, tiny minority)

Or in another words, the junta defense propaganda brigade out to spread false and fake news.
