Ex-Democrat MP Warong hits back at Thaksin’s Montesquieu’s quote

BANGKOK: -- Former Democrat MP Warong Dechgitvigrom hit back at former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, accusing the latter of using the same old trick to blame other people for the bad fate befalling members of his family.

On Wednesday, Thaksin posted a message in Twitter, quoting French philosopher Montesquieu. The quote reads: “There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice.”

Apparently, Thaksin’s twitter was in response to the trial of his sister, former prime minister Yingluck, by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions, over the rice pledging scheme.  The court was due to deliver its verdict on August 25, but Ms Yingluck didn’t show up, obviously escaping ahead of the verdict reading.

I wonder if Warong hear a loud whoooshing noise above his head when he read Thaksin's comment

"Democrat" wheeled out to defend the Junta

A very appropriate quote for the times, but it was used by the pot against the kettle.

Unbridled arrogance is a Thaksin trait. he never ever admits he has done something wrong.

He can't man up as they say.

Millions of baht hidden in his servants' names for year - a honest mistake Thaksin says.

2,500 dead in the drugs war, many innocent- no apology

Tak Bai - over 80 dead, no apology

rubber saplings fiasco- no apology

rrice price pledged at 15,000 baht. Massive losses to the country- no apology.

Only whine and whine.

Said the man who while a PM, was responsible for thousands of extra

judicial executions under the guise of fighting the drug trades...

what a giant hypocrite he is...

“We Thais should remain calm and should help protect the country from these people (Thaksin and the likes). We must stick to the law and the corrupt must be punished.  Our democracy must be based on the interests of the people,” said the former Democrat MP.

But who will protect the Thai people from a democratic party that forsakes the common Thai ?  Thaksin had enormous shortcomings, but the junta and democrats are not the people's choice and give the country little hope for the future.

Indeed. Given his choice of philosopher, the analogy of Thaksin to Robespierre comes to mind!

Thaksin has never thought it fair he can't bribe judges.

Yep. And he has the arrogance to appear on Korean TV and CNN and state that he's never ever done anything wrong. Self delusional narcissistic sociopath who seemingly now believes his own untruthful propaganda.

But some posters will say he's totally innocent and all the things against him are just semantics! Makes you wonder about their delusions.

1. Who protects the country from Army members?

2. Who corrupted the law? Why there is corruption within the Army?

3. Where is democracy?

I wonder if this man believes what he says or is looking for keeping his job and increase his income?

Look, it easily could have been a mistake. His lackey had 2 pastry boxes on the passenger seat, one containing some Danish pastries and the other containing millions of baht in used non sequential bank notes(as most people have in their car in case of emergencies). He picked up the wrong box and gave it to the court juniors, it could have happened to anybody.

Smart to stay on the junta good guy list and do the talking for the establishment. Time for the Democrat Party to change their party name.

They do seem to do the bidding of the elite and entitled.  They are almost as polarizing as the junta itself.  In many countries, parties unite to thwart military rule.  The Democrats seem all too happy to see men with guns take to the streets.  As god awful as the Shinawartas are, a large voting block seems to find the alternatives to be far worse.

Forgive this poor, foreign guest in Thailand. I read and my mind also goes international. The same arguments concerning political parties while not focusing on the timeless issue. A minority of the population (whether it be Thailand, Latin America or the U.S. and other European spawned countries) control the vast majority of wealth while the majority of the population tries to survive. Absolutely, there can exist wealth/income gaps. BUT they cannot grow so large (currently) that the majority of the population loses believing in the system. The wealthy majority cannot withstand the power of the overwhelming numbers of the population if a tipping point is reached.

Has it occurred to you that many of the majority enjoy their village/rice farming lifestyle despite its low productivity, and as long as they can use their numbers to force governments to subsidise their lack of income, there will be no change. They don't care if they elect criminals, as long as they will pander to them.

Much of the wealth disparity is from those clinging to a semi-subsistence lifestyle compared to those employed far more productively. The handouts given to them would be far better used advancing the nation.

In the PBS full story but not in the edited version above:

Dr Warong said, “There is no crueler tyranny than that which exploits the election, the majority rule for their vested interests in total disregard of public interests.”

He doesn't say how much blood stains the hands of Thaksin though... He was a murderous and corrupt dictator, nothing else.

Whichever party is elected at the next election should remember what Abraham Lincoln said:

"You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time."
