webfact
Hazing - still alive and kicking, literally Picture: Manager Manager reported that hazing - rituals where freshmen at universities are subjected to often violent and humiliating abuse by elders - is as rife as ever. Picture: Manager Following a video that showed new students getting a kicking for doing little more than breathing, Manager outlined what passes for the rules at one university. The establishment is Ratchaphat Suansanantha where the authorities have tried to clamp down in the past but are failing. Among some of the student rules for the arts group are: All men must be shaved as skinheads Women must have their hair tied back on face punching If women wear any jewelry or make-up they are forced to do physical exercises as punishment If newbies don't turn up at the Thai flag at 8am they are subjected to abuse Women are not allowed to go around alone Students outside the arts group must not have contact with other faculties Everyone must eat together Students are forced to share one boiled sweet - sometimes 30people swap it at a time. Students who fail to comply are ostracized, denied access to facilities and study materials and limited to what they can actually learn. The university is trying to crackdown without much success, reported Manager. A latest revealing video posted to Social Hunter, that featured violence such as repeated kicking, was taken down after much adverse comment online. overherebc
Childish, but serious in its consequences, behaviour by those who are mentally around the age of ten. If they are that advanced that is. Edited August 31, 2017 by overherebc

People with the mental age of 10 are far more advanced than these people

seajae
our daughter started uni a few weeks ago, if this happened to her there would be some very sorry people, this is childish in the extreme but does show the lack of mental capacity of some uni student and also the lack of balls of the ones running them. These people need to be arrested for what they are doing, it is assault
EyeOfRa
Quote The university is trying to crackdown without much success, reported Manager. Nonsense. As everyone is well aware, this very purposeful abuse has been going on for years, ignored by university administrations and teachers.

sandemara
Such stupid and unnecessary behaviour, victims likely to suffer a tarnished university life, something that should be treasured and built on for a lifetime. Did it arise from the US College hazing tradition?

Sandemara, it's impossible to respond to this question frankly here. Please type "siam subjugation rituals" into Google search. The second entry which comes up should be a very interesting article by Andrew MacGregor Marshall, published on Medium. Reading this article should provide you with the answer you seek. Just like the Polytech schools implicitly promote their gang violence.
EyeOfRa
Quote Implicitly promoted by the uni. Just like the Polytech schools implicitly promote their gang violence. Exactly. These rites embody the values of the culture, which are imparted deliberately and explicitly by the schools and universities. The purpose is not unlike that of the "crushing" of baby elephants by their mahouts. Edited September 1, 2017 by EyeOfRa
