Two Shot Near White House After Gunfire Erupts

At least two people were shot near the White House on Saturday evening, including a person believed to be a suspect, according to law enforcement officials.

The shooting prompted a brief lockdown at the White House as Secret Service agents responded to reports of gunfire near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

Four law enforcement officials said two people were injured in the incident, with one person reported to be in grave condition. Authorities believe one of the wounded individuals may be a suspect, although it remains unclear whether the second person was involved or was an innocent bystander.

The U.S. Secret Service said it was aware of reports of shots fired in the area and was “working to corroborate the information with personnel on the ground.”

Reporters gathered on the White House North Lawn said they heard between 20 and 30 gunshots shortly after 6 p.m. Secret Service agents then instructed journalists to move quickly inside the press briefing room while armed officers secured the area.

The White House lockdown was lifted at about 6:46 p.m.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the FBI was assisting the Secret Service at the scene.

President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the shooting. Vice President JD Vance had earlier been confirmed at the White House, although it was not immediately clear whether he was still there when the incident occurred.

The U.S. Capitol Police did not immediately comment on the situation.

Why would she be in the White House. Even is this was against Trump, and this isn't clear yet, the shooter will more than likely be a deranged leftist.

This is yet to be clearly reported. Happened at Gate 17 on the western side. Being reported the suspect used a handgun getting off 2-3 (?) shots before being taken down by the Secret Service. More details will emerge and I would expect fairly rapidly.

Possibly an innocent "feu de joie" by some pardoned January 6th participants, shooting in the air to celebrate their soon to arrive compensation cheques?

Many moons ago, I took a business trip to DC and decided to drive my rental to gawk at the White House after work. I took the main drive that went to the front of the building. I then took a left hand turn, and not two blocks away I prayed to the powers that be my car didn't break down. The WORST looking ghetto I'd ever seen. I can't imagine things have gotten any better since.

It certainly does seem that there are a lot of people out there that would like to take this man out. I wonder in history if there have ever been this many assassination attempts on a president in this short of period of time? My guess is that there's never been another president who has been so vehemently hated as Donald Trump. And hated for good reasons.
