Trump Calls Off Planned Iran Attack After Gulf Request

US President Donald Trump says he has postponed a planned military strike on Iran after leaders from several Gulf nations urged restraint, as negotiations aimed at ending the conflict continue.

Get today's headlines by email image.png

In a message posted on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the United States had intended to launch a new attack on Tuesday but decided to pause the operation following requests from the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

He wrote that the governments involved had indicated that “serious negotiations are now taking place” and suggested that talks could lead to an agreement acceptable to Washington.

Trump added that he had been told a deal would be reached that the United States would consider “very acceptable,” while reiterating a central US demand that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons.

Warning of possible military action

Despite the pause, Trump said the US military remained ready to act if negotiations fail. He warned that American forces could move ahead with a “full, large scale assault” on Iran at very short notice if an acceptable settlement is not achieved.

Officials in Tehran have not publicly responded to Trump’s latest remarks.

Over the weekend, Trump had issued a warning to Iran’s leadership, saying that “the clock is ticking” as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict showed little progress.

Conflict and fragile ceasefire

The current confrontation escalated on 28 February when Israeli and US forces launched extensive air strikes on Iranian targets. In response, Tehran fired drones and missiles toward Israel and US positions across the Gulf region.

The attacks marked a significant widening of tensions involving Israel and Iran, drawing the United States more directly into the conflict.

A ceasefire agreement reached in April was intended to create space for negotiations. Although the truce has largely held, there have been occasional exchanges of fire since it came into effect.

Diplomatic efforts involving regional governments have been ongoing, with Gulf states seeking to prevent a broader war that could destabilise energy supplies and regional security.

Oil route tensions

Amid the standoff, Iran has maintained control over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping corridor connecting the Gulf to global markets.

The waterway carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Iranian authorities say their control of the strait is a response to US and Israeli military actions.

The situation has disrupted global energy markets, with oil prices rising sharply as concerns grow over supply interruptions.

At the same time, the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports as part of efforts to increase pressure on Tehran to accept Washington’s negotiating terms.

With diplomatic talks reportedly underway, it remains unclear whether the pause in military action will lead to a lasting agreement or only a temporary delay in further hostilities.

Serious difference in the war mood of both countries. In Iran, the citizens are rallying behind the regime to protect their country's sovereignty. Just about everyone young and old are actively participating in nationwide weapons training and mobilization drills. In USA, majority is against the war and massive anti-war demonstrations across the country. Trump is walking into a disaster of epic outcome if he continue to be dogwalked by war monger Netanyahu.

Personally I have my doubts…..there may have never been a planned attack it could be a bluff or just a convenient thing for him to say.certainly no lucid human being would take trump at his word.kinda sucks to have a president that no one trusts …….and he earned that reputation.just pathetic

Iran has Trump by the short and curlies. Trump needs to settle and exclude the nuclear condition. If Iran starts to develop a nuclear weapon, the then US President can then start bombing again. Trump has lost, Iran has shown that the greatest military in the world is not that great and how to humble it. After the agreement, America can pay restitution to the rest of the world for the economic cost forced on it by a clearly senile out of his depth President!

Well, the fans at the World Cup should be quite peaceful. Current reports of the boycott, and ridiculous prices, suggest there won't be enough fans for a spare team!

Iran has rejected Donald Trump’s demand that it end its nuclear programme in its latest peace proposal, in a signal that both sides remain far apart.

Tehran’s deputy ‌foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that Iran’s revised proposal emphasised the country’s “right to enrich and enjoy peaceful nuclear rights” and called for an end to the US blockade.

Iran has figured out that Trump’s bluster and swirl of social media threats doesn’t matter much so long as they control the Strait of Hormuz, Andrew Feinberg writes.

Tehran rejects Trump nuclear demand in latest peace proposal: Live

So Trump dare not take military action in case Iran responds by destroying the Gulf States' oil infrastructure and even desalination plants.

So the only way to end the war is through diplomacy .

As the US have no diplomats currently employed for talks, only Trump's son-in-law and a real estate salesman, plus the maniacal Trump himself, it's clear diplomacy will go nowhere.

Time to clear the decks. Impeach Trump, sack his woeful ministers and install some seasoned diplomats in officde.

Impeach now!

One of the biggest liabilities that Trump had leading up to this war was the decision to use two absolute imbeciles in the form of Witkoff and Kushner. They are both rabid Zionists, they both deliberately lied to Iran during the negotiations in order to fool them into thinking that the US was sincere, and look at the outcome that we have.

The thing that a very tiny mind like Trump doesn't get is that Iran will not negotiate with the US at this point. Many reports are coming out that Witkoff is begging the Iranian foreign minister for meetings and his calls are not being returned.

The US has backed themselves into a corner and the economic devastation has been way beyond what they anticipated, and the price they're going to pay for this in the midterms is going to be brutal. Unchecked inflation, rising unemployment, the closing of hundreds of thousands of small businesses, no return of manufacturing to the US, a shortage of labor due to extreme and short sighted immigration policy, and the abandonment of any hope that Trump would improve the quality of life for Americans, but instead we get sabotage of those hopes for the entire planet.

Don's demise will be a good thing, as Trump will lose his power and he will just become a whiny gutter trash punk, will have to deal with being doubly impotent, and hopefully he will eventually disappear into oblivion. Morbid sickness is quite likely, considering his rapid decline, and his three or four cheeseburger a day diet.

See ya Don. You will not be missed, the world will celebrate your demise with such glee, millions will take to the streets and welcome the return of civility, decency, honor, grace and hope.

Qatar has warned against a further escalation in the Iran conflict.

The countries in the region “do not want to be dragged into another war”, said Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari at his weekly press briefing on Tuesday.

The comments came amid recent reports that the United States and Israel could soon launch further attacks against Tehran, after more than a month of stalled negotiations to end the war.

Qatar, alongside other countries, supports Pakistan’s mediation efforts and the existing ceasefire, and is committed to diplomatic solutions. In the event of further escalation, civilians would suffer the most, al-Ansari said.

The billionaire/millionaire tax avoiders: Rio Ferdinand, Oakshott, Tice et al who until 3 months ago were extolling the virtues of living as immigrants under Sharia law in Dubai have been very quiet lately. Wonder why?

Surely the mad mullahs haven’t stopped them reporting Trump’s humiliation!
