Have you ever/never been to a bar in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

Have you ever been to a bar in Thailand?

What is it really like?

I want to know.

I have walked past many bars in Thailand, and, once in a while, I have been beckoned in.

I never let down my guard, though; and I never went in.

So, really, is the experience all that great?

Have I been missing out?

What is it really like, to enter a Thailand bar, have a few drinks, and sit down with a few girls that one had never met, and spend money on strangers, probably strangers that one might hire, ordinarily, to wash one’s clothes, or clean one’s house.

What is the lure?

Just asking, because I have no idea.

I do not live in a bar area.

If I really wanted to go to a bar in Thailand, then I would probably need to rent a room, temporarily, near a bar, where I could sleep off the bar experience.  Or, is this not necessary?

How much money would I waste in the bar, in Thailand, if I were to go?

So much that I do not know.

Having not ever been to a bar, what have I missed, of worth?

Just asking.

Regards,

Gamma

Note: Anyone here, besides me, who has never visited a Thailand bar?

Have you regretted your non-experience, so far?

Oh my giddy aunt!

Talk about laboured!

Given your extensive posting on all things living as an expat in Asia, and the length of time you would have us believe you have lived here, do you really expect us to believe you?

Or are you one of those chaps who is constantly walking up and down the road, just happening to glance inside, always on the way to somewhere else?

Have you ever been to a bar anywhere?

Why rent a room? Just take a Grab, go there, and take a Grab back to your apartment, so you can see for yourself what it's like. Most adult males have been to bars, and you'll get a hundred different opinions and experiences, so it's like eating a hamburger. Your tastes are different then others. I'm not a bar person, even though I've been to hundreds in the past, mostly for finding women and listening to live music, and have here with foreign friends a few times, just to get together and play a little pool.

NO, I do NOT expect you to believe me.

Still, I was first here (Thailand) in 1971.

Does 1971 seem "long ago" to you?

If not, then take a look at this:

In 1971, even BOOM-boxes were nonexistent......

BUT....here is a BOOM-BOX from 1971, maybe......if one needed to pick one.....

Gracious me, do they have women in these bars? So that is what the attraction is all about!

Well I never!

Do you have any evidence for this?

I think you are mistaken.

I have not been, so far.

I know plenty here, the majority, who have never been.

Please provide supporting evidence for your eroneous statement.

Why did I not expect this obvious response from you?

You have listened to 50,000 music CDs, for example, and have thousands more you are now enjoying.

And so, likewise, you must have visited hundreds of bars, too, though you have not spilled your beans about which are the best.

How many thousands of girls in the bars still remember you?

Can we reach out to them?

I went into one once by accident......thought it was a cafe......never again.

Were you surprised when the waitress put her hand on your thigh and asked if you wanted cream in your coffee?

Must have been a shocking experience!

I could name some of the bars, but seeing you left the US decades ago, at 19, you wouldn't know any of them, especially seeing they were in Texas, New Jersey, new York, and Florida. The last time was in Texas, last year, and every year while I lived in Texas 32, and from age 17-30 in the Northeast US. I like live music, which was a main reason I went after I was married. What has listening to cd's or wondering if the women remember me have to do with this?

Been to bars. But not Lady Drink bars.

There's a bar downtown that serves Guinness.

Since you can't buy imported Guinness in stores here, if I want to drink Guinness I go to the "Irish" bar here. The stew is okay, but not as good as the stew in Tempe, Arizona "Irish" bar.

I suspect that the secret is you use a little draft Guinness in the stew for flavor and it's too expensive here in Thailand so they omit that key flavor ingredient.

But no, I don't waste money in bars because I am not young & stupid.

It depends on what time of day you go. I frequently eat lunch in bars, but haven't had alcohol in a bar for nearly twenty years. Early in the day, bars are generally quiet and even somewhat peaceful. Most have TV's playing sports of some type, and they generally decline when I ask them to change to the Nature Channel. At night many bars can get crowded, loud and possibly rowdy. Not my scene.

Nah, as don't waste money on strangers, and only spend it on me & mine. Never had to pay for companionship, as way too many like minded people in the world that enjoy sex as much as myself. Nothing would be challenging or exciting about transactional (short time) sex.

I still haven't fully recovered.

I don't think you can get a STD from a tractor seat wearing your bathing suit. 😀

OK, then please do so.

I would love to know the names of at least 100 bars you frquented in Texas.

This info might also be useful to others, just so they know which bars, in Texas, they should avoid.

Avoiding bars is better than consuming vitamins, for longevity.

Everybody knows this.

Just ask Chomsky, now 97 years old.

More people, especially those in Pattaya, should follow your good example.

But, just what were you lunching on, might we ask, in the bars there?

You have the internet, you search. I've already been to them. And they weren't all in Texas, so read without skimming.

OK.

Then, please just name your TOP 10 bars in Texas.

Surely you can do this, at the very least.

A variety of salads, spaghettis, soups, sandwiches, Thai food...generally anything that's not deep fried, except maybe Buffalo wings now and then.

Don't think I have ever been in a Bar, thailand or any where else in the world.
