Trump Gives 'Last Chance’ to Sign Deal Before ‘Decapitation’

President Donald Trump said in the Oval Office that Iran has a “last chance” to reach an agreement with the United States, adding that he wants to allow negotiations time even after threatening military action.

Trump made the remarks during an event to sign an agreement, speaking about how many times he had paused or called off strikes after issuing threats. He said he did not know the number but argued that he wanted to give “every last chance” before what he described as “decapitation”.

The president said the first phase of a potential deal would involve the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz. He said the second phase, currently under discussion, would focus on Iran’s denuclearisation, but he added that it would come later and would take time.

He also suggested Iran’s position had been influenced by the threat of planned attacks reported for Sunday night. Trump said those strikes would have been “harder” than any attack since World War II.

Oval Office Remarks

Trump framed his comments as an opportunity for Iran to move toward a negotiated settlement, while also signalling that further escalation remained an option if talks failed.

His response to questions about whether he had repeatedly cancelled strikes followed his broader message that the United States was trying to reach an outcome while still leaving room for diplomacy.

Deal Phases and Strait of Hormuz

Trump described the proposed agreement as having two stages. In the first phase, he said the Strait of Hormuz would open immediately.

In the second phase, he said negotiators are focused on Iran’s denuclearisation. Trump did not set a specific timeline for that stage, but said it would take “a little while” before it could be completed.

Trump Accuses Iran of Duplicitous Statements

After his Oval Office remarks, Trump turned to social media, writing that Iranian leadership is being “unbelievably duplicitous” in how it speaks about negotiations with the United States.

In the post, he alleged that Iranian leaders “beg” for meetings, while publicly later stating they will not hold discussions. Trump said that, whether Iran acknowledges it or not, the two sides are talking about a solution to a problem he said Iran created “for decades”.

The comments followed Trump’s earlier claim that another round of negotiations would begin on Monday, despite Iran’s response.

Iran Says Talks With Oman Limited

Iranian officials said on Sunday and Monday that no negotiations with the United States were under way. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, reiterated on Monday that talks involving Oman are focused only on the Strait of Hormuz.

Baqaei said that matters related to Iran and the United States should be reviewed in later stages to determine how the situation develops. Trump, in his social media message, said he was frustrated by Iran’s insistence that it is only dealing with Oman, and repeated his accusation that Iran is not speaking consistently about discussions.

Note that there was no such thing as "war crimes" during WW2 with the exception of the 1929 Geneva Convention that only covered treatment of POWs.

Formalized "crimes against humanity" and "genocide" concepts didn't exist.

It appears they still don't exist under Israeli and Trump regimes.

One thing the free world might agree with is rolling back the theocracy and reintroducing democracy to Iran. But then, the country would be run by people who might want to control their own oil. Their people's dream of self control would then be totally against the wishes of America, which wants to control Iran's resources.

Time is thr key though isn't it?

Time to source and move fuel oil for the US navy ships (apart from the aircraft carriers and submarines they run on diesel which has to be brought in on tankers.

Time to bring in the aviation fuel for the aircraft based in the Gulf States.

Time to replenish the stocks of munitions for those aircraft, and the anti aircraft defences.

Time to persuade the gulf allies that the US can protect them, and if and when they allow them (the US) to mount further attacks from their bases.

The trouble is, Mr Trump has not really got a lot of time. This really has to be done and dusted well before November's elections.

The Iranians. Well they have got time - they have been under varying degrees of threat since, well, 1978?

Not really looking good is it?

Carriers and subs have been nuclear powered for quite a few years.

IMO Iran is doing with Trump what it did with Carter, there are some parallels. Strategic delay, and conforming with the US electoral calendar.

Inflation is irrelevant to a totalitarian regime. It has a lot of significance in America.

It suits Iran to let Trump twist in the wind of public opinion. They will reach a deal with whoever replaces Trump.

some of his billion $ buddies decided they needed to buy a new yatch or two so told donnie they would give him a few million of crypto if he would announce peace at hand to manipulate markets before he announces iran will be destroyed and while he is at it he may decide to bomb canada and china....it's really really good to be mega rich and pull the puppets strings. And no doubt much of his poor maga cult will be sitting home eat pork and beans from a food pantry waiting for the next issue of chinese bibles to snatch up.

Iran is bypassing Trump and negotiating directly with Oman to secure a commercial shipping route. They will soon negotiate with the other GCC countries and even EU to find common grounds. Iran rejecting direct talks with USA as they don't trust Trump. No countries will ever trust Trump's USA.

Iran isn't "bypassing" anyone in a way that matters.

They're talking to Oman about coordinates for a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz — inbound traffic more through Iranian waters, outbound involving Omani ones — and those talks are in the final stages. That's real. What isn't real is the fantasy that this somehow renders the United States irrelevant or proves "no countries will ever trust Trump's USA".

Iran itself keeps saying the Oman deal does not reopen the strait.

Full reopening is explicitly conditioned on the U.S. lifting the naval blockade, ending sanctions, releasing frozen assets, paying compensation for war damage, stopping threats, and more. Iranian officials (Araqchi, Zolqadr, Baghaei) have repeated this for days. Messages are still being exchanged with Washington through intermediaries; Tehran just refuses direct talks while claiming the U.S. breached the June MoU.

That's not bold independence. That's a country that shut the world's most important oil chokepoint and now needs the other side to blink on the conditions that actually matter.

The idea that Iran will casually roll this out to the rest of the GCC and the EU as some post-American order is cope. GCC states live next to the same waterway and have their own oil exports and security concerns. Europe needs the energy flows. None of them are lining up to underwrite Iranian control of Hormuz while Tehran holds the strait closed as leverage. The actual leverage still runs through Washington because the U.S. is the one enforcing the blockade and sanctions that Iran wants lifted.

"No countries will ever trust Trump's USA" is pure cope. Countries deal with the United States under whatever administration is in power because the alternative is worse for their own interests. Iran talking to Oman about lane coordinates while demanding a long list of American concessions is not proof of American isolation. It's proof that even after months of conflict, Tehran still has to negotiate the terms of reopening the waterway it closed.

Nonsense. Iran has never upheld anything they agreed to except allowing aircraft carrying pallets of cash sent my Hussein Obama.

Outside of their 12 mile territorial waters Iran nor Oman have no jurisdiction over the straits.
