Trump: No One Will Build Monuments For Him 'Once I'm Gone'

President Donald Trump said he does not expect anyone to continue building monuments to him after he leaves office, confirming in a recent interview that he is behind a number of high-profile construction plans in Washington, DC.

Asked by New York Magazine about projects described as monuments, including a “triumphal arch”, Trump said the idea was straightforward: he is building them for himself and believes successors will not maintain the effort.

“That’s true,” Trump said. “Nobody will do it once I’m gone. When I leave here, nobody will.”

White House Projects Draw Internal Warnings

Trump’s second-term focus has been heavily centred on construction at the White House, including a new ballroom and other related work. Some congressional Republicans and advisers have expressed concern that the attention on the ballroom could make it harder for the party to stay on message for the midterm elections, and could undermine election prospects, New York Magazine reported.

Trump, however, portrayed the work differently when speaking to the magazine.

“The people should be thankful,” he said, adding that he had considered opposition to doing the interview but said he was “proud of the work” he was carrying out.

Security Claims Used To Justify The Ballroom

Trump has argued that the White House ballroom is needed for national security, pointing to proposed changes intended to strengthen protection. In his account to the magazine, the plan includes a drone port on the roof, an underground bunker and bulletproof windows.

The administration is also preparing a separate, larger construction project. According to the report, ground is expected to be broken on a 250-foot arch near Arlington National Cemetery within the next two weeks.

While Trump did not dispute that the projects were personal in nature, the administration and Trump have repeatedly linked the work to security needs, including the upgrades described for the White House.

Legacy And What Will Remain

In an earlier report from CNN, sources described Trump’s motivation as being closely tied to his legacy. They said the president’s priorities ultimately rest on what he believes will endure beyond his term.

One source close to Trump told CNN in May that the key point was that Trump’s buildings would not be torn down. The source said that even if successors reversed policies, the ballroom would likely remain, while highlighting the East Wing as a lasting physical mark associated with Trump.

“The one thing they can’t tear down will be the East Wing. That is his lasting impact. That’s why he cares so deeply,” the source said, according to CNN, using the phrase “legacy sh*t”.

Trump’s latest comments reinforced that view of durability, while also indicating that he expects no further monument-building once he has left the White House.

My post had nothing to do with other politicians, it was about the fully documented, massive liar that is Trump. If you want to dispute my opinion, try to present a more sensible argument about anyone you believe would outdo Trump's lies. The previous President never said anywhere enough of anything to match Trumps portfolio in the category.

I don't recall previously telling you my opinion of Biden, about whom you seem to be referencing, but here is what I think of him as a candidate and President.

I don't believe he was ever Presidential material: time and circumstances thrust him to the head of a fairly ordinary group likely to oust the madman and his mindless sect. Biden had been a representative for a long time, was considered a centralist in the party and was respected and liked by many including the fence sitters on the other side. He was considered to be an acceptable alternative.

It worked. Trump was easily beaten. His refusal to accept the outcome and the continuing insults and hatred, parroted by the acylates, is driven by the shame of being beaten by someone he considers inferior.

Biden's Presidency started in the recovery period from Covid. The economy and millions of households had been affected by the pandemic and the botched actions of the previous administration. Unsurprisingly, the economy was a basket case, and he faced the enormous task of returning the country to normality. His major bills were about infrastructure and financial rescue of the millions in need. His Student Loan bill was strongly opposed by the opposition and killed off. (my personal opinion is that the rich cadre don't want the poor to be educated) At the end of his term, jobs, GDP and more were healthy, but inflation was still high.

Overall, Biden's administration did a reasonable job in a difficult era. I attribute most of that to his competent cabinet and advisors. His term in the top job under extreme pressures and toxic opposition, was IMO adequate, but not spectacular. I was appalled when it seemed he was going to seek a second term, and happy when it became obvious he couldn't. I thought the Dems then made a major mistake by putting up a diverse candidate at very much the wrong time in history.

The previous President never said anywhere enough of anything to match Trumps portfolio in the category because he was being propped up by the Democrat party who were lieing to the people about his mental state while using the auto pen....i would suggest you clean up your own backyard before throwing reprehensible aspersions on the president of the United States who will go down in history as one of the best presidents that America has ever had

So, you agree with me that Biden's portfolio of words could not match Trump in the liar, liar stakes!

Virtually everyone from AI, down to the most basic pollster, agree that Trump is the worst President of all time! Even Fox has trouble inflating his numbers these days.

I do agree with your thoughts about Biden, the Dems did recognise he was too old and his mind had become flawed, so they withdrew him from the race. Any reasonable, sane person can see Trump is no longer capable and is actually dangerous in the job (starting wars, threatening erstwhile friends), but the republicans are doing a Bernie (or a Mitch) and propping him up as he sleeps in office.

Your hero worship of your icon and continued insults to any who disagree with you in anyway does provide an interesting glimpse into the psychology of the disciple. Tell me, would your idolization continue if good old J D Vance ascends the throne?

I'm unsure which backyard you suggest I clean, nor if you are talking literally, or, in your fevered mind, it's a way to tell me where I should go. One of the reasons I left my home country in 2010 was I foresaw the emergence to power of religious, conservative, fascist, billionaire boot lickers. Sound familiar. My figurative backyard, like America, is beyond any chance of redemption. Rather than adore, I loathe all politicians but use my mind to understand which of the breed will do less harm to me.

As much as I would like to live out my life without thinking about US politics it's still has an enormous effect on my world and my personal safety. My finances jump around every time Trump's mob manipulate the stock market.

I hope to still be around when the empire inevitably collapses and India or China fill the gap. The dollar will go soon.

Stock trades by President while in office

Bill Clinton: 0 (8 years)

George W Bush: 0 (8 years)

Barack Obama: 0 (8 years)

Donald Trump: 54 (4 years)

Joe Biden: 0 (4 years)

Donald Trump: 3,624 (16 months)

This is the most corrupt administration to ever hold power anywhere in the history of the world.

Guys, just clarifying the terms…

Fascism - rule by authoritarianism.

Oligarchy - rule by the wealthy for the wealthy.

Kleptocracy - rule by people who steal the wealth.

Kakistocracy - rule by the least qualified.

Theocracy - rule by religion.

Technocracy - rule by and for tech.

Anyway, congrats, USA.

The thing with polls though is.... the only one that counts is the one on polling day...... all the others are just mere speculation and innuendo that can be influenced depending on the demographic that you're interviewing and which ever way the political nasty of the day is blowing.

This POTUS's terms should be called The Epstein Ballroom administration. No, not suggesting a name for the East Wing, that is what his time in office should be called. You know, like those composite names the media comes up with, such as Bennifer. Pennsylvania Avenue (where the WH is) should be renamed Epstein Boulevard, in remembrance.

If the Dems win the WH in 2028 it would be a good bet that Ghislene will not be breathing on January 20, 2029. IMO all these niceties she is being supplied with is sort of a prolonged one last meal for the condemned criminal.

As far as what will become of all these monuments to himself, look at what has become of Jimmy Saville's grave since the nasty stuff came to light.

Republicans probably retain a slight edge in the Senate, but that assessment has gotten harder to defend over the course of the summer.

One can make an argument that the only level of (promised) transparency that he's displayed during this entire second administration fiasco is when it comes to corruption. He is the transparently corrupt president.

The only monument that seems appropriate for Trump would be some sort of outhouse structure. A place to throw down turds dedicated to one of the world's biggest turds.

Michael Caruso—a former GOP lawmaker in Florida who championed the death penalty for pedophiles.

Caruso was just arrested on 5 felony counts of kidnapping, child molestation, lewd exhibition, luring or enticing a child, & child abuse causing mental injury—AGAINST HIS OWN GRANDSON.

Not an immigrant. Not a Black or brown person. Not a drag queen. Not trans. A 67-year-old white male MAGA Republican married father of seven & appointed by Ron DeSantis.

It's always the championing ones, isn't it? Like that Tea Party lady with 20+ adopted kids, who's husband ran a clinic to cure homosexuality -- she had to suddenly get out of politics.

He doesn't even try to hide it anymore.

A bad sign, for him: John Roberts voted against his ballroom a few weeks ago, but it was a candyass vote that didn't affect anything, strictly for the record. He commented that the whole ballroom escapade may turn out to be illegal. The Chief Justice can see the sheisse-sturm(tm) coming. Maybe Alito and Clarence took turns caning him.

Your argument that Trump is the greatest doesn't include a list of any social, financial, diplomatic nor infrastructure achievements. Nothing for the betterment of real, working-class Americans. Instead, you're only bleating about the fact that his moral misdeeds are not as bad as a President from the last century!

No doubt his greatest deeds in your eyes is the racist mass removal of the manual labour force and the idiotic tariffs that increase the cost for Americans of all imported goods. They are imposed on every country, excluding Russia. Why is that, anyway.

In skippy country, Wombats are known as slow, fat, hairy creatures that live in a dark hole, are too stupid to get out of the way of cars on highways, and who eats roots and leaves.
