This wouldn't be just paranoia on his part. There are similar examples in many countries.

Maybe this guy has seen Kiryas Joel near NYC and it freaked him out.

The dude obviously had psychological issues, and a dislike for foreigners, he was sacked from his rangers job, due to his attitude to a foreigner, for saying hello in Chinese, now he is trying to boost his ego by, again, attacking foreigners, sadly, with Thailand's increasing xenophobic attitude, he will get what he wants...he has also done a very un-Thai thing, turned on his family.

Maybe. Regarding the above though, the Chinese have been slowly but surely doing similar. The area around Ratchada Pisek and Rama 9 is full of Chinese-condos, restaurants and other businesses. RCA, the famous Bangkok nightclub soi is near there - and it is almost 95% Chinese (I mean all Chinese signs on shops from top to bottom of the soi). I guess that area became a favorite because it's the same area where the Chinese Embassy in located (on Ratchada). Not sure if there's a cultural center, but in other major cities around the world the CCP set up their own police stations. Many were closed by local authorities after these were revealed. Not sure about Bangkok.

Well, then he needs to take aim at the Chinese, doesn't he? But he's not. It's the Chinese who are cutting corners, contaminating soil and water with their building projects, and who making buildings that collapse during a minor earthquake. Drunken brawling British and Aussies get the headlines, but the people undermining Thailand and quietly taking control of it in the background are from the PRC.

Ditto - I have had a gutful and we are leaving Thailand - like many other have done and are doing. Things came to a head for me when they locked away my money for 7 months in the bank account - in any 1st world country that would be illegal and swiftly taken apart. I was reminded of all those Expats that had their money stolen by a bank's branch manager and they got nothing back - the bank denied liability and the court confirmed they did not have to pay back, and ruled the Expats had to sue the manager to get their money back. I looked away back then, like we all do when so many things like that happen to Expats. But that was when I stopped looking away - and what I saw (and remembered) told me to get the **** out of this country.

And even while I am preparing and packing to leave, they screwed me over yet again. My bank account was suddenly blocked from transactions (no SMS service - just gone). So we spent a large chunk of yesterday getting it back open - thank goodnes for a Thai wife (as always here). We visited the bank and DTAC/True twice each and found out (as always, the hard way) that the DTAC records had not been transferred to True, and my True mobile number was not 'verified' and that was why the bank locked the account. So I had to register everything with True (Passport, Photo, signing multiple documents, etc.) and then get them to issue me a 'certificate' to confirm I was a legal owner of the phone number. And then go and do the same thing all over again with the bank and re-register the mobile (and even more documents to sign). effin ridiculous - as always.

I have today transferred most if the money in my bank accounts over to the wife's bank accounts. When we are overseas and this happens, I would not be able to pay our bills on-line or top up phone etc. We will be visiting 1-2 times a year - but I aint ever living here again - the Govt clearly hates Expats and I have had enough. We left Thailand just before the Covid shut-downs started and back then the Wife did not want to go - but this time around she wants to leave too.

Anyone with a DTAC phone number should check they are registered with True - just in case. Apparently you have until 30 September to register or the phone number might be terminated. They said that the Govt is cracking down on foreign scammers with multiple phones - I was going to ask 'what about Thai scammers' but thought better of it.

Seems Sai Samut has joined Sondhi today at the 'anti-Israel' rally. He gave interviews in support of the rally. There is a good Op-Ed in a Thai publication today that casts doubt on Sondhi's true motives in the Israel embassy rally. I think there is quite a bit of truth to it - I don't trust anything that Sondhi says. He's an ultra right-wing Thai nationalist that (I believe) wants an ultra-authoritarian military government running Thailand forever - and this is the beginning of a new campaign aimed at 'evil' foreigners. Israel today, America tomorrow, Russia after that, etc.

I thought that a very odd thing to say. What threats. I can't think of any Government threats on Thailand. Tourist threats? The guy sounds like a posh nutter to me.
