I had a motorbike accident 6 and a half weeks ago where I landed on my shoulder. Went to a private hospital and there was only a general doctor available, who was completely useless. He just asked me to move my arm in certain positions then asked me if I wanted a shoulder xray, which I said yes. Nothing was broken, is what he said. I asked if it could be a rotator cuff tear, and he said only a MRI can confirm if this is the case.

Fast forward 6 and a half weeks later, I am still getting some elbow pain when I lean on it, like using it to get out of bed, making me wonder if I did have a hairline fracture in my elbow. I went to the same hospital asking if I can just get an xray only and they said I can't, must see a doctor first and then the doctor orders an xray. They said all hospitals are the same. Is this true? Are there anywhere else where you can get an xray in Pattaya without seeing a doctor? This is just a money grab by the hospital to see the doctor again, for no real reason, and when the doctor I saw was pretty useless in the 1st case. I just want an xray and the radiologist's report only.

Probably even if you go to the most expensive private hospital they will want you to see a 'doctor' before getting x-rayed as they are the ones with authority to use hospital resources not the woman mopping the floor.

Aslo as a foreigner you will always have to pay the fees but if you go to a public hospital they will be modest fees in comparison but take a lot of time waiting around for the confusing process to take it's course.

If what you are suspecting is a hairline fracture it is important not just to get an Xray but to have it read by a skilled ortho. As these can easily be missed. I would not trust the report from a clinic that just does Xrays. Xrays do not read themselves, they have to be read by a skilled clinician in the context of the patient's history and symptoms.

I advise against trying to get this done without also an ortho consult (which you in any case need, regardless of whether there is a fracture).

If cost of doing this at a private hospital is an issue, go to Bang Lamung govt hospital.

Use a government hospital!

X-ray and consultation costs around 250bht.

How long did you have to wait for the whole process and is it easy enough for a foreigner to get through it all without going in with a Thai person?

Which government hospital do you recommend? Is Pattaya City Hospital any good?

Has anyone recently used Dr. Rudjasorn Pumpan Clinic, on 3rd Rd just after the Shell? I saw someone recommend them on Pattaya Expats Facebook group from a couple of years ago as being very good, but apparently it seems they've stopped accepting non-Thai patients. Anyone know if this true?
