Trump’s video depicting Obamas as apes sparks outrage

Trump Faces Backlash Over Racist Video Post

US President Donald Trump has stirred controversy by sharing a social media video containing a racist clip of Barack and Michelle Obama. The footage portrayed them as apes and was featured at the end of a video discussing alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election.

This action prompted Republican Senator Tim Scott, who is black, to urge Trump's removal of the post, deeming it "the most racist thing I've seen out of this White House." Initially, the White House defended the video as an internet meme and dismissed criticism as "fake outrage." However, growing pressure from Republican senators led to the clip’s removal from Trump's Truth Social account. A White House representative claimed a staffer had "erroneously" posted it.

The clip also depicted other Democrats as animals, including Joe Biden as an ape. The Obamas have yet to comment, but the video’s distribution sparked fierce criticism, both publicly and within Trump’s party.

Senator Scott expressed his hope that the post was fake, reinforcing the racism he perceived. Meanwhile, Republican Mike Lawler condemned the post as "incredibly offensive" and called for its immediate removal.

Utah Senator John Curtis further criticized it as "blatantly racist." Reports indicated concerns about account access and post approval processes after Florida representative Byron Donalds contacted the White House, learning a staffer "let the president down."

The White House Press Secretary defended the post, urging a focus on more pressing issues. Nonetheless, Derrick Johnson from the NAACP called it "disgusting," suggesting a distraction from other controversies like the Epstein case.

Criticism extended beyond politicians. Ben Rhodes, a former Obama adviser, remarked on Trump's tarnished reputation compared to the Obamas’ legacy. Several lawmakers, including Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom, harshly criticized Trump's behavior.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries described Trump as "vile," demanding Republicans denounce Trump’s actions. The debunked election claims in the video, part of a minute-long post, further fueled discontent. Trump's history of unfounded attacks on Obama, including false birther claims, added context to the uproar.

The incident underscores persistent tensions surrounding Trump’s rhetoric and highlights ongoing debates over race, leadership, and accountability in the political arena.

Key Takeaways

  • Trump’s video sparked bipartisan outrage for racism.

  • The White House claimed a staffer made an error.

  • Calls for denouncement and accountability intensified.

Something that seems to pass people by is that this man has absolutely no class. He is an ignorant (comparing himself to Nelson Mandela is a recent act that reveals his lack of self awareness) loud-mouthed tasteless American, who is interested only in himself and no-one and nothing.

This sums him up perfectly:

Someone asked "Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?" Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England, wrote this magnificent response:

"A few things spring to mind.

Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace - all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing - not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility - for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is - his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers.

And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults - he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness. There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege. And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully.

That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead.

There are unspoken rules to this stuff - the Queensberry rules of basic decency - and he breaks them all. He punches downwards - which a gentleman should, would, could never do - and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless - and he kicks them when they are down. So the fact that a significant minority - perhaps a third - of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think 'Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:*

Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.* You don't need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man. This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of bull<deleted>. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid.

Your incessant whining and criticism of President Trump is tedious and boring.

You and your liberal friends just can't accept the fact that the American voters elected Mr. Trump to end Socialism and bring Democrasy back to America and he is doing an excellent job!

Hold on. Who is repeating themselves? Bringing democracy back to America that's a really good one, most Americans and most people around the world would argue that he's trying to destroy Democracy in America, and bring fascism and an autocracy to America.

I think you and I have demonstrated that depicting ethnic minorities as animals has a well documented historical context that explains precisely why it’s not ‘just having a laugh’.

You’ll recall you were not laughing as we examined that very point.

There absolutely is not a huge difference.

I’ve explained to you precisely why depicting black people as apes or monkeys is so grossly offensive.

There is nothing playful about depicting black people as apes or monkeys, just as there’s nothing playful about depicting Jews as rats.

It’s exactly the same hate mongering dehumanization.

Of course I do accept only one of which offends you, with the other you have no objections whatsoever and are only too ready to excuse, obviate or otherwise defend it.

The video shows no such thing.
The Epstein files actually do contain those allegations against Trump.

Calling the 2016 Jane Doe case ‘debunked’ is false.
It was withdrawn after the plaintiff’s attorney said she received death threats, not adjudicated. No judge or jury ever ruled the allegations untrue.

‘Unproven’ does not mean ‘invented’.
It means never tested in court — which happens a lot in sexual-assault cases involving powerful people.
And it was not ‘dropped without evidence’. The complaint itself named two corroborating witnesses.

Brandolini’s Bulls*** Asymmetry Principle ensures I live a very fulfilling life.

https://www.justice.gov/epstein/files/DataSet%2010/EFTA01660679.pdf

  • Claims vs. Evidence: Presence in the files does not equal truth. The 2026 DOJ release is a "raw dump" that includes unverified FBI tip-line entries. The DOJ explicitly flagged many of these specific allegations as "unfounded," "fake," and "sensationalist"—clerical records of rumors, not investigative findings.

  • The "Jane Doe" Fallacy: A lawsuit withdrawn three times before discovery or a merits hearing has zero evidentiary weight. You cannot cite "corroborating witnesses" as fact when they were never deposed, cross-examined, or even identified in court.

  • The Burden of Proof: "Unproven" is a legal nullity. In a system based on the presumption of innocence, an unvetted, abandoned civil filing is not a "historical record"—it is a discarded accusation.

  • Brandolini’s Irony: You are the one benefiting from the Asymmetry Principle. It’s easy to point to a PDF and claim "it’s in there," but it takes more energy to explain that the content of that PDF was officially dismissed by the DOJ as lacking "a shred of credibility."

You are conflating social proximity (flight logs) with criminality (unsubstantiated tips), a distinction the DOJ itself made clear in the 2026 final report.

It’s exactly the same hate mongering dehumanization.

Of course I do accept only one of which offends you, with the other you have no objections whatsoever and are only too ready to excuse, obviate or otherwise defend it.

Didnt you see the difference ?

All Jews V Two specific Black people .

A whole all inclusive group of people V Two specific people whom are his rivals

Nazis depict ALL Jews as rats .

Trump depicts his political rivals and also himself as being an animal .

Had Trump suggested that all Black people are monkeys , then yes, that would have been offensive and unaceptable .

But, he didnt do that

Why on earth would I do that?

I am not here defending depicting any black person as a monkey.

Would you oppose it if a Black person got depicted as a Lion ?

No, a black person depicted as a lion is not a well established racist trope.

How many Jews would depicted as rats before you would regard it as a problem?
