My UK based lady friend with British citizenship and myself are looking at marriage in LOS. She obtained citizenship through employment.

Essentially we are looking at a quick trip down to the local amphur. I am guessing the family may want something more.

My real aim is to secure spouses exemption and avoid a hefty inheritance tax bill in the UK when I depart .

Why

easy in Thailand just need affirmation of freedom to marry from embassy, and a trip to MFA

Move all your money to Thailand before you "depart"

The UK would have little chance of recovering inheritence tax from a foreign country.

But personally, I'd rather risk UK tax than Thai banks.

In Thailand your money might depart before you "depart".

Marriage in Thailand is recognised equally to marriage in the UK. There is no need or method to register the Thai marriage in the UK so make sure she has an original and certified translation of the Thai marriage certificate handy when needed.
