UK Police Told to Act Tough on Anti-Migrant Protests

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has told police chiefs to learn lessons from last weekend’s anti-migrant protests in Dover and Portsmouth, and to use “all powers necessary” when dealing with future demonstrations.

In a meeting on Thursday, Mahmood asked for assurances that plans were in place for forces to respond quickly and effectively to far-right groups she said were seeking to intimidate communities.

Unacceptable Disorder in Dover and Portsmouth

On Saturday, masked protesters brought Dover to a standstill, blocking access to a nationally critical road serving the port. The following day in Portsmouth, around 200 people tried to stop migrants being driven away for processing.

The Home Office said the protests involved “unacceptable disorder”. It added that some protesters were dressed in black and wearing balaclavas, creating what Mahmood described as a “fear factor” and an intent to intimidate residents.

Mahmood said the incidents were different from other protests and needed a response shaped by those circumstances.

Face Coverings Ban Under Review

The BBC understands police leaders are now actively considering recently granted powers that would allow them to ban face coverings in specific areas during protests, in response to the behaviour seen in Dover and Portsmouth.

Mahmood also raised concerns about how quickly police could act when demonstrators tried to disrupt the movement of people and block routes used for processing migrants.

A further incident followed shortly after the Dover protest. Men blocked the only road out of Langstone Harbour near Portsmouth after the RNLI brought 120 migrants ashore.

It is not yet clear whether further demonstrations will be held. In some areas of England, local groups linked to the Patriot Platform umbrella have called for more rallies.

Intelligence, Planning and Public Order Powers

The meeting discussed the emergence of Patriot Platform, with ministers believing it aims to intimidate communities. Mahmood told police chiefs they should make better use of intelligence to improve preparedness ahead of this weekend.

Her comments came after Kent Police previously said it had been aware of a possible demonstration in Dover, but had not “fully assessed” the warning before the port road was brought to a standstill.

During the meeting, Mahmood said the government expected police to use their full powers and to take robust action against any criminal offences.

After the talks, Deputy Chief Constable Andy Mariner, the National Police Chiefs Council lead for public order, said forces were continually assessing and preparing for protests and any impact on public safety. He said this includes working with local forces, specialist teams, communities and partners to ensure support is available when needed.

Mariner added that the priority was to keep people safe, maintain public order and support the right to peaceful and lawful protest, while people committing criminal offences could “expect police action”.

New Rules for Blocking Critical Infrastructure

Major changes to protest law introduced over the last three years allow officers to intervene more quickly where demonstrations block critical national infrastructure, including roads used by ports. Officers can also designate an area as a face mask-free zone for the duration of a protest.

Police chiefs said they have launched an “enhanced and co-ordinated” approach to gathering intelligence in the days ahead.

After being sentenced to two years in the prison, you'd have thought, with his private education, he would try to avoid more prison time.

It's for the kids - Tommy and Tommo are doing this for the kids. In this video he doxes himself and his kids first name and rear of his head -he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

He said it out loud knowing he was filming himself and gave his date of birth. Astonishing. and that leads to here.

Yeah, he also doxxed his mum then blamed the Daily Mail (much as I hate standing up for that rag, they did nothing wrong) and told them they have 48 hours to buy his mum a new house. He's also set up a go fund me to buy her a house, but of course they are only in it to protect are wimmin.

And here he is aggressively confronting a man for not agreeing on camera to say he supports his protesters. Lovely man.

They don’t care about leaning English.

Instead, those hellhole countries complain about the new requirement that their dim bulbs are now required to learn English because as they say…

“We feel this is unfair. We believe, entry to the country should not require immigrants to forfeit their heritage.”

Yeah….great way to assimilate. Perhaps if the immigrants spent more time learning English and less time at public executions they can finally raise themselves above savagery.

These are English men, walking around and acting peacefully, not anything wrong in what they are doing. Yet the police and journalists portray them as thugs of a particular political persuasion. At the same time we have the RNLI assisting illegals to enter the country illegally rather than sending them back to whence they came. Assisting illegals must be a crime in itself. Surely the RNLI personnel should be arrested, not the people trying peacefully to protect their country

Don't be too hard on the RNLI crews - they are volunteers and are primarily concerned with saving life at sea. But if the UK Gov want to enable this insane and apparently organized route of migration, it should use only the coastguard or navy. The RNLI should not be involved in this.

Who has been in UK for twenty years and can't speak English? Any migrant who has been in UK for 20 years would more than likely have been through some immigration process that includes English tests. They would also have been through processes involving employment and paying taxes.

Sharia law has no impact on British law, halal meat sold in UK is subject to stun first law, schools in UK follow a national curriculum.

You Say someone has said there aren't that many. This thread is about migrants turning up and claiming asylum. How many asylum seekers do you think there are in UK?

True.

However, I see that Burnham has decreed that lentils be a mandatory component of school meals. I imagine the usual, forum dullards* will be going, "Hold on a minute. Them lentils isn't proper English food. That's.... that's... Muslim food! I bet that London mayor has put him up to this!!"

This is Timothy Miller the idiot who thought he would beat the Police by wearing a Burkah at an Anti Migrant demo in Portsmouth. Rightfully arrested, other Muslims at the demo were seen covered and ignoring ALL face covering law. These Anti Mussy protesters will now use this ruling to get round the ban on face coverings.

The Small ammount of Invaders crossing the Channel so far this year have been put at 17,281 from Jan 1 until 7 sept from official government figures. Great news a 40% decrease from last year.

Where are they staying at Tax payers expense ?

Migrants and asylum seekers arriving in the UK this year are primarily housed through a shifting combination of reduced hotel usage, military sites and barracks, and dispersal housing managed by the Home Office. [1, 2, 3]

Main Types of Accommodation

  • Hotels: The number of asylum seekers in taxpayer-funded hotels has halved over the past year, dropping to about 16,000 as the government closes dozens of facilities and returns them to local communities. [1, 2]

  • Military Sites and Barracks: The government has scaled up the use of former military and training facilities (such as Crowborough Training Camp in East Sussex and RAF Wethersfield in Essex) to move people out of hotels. [1, 2]

  • Dispersal Accommodation: More than 73,000 asylum seekers are housed across various non-hotel, private-landlord, or shared community properties (Houses in Multiple Occupation, or HMOs) dispersed nationwide under a no-choice policy. [1, 2, 3]

To give you the most relevant breakdown, would you like to know more about:
