Over at least the last 4 or 5 months, I have noticed very few new and interesting topics in the Community Pub that are actually worth a laugh, a bit of mischief, a debate, some intellectual stimulation, or even a bit of serious contemplation. It feels like the days are gone when somebody would post a good yarn, a clever caper, an interesting observation, a bizarre theory, a cheeky windup or some truly off the wall subject that somehow managed to get half the pub arguing about it. These days, it feels like much of the humor, enthusiasm and general willingness to jump into a good conversation has disappeared. I am also noticing far fewer people appear to be reading the threads, commenting, disagreeing, taking the piss, or generally chiming in. It feels like the place has lost its spit shine. Perhaps part of the problem is that the majority of the new posts seem to come from mainly just one poster, who fires out a barrage of increasingly looney, eyebrow raising and bizarre subjects every few days. Topics that most people either do not particularly want to read, cannot make sense of, can't be arsed, or simply have no idea what to do with. And, for lack of anything better to discuss, a few people still chime in on those hot messes, but increasingly the reaction seems to be less about the subject itself and more about expressing their hope that the continued streams of madness from this lone poster would finally dry up. So, has the Community Pub simply gone through a quiet spell, or have the glory days of good yarns, clever leg pulls, arguments, strange ideas and completely off the wall conversations finally been relegated to the rearview mirror?
