Can Extend Tourist Visa After The Expiration Date Of Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I got an double entry tourist visa on 21 january but i entered Thailand on the 5th of February,so i have to leave Thailand before 4 april.

My visa expires at 21 April so what are my options on extending my tourist visa ?

Can i get an 30 day extension for my first entry (max. departure date 3 may)

Then cross the border before my visa expires (21 april) to get a new 60 days entry.

And then get a second extension based on the second entry and leave 19 july (20 juni + 30 days)

I called immigration but the lady didn't understand my question (or had some difficulties with my english).

So i was hoping that somebody could help me out.

Thank you !

Michael

It seems that the Embassy / Consulate only gave you three months to make both entries. ( The usual for a double is six months ) The first extension is of no use to you because your first stay would exceed three months and your second visa entry period will be out of date. Just cross a border a few days prior to expiration of your stay, and make absolute certain that you re-enter Thailand prior to 21 April. You can extend that entry visa for up to 30 days more.

Without an extension on my first entry i have to leave 4 April.

However it would be more convenient for me to stay as close as to 21 april as possible, that's why i thought a extension would be possible.

Then i planned on doing a border run to get the second entry and maybe extend this one too (not sure yet) but i like to know my options.

Since i can't do the first extension i am going to do a border run before 4 April.

Then i can stay until the 3rd of june and then have the possibility to extend with 30 days (2 july)

I didn't knew it was possible to extend a visa after the visa has "expired"

Thanks for your fast reply dr_Pat_Pong, i really appreciate your help!

Michael

You CAN extend your first 60 day stay, but you won't be able to use it all, it is vital that you activate your second entry by doing a border run before the 'must enter before' date :o

Ok so it is possible to extend the first entry, it's just not cost-effective because i can only use about 15 days of that 30 day extension.

Thanks for the clarification Crossy! And now i know i can extend after the expiration date of my visa i will take this option.

Then i can stay until begin july (instead of half july) and this is perfectly fine for me :o

Just make sure you enter on the second entry before the enter before date. If you try to enter on that date, it will be too late.

nefelimhg, based on the visa expiration date you have given you can maximise your stay in thailand as follows, as you outlined in your original post:

Edit: Ignore the attached table. Departure date is wrong. See corrected table here.

I think you have the departure date incorrect. It should be 20/04/2008

You are right, jstumbo. Serious mistake. I am attaching the corrected table now.
