I have an old friend who needs to renew his retirement visa by end of july. His NZ passport also expires in october.

He is not so mobile these days due to his advanced years and i would appreciate any advice on the best way to proceed ie minimum number of journeys to embassey / immigration offices timings of applications, docs required etc.

Filling in forms will even be quite if not an impossible challenge for him.

Thanks

I believe it is possiable to use a legal service once you establish that fact so he might want to have Sunbelt or another service help him this year and in future thay would be able to take most of the required actions without his presence. Am not sure of details but believe it is probably time for him to do something like that.

First thing he should do is obtain a new passport (now).

I suggest your friend renews his passport shortly before his visa expires.

Then the visa renewal can be combined with the transfer of the visa to the new passport

If thats ok from the thai side that would save one trip to immigration.

I think it takes around 3 weeks for the NZ renewal process so will try to match with the thai visa renewal date.

I think funds are a bit tight on his part so proffessional type service is probably out of reach. However any rough idea on costs for this type of service?

Other than that a few friends will share the legwork to keep the costs down.

A quick check of Sunbelt shows 3,900 for renewals and 7,200 for first applications. Believe you would also have to add the government fees such as 1,900 baht TM.7 application.

Renew passport 5-6 weeks prior to visa renewal date then take

both old and new passports to immigration for extension 2-3 weeks

prior to visa expiry.

Naka.
