I will travel to Thailand in december for researching a business in Phuket. Shall I apply for a B or O visa at the Thai Embassy?

Non-Immigrant "B" would be the right classification.

"B" stands for "Business".

FYI "O" stands for "Others", ie Dependants, Spouses, Children, Retired persons etc.

Either. Whichever is your favorite letter "B" or "O," as the extension of stay based on business can be done with either a "B" or "O" visa. Not one iota difference in getting approved or not getting approved for the extension based on business.
