Why I feel sorry for poor James Bond

So, as you no doubt know, Netflix has released a slew of the Daniel Craig Bond movies. Obviously I could tell immediately back when Craig first came out that he'd be the worst Bond there ever was, so I gave his films a miss at the time. Quite a mistake as some of the films are not bad. But I noticed one shocking detail, James Bond is now issued with a Nokia phone. A Nokia phone! I mean, clearly Britain has hit hard times, but issuing their top secret agent a Nokia phone? I started feeling sorry for poor James. Then I noticed his boss was a rather unattractive woman, Judi Dench, his stand-in, 007 part deux so to speak, was a black woman. As was Moneypenny. The question is really, if Daniel Craig feels sorry for himself, for starring in the most pc-infested, product placement cursed Bond films ever? Poor James Bond.

I mean, that was just cynical, wasn't it, make James Bond carry a Nokia phone. No matter how hard up the UK, is we all know never in a million years would the UK stoop so low and issue its secret agents with Nokia phones. It ruins the whole illusion, and you realize James Bond is not real, nothing in it is real. Even in these hard times the UK would at least spring for a Samsung A54 for Bond. Even a used one would be better than a Nokia.

Maybe that's why Daniel Craig stopped doing Bond? He said he wanted at least a Vivo X300 and they told him "No, mate, Nokia is paying the big bucks, you'll be using a Nokia".

Who'd want to be a James Bond with a Nokia phone? That's like being a Tennis ace with a wooden Dunlop. Come on. It's 2026.

Those Bond villains are pretty real , sometimes even worse.

Good to see you too, Flor.

According to Wired magazine, there is a precedent, in that another exciting personality uses a Nokia phone. East Germany's Angela Merkel.

I wonder if in the next bond he'll be filming blueprints with a Polaroid? Assuming they pay enough coins of course.

Or maybe Sony can issue Bond with a Betamax. To review the villain videos.

Probably because, at that time, Nokia was the market leader (until 2012).

He's more versatile as an actor than the previous Bonds, everything from gangsters (layer cake), queer junkie (queer), goofy redneck (logan lucky), poirot style detective (knives out). Think he got tired of being typecast as Bond.

No, no, the top rated phones of 2012 were the Samsung Galaxy S III, alongside heavy competitors like the Apple iPhone 5 and the HTC One X. These devices defined the mobile market that year with larger screens, faster multi-core processors, and sharper cameras.

Nokia began its rapid market decline between 2007 and 2011.

None of that matters of course, since it was all about who's stumping up the greenbacks for the makers of Bond, they'd probably put a Chinese Huawei into Bond's hands if the Chinese paid for it. Obviously they're not stupid, so Bond is stuck with Nokia. Which is about as believable as Moneypenny using a Sony Vaio in HQ. What were they thinking?

If they're just out for the Dollars, why not go the whole hog and get Bond into the Food and Beverage game? Have Mister Donut and Weetabix sponsor Bond. It's ludicrous. It just underlines that nothing in Bond is real. Not even his phone.

Yes, good actor. And the films really are not bad, if you can look past the PC garbage and product placement that's rammed down your throat. The action scenes are passable, and yes the acting has its moments. Unfortunately, Daniel Craig had the sexual charisma of an accountant paired with the dour charm of an East German weight lifter, which meant his chemistry with the women was close to nil. None of his sex scenes are believable . What a far cry from the animal magnetism of Connery or the suave charm of Roger Moore. But ever since I found out about Nokia, clearly nothing of it is real.

Which is rather odd, since parts of the manosphere insist you should model yourself on Bond. Who is a fictional character with a Nokia phone. Personally I think Peter Rabbit is more trustworthy and more manly. At least he never used a Nokia phone post 2007.

That's what I wrote. Until 2012. The first two Craig movies were released in 2006 and 2008, and Nokia was the market leader.

Did he still use Nokia after 2012?

I had the Nokia 808 PureView back then. It was probably the best camera phone on the market at the time. The rest of your slurs about the actors are honestly just a weak attempt at character assassination of James Bond.

No Time to Die was okay, much like the rest of the Bond films. Some good stunts, but nothing truly spectacular. Craig is a good actor, whether you like him as Bond or not.

Well, yes, he has that going for himself, those blue eyes, Craig. I guess that goes a long way with some women. I never got how women can be attracted to faces like that, or Jason Statham. They look like average guys. But yes, blue eyes, fair enough.

But the Nokia decline started in 2007 already. Yes, maybe the deals were made in 2005, who knows. Anyway, Bond is STILL using Nokia in the latest 2021 film, yes. So it really is all about product placement. Believability took a back seat clearly.

Ummm, the Nokia Pureview had a tiny 4.0-inch 360x640 display vs the larger 4.8-inch Super AMOLED (720x1280) on Samsung. Okay the megapixels, but even the Nokia processor was slower than the Samsung SIII's.

I didn't character assassinate Bond. The makers of Bond assassinated Bond in a hale of PC nonsense and product placement. I mean imagine this supposed literary paragon of male virtues being plastered over with PC garbage and product placement commercialisation. That's what happened. The makers of Bond assassinated him. Not me.

Even the good acting, action scenes, cannot save these heaps of ultra PC garbage and product placement excess. Nobody who understands what's going on can have any sympathy for these Bond abominations.

According to AI, product placement in big bucks in Bond movies. No Nokia figure ever disclosed, but considering what others offered, surely it was quite a large number ...

No Time To Die was OK.

The Woke nonsense has even infected the game now though. 007 First Light has a rude/bossy Asian woman as M, a rude/bossy black woman as Moneypenny and Bond's Drill instructor is rude, patronizing and black. In the cut scenes they all sneer at Bond like he is some type of retard. All the old silly stuffy characters are white. Obviously.

Hardly a white face in the Q-lab. Maybe 90% non white at a guess.

It's worse than the adverts on ITV. 😄

I thought there was supposed to be equal representation of races? Not almost complete erasure of white people. 😄

Looking forward to a black Lesbian Bond and her furry trans partner to finish off the franchise for good. 😄

Explains why Austin Powers had really obvious product placement. 555

A man that models himself after a misogynist, chauvinist isn't doing too well as a man. The novels themselves label him as a manipulator who looks at women with disdain and replaceable. That they have more power in the later films brought him closer to reality, exposing his faults more.

All Bonds were like this, players who made moves over naive, beautiful women. Judi Dench is a counterpart to Bond, an excellent actress who puts Bond in his place often. Called him a blunt instrument and a sexist misogynist dinosaur. She had his number all along, which all women should with that type of "man".

I won't be long , I expect a Black gay Bond to arrive first , and no doubt he will find "love" with a disabled Asian guy who has "learning difficulties" One can only hope that the resultant "love" scenes are handled sensitively or it could spell the end of the Bond brand forever.

Only the Craig Bond movies were interesting. The earlier ones were really too silly to take seriously, especially after Goldfinger. Hard to believe the franchise lasted as long as it did.

Oooh, the Incels are out in force!

The Bond franchise happens to be fiction, right from the start. Get it? Fiction, not reality. There wasn't really a Dr No on an island off Jamaica who could alter the telemetry of NASA rockets. I don't even think Ursula Andress could sell her giant conch shells in Miami for $50. Also, I don't think a Black genuine WWII decorated veteran (John Kitzmiller as Quarrel) would be scared of a mechanical "dragon". Fiction, guys.

The Broccoli Family has done well with the franchise and made a lot of money. In later years they did adopt a lot of product placement (e.g., Omega watches, Brioni suits), but they certainly seem to know their target market. Making Bond less obviously misogynistic upset the Incels trying to live vicariously through the character, but it broadened the films' appeal to a wider audience, especially women. Ka-ching! They even went so far as to make Bond a sex object, making sure Daniel Craig was ripped and even having him do a beefcake shot coming out of the surf in Casino Royale....which is a bit of goose and gander, after 40 years of just trying to appeal to men.

Personally, I think the woman playing Moneypenny is kind of sexy, much more than the original Moneypenny. Judi Densch as M is also a good choice, as she has some serious acting chops. Besides, Gina Haspel was DCI under Trump 1.0 and Tulsi Gabbard was DNI in Trump 2.0, so if Densch is "woke", Trump is woker in real life.

I understand the Incels might stop buying tickets if Bond goes more "woke", but I'd still bet on the franchise owners to know both their product and target audience.

They were made from the novels. Action movies are loved by millions, no matter how unrealistic some get. J.K. Rowling did this with Harry Potter, making instant millionaires out of child actors and herself a billionaire. People love fantasy, and Bond is a fantasy to women who like the rugged type heroes, even if they are players they should despise. One reason they like the bad boys, which is dumb but is what it is. Men love the action, and women love the romance, though one sided again. Like Wingate pointed out also, they lately have more women liking them, seeing Bond put in his place by a strong woman in M.

I'd go for Sam Smith. The 2026 version, obviously.

He's white, but apart from that he's perfect.

Excellent actress she may be, but as the boss of Bond she was about as convincing as a Nigerian Prince asking for your bank account number. Or a Bond with a Nokia.

Yes, clearly it is fiction, but there has to be some believability, and the novels clearly were well written and believable to the extent that generations of men did model themselves on Bond. To this day parts of the manosphere tell you to act like Bond. When he's now as believable as Peter Rabbit.

They did of course try for a black James Bond, but even the black actor said no black guy should play him, so that didn't work. I don't think they'll have the audacity to make Bond black. The PC clock has moved on, and that is now no longer acceptable. It would kill Bond off for good, well, what's left of him.
