Overstay Increase To 500b/day

... while waiting in the queue for my Visa extension, I saw a sign at Pattaya Immigration saying "The overstay fees will be raised from 200 to 500 Bt a day in the near future"

Anyone else heard of that too?

Haven't heard of it myself yet... but not surprising.

Can assume then that the new max will be 50,000 baht?

What is surprising is that overstay fees didn't follow with the nearly

4-fold increase (from B500 to B1900) in extension fees several years ago. By that measure, it would be B800 a day... (80,000 baht max) or thereabouts.

Certainly not as if there needed to be any further rationale for not overstaying... to do so is absolutely ill-advised.

I agree fully with this, no one should overstay - it should also not have a limit on the total - should be go to jail or pay the money, too many people stay here illegally, no sympathy for them...

So an "accidential" 4 week overstay (assuming you dont get nicked first)will now cost you .....US$350....or in real dosh ..£200.....

Makes a Visa seem cheap......

One would imagine that 500 baht/day will discourage many of the more casual over-stayers from doing so. Don't be surprised to hear some noise from immigrations somewhere down the road when they discover that the revenues traditionally collected from this little money-spinner have dried up to some extent.

Doubtful - still the fine is very small, why not 5000K first offense, 10K second offense, 3rd offense 20K??? I guaranteed you a very stiff fine would solve overstay problems immediately.
