  1. I understand that the Mae Jo lantern release is always at least a week or 2 before the Yee Peng celebration dates.

Since Loy Krathong full moon night this year falls on Nov 28 which is a Wednesday, it's unlikely that the Mae Jo lantern date be Nov 30th, rather confusing.

    Can someone update ?

  2. Let's put Lady Gaga into perspective - she's a nothing, a nobody - who the hell cares what she says about anything?

Let's worry more about who's cosying up to the Chinese!

    hit-the-fan.gifhit-the-fan.gifhit-the-fan.gif

well she is someone who has sold over 4 million albums so thats already 4 million people who know her and willing to spend money on her music(legally)

You can double that amount if you count the illegal downloads, triple it if you account for people who actually follow any kind of music scene and multiply it by 10, when taking into account people who read fashion mags.

Now,, who and what exactly are you?

And who cares about Chinese? is this thread about Chinese? or unemployment or factory closure's?

May i suggest before you start to post total and utter drivel you actually thinkrolleyes.gif

Your own figures show Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters and Fans” (her words, not mine) have bought 4 million albums. You manipulate this figure up to 120 million by including your own estimates of bootleg downloads and what people read in doctor’s and dentist’s waiting rooms! Even if your 120 million people figure is remotely close to reality Lady Gaga is known to no more than 1.68% of the world’s population of 7,106 billion (United States Census Bureau November 2011 estimate). Divide that figure by 30 to get the true number of people who paid good money for one of her albums! She’s not going to be running for any sort of World Office soon on those numbers!

Moving on to something more serious - are you a total ignoramus? Once it was Japan, then Taiwan and now China is the most efficient state sanctioned secret stealing faking nation on earth with a frightening 19.2% of the world's population. It is very close to more than 5 times the USA population. India, another problem in the making, is not that far behind China in thinking and population. China has long since left behind small fry faking of such trinkets as Rolex's for small fry countries like Thailand to pick up on (and idiots like Lady Gaga to comment on and annoy local people) and is now concentrating on big time industry. While you may still pick up high quality pots, pans and the like in Germany, France, the UK, USA and look to see where they are made, don't kid yourself all's well with the world when you see they are made in your country! Ask yourself instead, who owns the factory? Hence my "drivel" about unemployment and factory closures. (incidentally, the word is "closures", not "closure's" - schooling a bit lacking?) How is it unemployment in the West is as high as it's been since 1929 and getting worse and total countries are either publicly insolvent (Greece, Portugal Ireland and others) , or closetly insolvent - the USA particularly among them (nobody in the States from politician down to the man in the street having the guts to admit it)?

"Now,, who and what exactly are you?"

Ignoring the lousy grammar again - what business is that of yours?

    \

Don't understand what you are trying to say.

I always know that when goods are so cheaper; imimitation or originals, sales will increase and help employment.

Don't blame the Chinese for making cheaper goods; blame the originals for selling too expensive. If not, how could the Chinese make cheaper ones ?

  3. .

    wjmark,

I don't usually reply to unreasonable people but being very "Thai" today, I reply you. I did not thank the previous posts because I don't find them useful to me and a definite or accurate answer is not there and the 2 pages are mostly members reply amongst themselves. I asked again because the questions are different from my OP. Hope you learn something and improve yourself.

Well, thank you for taking the time for being very "Thai" today..Yes, I am unreasonable. I apologize - I have learned something. I hope it improves me.

And thank you for asking such a different question. There are a few thousand streets in CM. I am sure we could figure out how much to the airport from each one. You know - how much to the airport from from Wawarot? How much from Chiangmai Gate? How much from the Mcdonalds? Or the other Mcdonalds? Or the restaurant that sells brown soup with noodles. Or the other one that sells brown soup with noodles...

And it's great that you don't thank people who don't exactly and precisely answer your (so very) different questions. I can understand not feeling grateful to people who only TRY to help you. Only thank the ones that succeed.

    sigh

Anyone know what's the fair price that I should pay the tuk-tuk or songtheaw if I cannot find a taxi from the Wawarot area to the airport ?

    For you? 300 THB.

    This is beyond silly.

I am sorry - but this is very disrespectful, and not funny. 300 baht! I cannot thank you for this answer.

Really, should it be 47 baht? Or 53 baht? I heard a rumour that someone actually made it to the airport for 41 baht. If I pay 65 baht, should I post a separate topic about it?

    sigh again

    .

Good that you learn something from my messages. Keep it up. On your last para, you need not start a thread but you wish to, no one can stop you. You may put up the car's registration number if you like.

  4. Another well-known place for kuay jab is on Tung Hotel road near the Railway Station. You seem to be in that area a lot, so could be worth a try: http://g.co/maps/amyrn

If it's just the crispy pork dishes then those places are everywhere; I visit one at 89 Plaza a lot, and just yesterday found a new one because my tire blew up almost right in front of it and I was stuck there for 30 minutes while some tire shop dude fixed it. A bit out of town though, but nice Chinese guy there who reminded me a little bit of Kung <deleted> Panda's stepfather in his demeanor and total focus on serving good food. (Also has Chinese duck dishes and dim sum): http://g.co/maps/wmxn6 And then I liked the crispy pork in Sarapee, just past the police station on the other side of the road. But that could also be because of the neon-orange sauce that came with it, kind of turned it into Fukushima Pork, which would be a great name for a dish. Or a rock band.

    Thanks again.

No, I hardly go to the Railway station area and I prefer taking buses compared to trains; but I will attempt to try the food you mentioned there in my next visit. I went to the Railway Station last time because of going to the Royal Flora; and yes the crusty pie in a cafe there is great. The lady claimed they supply to Suckbucks everyday.

  5. Wow, this is another successful stunt from her manager or publicity department.

Everyone(both the Thais and the Swiss) should be thankful and grateful to her statement.

    1) She brought the attention of this fake-branded goods that's on for so long in Thailand; but due to intentional reason(which I choose to believe), corruption or incompetency of the government, it's not stopped. Her act will certainly help in a way.

    2) The originals are always proud if imitations are made. Only good products, or overpriced products or well-branded ones have imitations. Anyone those who bought imitations will not buy the originals even if imitations are not there; as the price differences are miles apart. By having imitations, the originals earn advertisement and publicity for their brands. Take cds for example, at 300 baht per cd, I can afford to listen to so many. BUt at 30 to 50 baht, I will buy them and get to know more singers and musicians. So eventually these singers will stand to gain..

    3) Why should some Thais feel offended from her statement ? They should be grateful. Unless those people felt shameful for Thailand big imitation trade and tried to hide the facts. Well then, blame the government for allowing it, not Lady Gaga for buying it.

No matter how I see it from any angle, no one stand to lose from her statement.

Lady Gaga also knows that her imitations cds and dvds are on sale. Many people will not want to buy her originals too. But for 20 to 5o bahts, many will buy and get to know her. I am sure that's how some Thai fans get to know her and like her eventually.

Back on branded goods, they are all OVERPRICED, thus giving way for affordable imitations.

Now, see things positively and be thankful to Lady Gaga.

I am not her fan and I don't like her singing but I will begin to like her now.

  6. It's that urgent to find pork at the 3 Kings? There are 1,000+ places in C.M. that serve the same thing!

The OP said this is the best in Thailand......

    WinneTheKhwai,

Do you know any other places in Chiang Mai that sell the same kind of soup which you think is up to their(or yours, mine) standard too ?

I know quite a a few stalls in Bangkok but not in Chiang Mai.

  7. Thank you for the replies.

Looks like it's very rush catching 4 trains and 2 ferries trip and hardly any time time for walking around except before 7 pm for the return train to BKK., since I must catch the 1.10pm trin from Ban Laem to Maerklong and the return at 3.30pm. So it's safer to do my walking around at Mahachai after returning from the 3.30 pm train and before I catch the 7 pm train to rerturn to Wong Wian Yai.

  8. Is it still in operation ?

Let's say I start from Wong Wian Yai, do the first part, tour the market & Wat, cross the river by ferry and do the second part, get to the Kuan Yin Temple and return to Bangkok, can I start at 11 am ? Is there enough time ?

  9. Yes there is..... BUT it is probably too expensive, they don't have and music and they don't serve pork (Muslim owned).

    laugh.pngcheesy.gif

    I don't get it. sad.png

You don't get it ? I guess it's another form of depression like #2 self-claimed.

    mrclough,

I think the one you mentioned(with coffee & breakfast mentioned) is a big one(2 shop lot) but no staff, not a single customer nand a lady sleeping on the floor. Near to the new Terminal 3; also left side is a new Doi Pui cafe, very small but nice done and a/c.

  10. Why doesnt the OP just go there and bloody well ask them; instead of writing all these cryptic messages, that to be honest are sounding more sinister than anything....10-20 young staff indeed?w00t.gif

Yes, 10 to 20 staffs. Don't believe ? At anytime, you can see more than 10. Mostly don't understand any English, they served me wrongly. I managed to be there at 12 noon. This is my 2nd visit. I don't see any other restaurant that display more crispy pork than this place, can even see a lot more inside beside an oven, ready to sell on the same day. Their crispy pork is thick and chunky, unlike most Thai's style. Here it's like between Thai & Chinese style roast pork.

I ordered a plate of rice with a lot of crispy pork, a half pc of boiled egg, some cucumbers, and sauce for 50 baht and a seperate bowl of soup(pepper based) with intestines, liver slices and crispy pork which I believe is also 50 baht, since I am charged a total of 100 baht; a little higher than other places but well worth it since they provide free plain water as well as Chinese tea and some onion stalks on the table. They also the soup with a strange type of noodle inside which look weird. They also have a type of thick white looking sausages which also look weird to me.

The place is actually just beside the 3 Kings monument Art Museum, so my description in the OP went too far. The songtheaw driver who took me there know the place, the food is call "kuay chap". By 12.40 pm when I leave, all the tables(min 15 to 20) are already occupied. They open 8 am to 3 pm only. All Thai-looking customers, not a single foreigners; lets see which guidebook will put in first; but I think they will not entertain any guidebook.

To the last poster, I ask to confirm their operating hours because I don't want to waste 30 mins and other sacrifices, can't I ?

  11. I have booked a couple of nights to try the concept. At Air Asia's offer price of 300 baht a night (basic) it is worth a go.

I have always been a fan of budget airlines so I can see that a similar concept for a hotel would have some appeal.

Take note with all the other add-ons(towel & the air-cond is a must because their window can open just less than a 5cm gap).

Pls let us know if the paint smell is still there.

  12. i find the transport in chiangmai to be rather on a high side. i once had a metered taxi in bkk and the fare turns out to be suprisingly cheap. not too sure if one could get a meter fare in chiangmai but i guess it will be cheaper and more worthwhile for shorter distance travel

Agree with you, especially for short distances, a taxi in BKK cost cheaper than a non a/c bus-like songtheaw in CM, unless the locals pay less than 20baht ?

  13. Thanks Winnie,

I paid 50 baht(his asking price) alone from the main road(turn left and turn right as I step out of the airport) to the bus Arcade. I am not the first passenger. Another passenger inside did the translation for us.

    highonthai,

Not everyone makes senseless or useless posts in forum but as long as you enjoy doing it, i guess it's not totally useless.

    wjmark,

  14. Thought power/prayer/belief boosts the immune system and can affect the brain's work in healing. So, while large wounds will not heal spontaneously, and limbs will not regrow, results like this ( Alterations and brain and immune function produced by mindfulness meditation http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/12883106 ) suggest there is a decent chance that a reasonably skilled mindfulness meditator can speed up the healing process and make it smoother.

Meditation, beliefs, prayers etc can effect more than just the immune system but in the case of OP mentioned, it's the nerve system.Nerve system and immune system are different systems although they work together in some ways. Paralzed, stroke cases are more affected by the nerve system while cancer for example by the immune system.

Bear in mind, those who know it already will not get the effect if they go for prayers.

  15. This place right?

    http://g.co/maps/zmydf

It seems likely they're morning & afternoon only. But I don't know for a fact, and the opening times don't seem to be indicated on the sign.

Your link cannot be accessed. I guess it's the same place if my description fits. Any idea what time they normally close in open in the open and close in the afternoon. I need to leave early tomorrow and and back to Chiang Mai late afternoon; will try to adjust my times if possible.

Their crispy pork and the soup combined is the best I ever had in Thailand. Discover them by chance during the last visit.

  16. electrified,

Although my OP started with looking for a place "within the city", I can change my condition upon someone's recommendation; and I never mention that I am not willing to pay more than 20 baht to get to it. Just that I have asked some locals who drive and since they don't know the place, I just hope to get more description before looking for the taxi or songtheaw.

Since you mention the famous ex-singer is not there to perform regularly and the other is not so good, I am in no hurry. Thanks anyway.

  17. -Who needs room service? (When there are so many good eating places near by?) Who needs a closet? Who needs a radio? (most people have their own tunes on their cell phones or i-pads) Who needs a swimming pool (when there is a sea nearby? Be sure to rinse off though) The purpose of Tunes is do give a cheaper rate just like Air Asia does (with lots of add ons) By the way, does the Tunes Hotel website have life insurance added on that one has to say "YES" to in order to remove the icon? (just joking)

Speaking of AirAsia, heard so much complaints on them recently.
