that's bs about spending 1,900 every 90 days.
for someone with your username, you don't fact check well. 1.9k baht every 90 days is the norm, you were one of the lucky ones up until now.

Is working online and generating money offshore (no Thai customers) defined as 'working illegally' in Thailand

Does that make what I said untrue or invalid?
Whether someone applied to renew with 9 months remaining or 1, if they applied around the time of the UK passport crisis they'd be forced onto overstay with no valid way to clear it in both instances.
Applying early or late isn't a way to avoid a random event like a backlog. When you write that some may think that's what you were implying.
-
As an aside for future information it is possible (and probably a good thing considering the mess that the Passport Office is in) to renew a UK passport up to 9 months before it expires. You get your extra 9 months added onto the validity of the new passport.
The day you apply, your passport is not valid for travel, regardless of time left until expiry.

It appears the hate is directed toward not being able to speak better Thai--and really, don't you think having to pass a test speaking in a language, is the best way to determine if you are indeed studying that language? I think the simple test would be to have to apply for the ED extension in Thai only--and, that is after one year of study.
So you'd deny those with learning difficulties an extension? How is failing a test proof that you never studied and grounds for being stranded at a border. The best way to determine if you're studying is (shocker) attendance records from the school. Yes this could be fabricated but so can marriages, retirement funds, tourist itineraries. Conduct spot checks at accredited schools.

What is your daily business in Thailand???? online poker ????
That's a lot of question marks, are you going to have a heart attack if I tell you there are hundreds of online poker players in Thailand.

Which is an utterly inadequate amount of class time.
All you need for a retirement visa extension is to be 50 and pay a dodgy company to put 800k in your account briefly.
So you ED Visa dodgers beware, you are going to get found out and will not be admitted into the Kingdom after your next exit.
Not if the test is writing 2 sentences of our own choice in Roman letters.

I'm fluent and never attended a lesson, just used the visa as a way to stay without border runs. With the school's blessing and thanks for making class sizes smaller.
OP attends lessons and learns languages slowly. Perhaps he doesn't have a knack for it, but excels in other fields.
Which of us do you guys hate more?
P.S. the IO herself asked OP to write in Roman letters, not Thai.

Agree though you'll look silly if something gets lost in translation. Perhaps even if not
A Thai friend once linked me to a western celebrity (forget which sadly) who had a Thai language tattoo, and said it meant nothing.

Not true, or more precisely certainly not true for emergencies with death risk.
A minority of cases then. I was originally replying to AK's post about farang 'getting sick' being a drain on the thai economy. Get real.

They weren't admitted without paying up front. Therefore they didn't cost Thailand money.
-
so you claim they are going to let you die on the doorstep? do you have evidence of this happening?
Common knowledge I thought. It's happened to friends of mine and many posts on TV discuss this. Read a recent post quoting 40k, can't recall the thread. Google it or start a thread?

One should try to get a job in the EU (if one is not an EU citizen) and unless that person fullfills all the extremely rigid requirements, they are just NOT let in. Most employers won't even dream of employing people illegally, although this would be much cheaper (refugees and others without a permission to follow employment, (so called "tolerated people"), as if they are caught they face very stiff fines and other penalties.
Yet these Thai language school agencies face no penalties for employing teachers off the books to avoid taxes, underpaying them, not arranging 3000 baht work permits, etc. Comparisons between first world countries and Thailand quickly fall apart.
-
if they get sick or have an accident they end up in thai hospitals and cost thailand money. and almost every country in the world does not want people working illegally if at all possible and will take steps to stop it if they can. thailand has decided they can.
Thai hospitals won't admit you until you can pay 20k+ upfront on a credit card.
-
Maybe you think this is funny? But hundreds or probably thousends of Thai families have lost everything they own. And have borrowed so much money that they can never pay it back.
Post #3 is pretty funny light comedy given recent events, and got a few likes. Doesn't mean the thread isn't a serious matter.

I assume you had a re-entry permit for an extension of stay you got at immigration not a ED visa. How long had you been out of the country?
This should be answered. If you didn't have a re-entry permit you'd be coming in on visa exemption, which they don't like lately.

Sarcasm lost on you again.

took me 11 weeks to renew UK passport fwiw

And yet many Farang still say Thai education system no good, and Thai student stupid.
Partly because most Thais can't use the verbs to be (look at your own writing).
Partly because most Thais always assume that all of us from the West are the same (Farang).
Partly because most Thais assume all westerns speak the same language, eat the same food and like the same things.
Partly because you insist in thinking that Thailand is a well developed country that has a great educational system.
Wow that joke went right over your head.

Only possibly a problem at land borders in the South, without a travel itinerary on hand

Thais pushing in front of you in the 7/11 queue, right?

I applied May 2, got passport a few days ago, so 2.5 months wait.
The appointment process though was me suggesting 3 dates and times to them by email, I suggested 1 day after my email, and that was fine. Surprised to hear they told you 4 weeks. I mean, you should be picking the date, not them.
Link explaining how you suggest 3 dates and times, by email - https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports/y/thailand/renewing_new/adult
I'd email again with your dates, in case you got some confused member of staff?
I was at the office an hour or two, having to wait 4 weeks makes no sense. The crisis is in the UK, not Thailand.

The blacklist rules haven't been applied yet. 'They' say the end of this month, but who knows.
-
There doesn't appear to be solid set of rules for what's going on.
There isn't, yet. Everyone is waiting for more info to come out.
Man Bags. Why Don't More Farang Men Use These?
