  1. this borders are hardly a tourist spot and the international press really don't care about that.

It is a disaster for the people working illegal here.

"It is a disaster for the people working illegal here". Good, they are the ones who are causing problems for the many ex pats here who have the right visa.

I see this posted on these forums on a regular basis, still waiting on any evidence of it. Just how do people breaking the rules affect you, if you're not?

  2. They're for Thais that don't want to be caught with their mia nois, they just drive in and an assistant rushes over to close the curtain for you, discreetly collects the cash from the door behind the curtain, no ID checks, no reception, etc.

  3. I've been to one, there was a desk in the corner of the car park with a couple guys, one comes up to you as you pull in with your car, if I recall.

If you poke your head out the curtain and catch one of the guy's eye they come over with anything you need, condoms, water, etc.

I can't 100% recall if there was a reception, don't think so though.

The room was pretty unromantic, not terrible though. No top sheet on the bed.

Not sure where good rooms are, if they exist

  4. Jesus? Are you serious?

Go to Google Earth street view & take a walk down a few side sois off Walking Street.

    Curtains??????????

    Drive Thru???????

EDIT: You're thinking the hotels supply the women????

    WRONG.

That'd be a Malaysian massage parlor or a Thai soapy as far as that goes.......

$20 -30 USD bucks (or less) will get you a cheap room all over Pattaya.

Drive thru. I've heard it all now.

Barely enough room to change your mind in Pattaya much less a flippin drive thru ST joint.

They do exist, yes they have curtains. Yes you drive in and out.

Who said anything about the hotel supplying the women, or Pattaya...

  5. Didn't read the thread but it's because they're more way interesting than 'good girls', for certain people.

For those people 'educated' Thai girls are numbingly boring, the sex sucks, etc.

It's simliar to how some girls like 'bad guys'. It's more exciting to have a dysfunctional relationship, you feel more alive.

  6. 'Thrown in jail' is also an opinion.

Much more likely a foreigner working online (not taking jobs from Thais) would get the lighter side of the penalty, a cash fine then released. That's what happened to the 17 foreign teachers in Chiang Mai (physically working in Thailand, so worse).

Section 51 of the Aliens Act of Thailand says that's 2000 Baht.

Its not an opinion in the least, there is a provsion in the law to do exactly that so not a question of can or cant, its a question of will or wont

Yeah I didn't say they can't, I said it's more likely to be a 2k fine, and provided an anecdote of that happening, the teachers in Chiang Mai.

Just like the anecdote earlier of being told 'no problem for you' when they explained they work online but don't sell anything in Thailand. You guys don't have much to go on other than 'working is working' in the Alien Labor act.

See you in the next 10 threads debating this (as we've been doing for a year or two now) I have some emails to answer :)

  7. Why shouldnt they gob off to anyone ? There are those on here who say its all above board and have stated a WP is not required, so why should they be worried about who they tell ?

Because low level officials are corrupt, it's a developing country. Keeping quiet about it is irrelevant to whether or not a judge (more educated and not incentivized by money) would prosecute you for it.

Even the immigration chief is corrupt http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/854498-thai-immigration-chief-warned-he-might-face-the-chop/

  8. Interesting but irrelevant, given the Thai language version of the law takes presedence and is the offical version

The Thai version doesn't mention online work done remotely for offshore entities, with no physical presence in Thailand, paid in a foreign currency, either.

i have been told the moon is made of cheese, but just because i have been told some thing doesnt make it true

Anecdotal evidence is within the scope of the scientific method for claims regarding particular instances.

Why ? certain people say working on line is all above board and legal if this is true why go to all this trouble then

Low level authorities figures in Thailand are sometimes corrupt / don't stick to proper laws, for example http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/854498-thai-immigration-chief-warned-he-might-face-the-chop/

if a profession or job is not on the "excluded professions" list then a foreigner can undertake this work in Thailand and a work permit be had ?

The issue is with the definition of 'in', I'd say common sense dictates I'm not working 'in' Thailand by writing a blog about cats and having Adsense revenue from Google wired to my Paypal... your opinion may vary.

  9. Providing service at a substantial charge to extend the stay of foreigners in this country such as arranging student visas for foreigners without actually attending any educational institutes or changing tourist visas into business visas.

The charges range from 12,000-15,000 baht per head.

So it turns out they do endorse young digital nomads living here on Ed visas and skipping classes, as long as they're paying and staying at home quietly (not taking jobs from Thais).

I guess some posters on here can stop moaning about that.
