  1. I only have this space as shown. Unfortunately shadow starts hitting the space after about 2:30 pm, so I want to have a metal construction being done. The metal construction will hold the solar panels completely leveled/horizontally.

That way the shadow will not affect them so much/a lot later only. The metal construction will be hold in place by being mounted to the walls beside the roof.

The roof on the left hand side in the 2nd pic is not ours...

I also would like to put a panel or 2 on the other side of the roof (last picture). In this case not leveled, just lay it down on the tiles of the roof.

Any ideas? Will the wind blow it away? Or how to hold it down? Maybe not enough airflow below the panels if they are put just on the roof tiles? Of course I would put a bar in place to avoid the panel from sliding down...

Key cards are available with many security levels.

Obviously high security is more expensive.

But does it really work? We have such a system in my condominium, and it happens often that people who "forgot" their card just walk through with somebody else. And mostly the security does nothing.

I guess that is also the case in many other buildings.

High security cards won't change that.

You are absolutely right. I just wanted to know about some alternatives. They exist but lazy security or general carelessness would render alternatives useless.

Knowing this I wonder what the real benefits of a security guard are? Anyone can get into the building anytime. Not stopped by anyone. So? Or what is the benefit of an access card system with access cards easily to copy? With no one controlling ever if copies are around?

  3. Does anyone know if there is a place or business in Bangkok that is selling a building access card system where the access/key cards cannot be copied?

From practically all buildings I tried so far the access cards can be easily copied just anywhere in any mall in Bangkok. So there is absolutely no control about how many people have access cards.

  4. How to explain to some (most likely) Thai staff that they are wrong? I find this the most difficult thing to do. They hate nothing more than to be proven wrong (not only government officials), even if I try in most sensitive way...

  5. Update: two weeks after I applied for the non-Immigrant based on family visa they called to request more documents. My wife complained to me after talking to them that I did not submit all needed documents which were Kor Ror 22 and a certified translation of our marriage document.

But nowhere in the process did they ask for these documents.

We do not know how much longer it might need from now to get the visa (requested documents were submitted minutes after they asked for to the given email address)...

    Epoxy grout is over kill.

If the water balance is kept in place there will be no issue.

No one cares about water balance in this country!

90% Tric-Chlor is the culprit. Best have a salt chlorinator installed!

I have dealt with hundreds of commercial pools here & I get a blank stare when I question about this issue. (17 yrs)

I would also think some drum testing of the existing tiles needs to be done to see if any will need to be re-glued!

Some domestic pools we have redone needed nearly 1/3 of the tiles needed re-setting!

Agree with you but despite a civil engineer confirmed to the management that their low pH (caused by the 90% TCCA) is the problem they still refuse any responsibilitie. Useless to present scientific facts. They do not understand this. So it is not about if they care, they do not understand any science...

How to perform a drum testing? Knock on the tiles and see if it sounds hollow?

  7. Thanks for your thougts.

I think whilst the process itself is thought through well they should give more examples or details about what they expect/accept. At least the first time there are questions that are leaving applicants in the dark.

They only recommend during the process to submitt the right document in the right quality else the application will be rejected. What is the right quality? How is it defined? There was NO indication about this...

  8. After our incapable management destroyed the swimming pool grout and some concrete (water is leaking through to the floor below the pool now and it is confirmed by a civil engineer that all damage is caused by low pH of around 4 for many years) the also not so smart committee decided to renovate the pool. They just plan to empty it, remove the algae that has grown between the tiles and regrout it with some cheap new grout. Problem solved?

Just from visual examination it can be seen that even behind the tiles there is some air or dissolved grout/concrete.

I would opt for some expoxy based grout but who wants to listen to some stupid farang?

  9. Last week I applied for a new Non-O single entry.

I am convinced to have submitted all the right documents but who knows if they are satisfied?

e.g. the bank statement they requested: I have an internet based bank. So there are no account statements on paper. I just took a screenshot with my name and the amount in it.

My wife confirmed in one single letter that she approves my visit and that she is iformed that I am coming. But they requested separate documents. I uploaded the same document twice then.

Anyone with some experience? Waiting now for an rection from their side...

  10. Unfortunately the story continues so here are some details:

A specialty restaurant from Poland wanted to hire two chefs from Myanmar. One after another. So in Poland they applied for the right papers including a work permit which they got. With these papers they got the intended visa includes a work permit for Poland from the Polish Embassy here in Bangkok. Then they wanted to get the second chef into Poland doing exactly the same thing. Things didn't go to plan this time despite the fact that exactly the same circumstances applied. Anyway, now they got another appointment at the embassy and of May but the 30 day extension they got at the immigration for that tourist visa run out two days ago.

The employer in Poland really wants to get the Chef into Poland. So, since there is no guarantee that the initially planned Cambodia trip would be successful the new idea is to get another extension of the extension.

I have my doubts here of course I am not sure. There was the time when you could get a seven day extension after the initial 30 day extension of a 60 day tourist visa.

Even if it would cost some money to get the help of some agent they would consider that way.
  11. A Myanmar citizen is on overstay from tomorrow. But she has a confirmed appointment at the Polish Embassy May 30. The idea is to let her fly to Cambodia for a few days and then back to Thailand. The Myanmar citizen has two vaccinations.

From my own research I found that she could stay up to 14 days in Cambodia and again 14 days in Thailand after coming back to Thailand.

Does anyone know of any possible problems with this set up?

Could she apply for a single tourist visa there?

Living here on and off for 10 years, the majority of the Thai I picked up was just naturally. Unless you isolate yourself and never go out or only socialize with other foreigners, after that long a time, it's usually natural to just start picking up the language. It also helps if you have a girlfriend/wife whose English is as good as your Thai and you teach/learn from each other just due to the necessity of communication.

I even worked here a few years (with WP) but everyone I had to deal with spoke english, my wife speaks english perfectly fine, no need to speak Thai for me, at all...
