    No

It's the time to buy gold.

It's up nearly 40% this year alone in sterling terms.

It is up in "sterling terms" just ONLY because the sterling lost a lot of value. So it will only gain value in sterling if the currency is continuing seeing lower grounds.

I Don't remember it being explained by anyone that you would lose as much as 20% of your income for expats.

Everyone who was interested in the matter knew. The exchange rate ahead of the vote correlated DIRECTLY with the polls ahead of the vote, and this for many weeks.

So where have you been the months before the vote?

  3. thx so much, I should have looked further around, already done the appointment

    now I filled out

    visa application and PP pictures

    and in addition have:

copies of PP and Visa for thailand

marriage certificate of thai wife and her id card and tabien baan copy

    flight details printed out

  4. I need a tourist visa to China as I am traveling to Shenzhen on November 21.

According to the latest information of the Embassy of China website I have to apply at the new visa service center.

I quote: "Starting from Sep 22th 2015, all the ordinary passport holders wishing to visit the mainland of China are requested to apply for visas, and all the applications are requested to apply for the Chinese Consular Authentication at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC). "

Anyone tried to apply at the Chinese embassy since then? I mean this application center is charging a nice extra fee.

It also says on the website of this application center that I have to make an appointment but I can't find the link.

It say's " Please click here to make an appointment for your visit to the Centre. Visiting the Centre without an appointment may cause a longer waiting time. (Template 2)

Please click here for the location of the Visa Centre and office working hours."

But there is no link, I tried to click in Google Chrome as well as in Firefox. There are definitely no links.

  5. I would imagine this is the responsibility of the unit owners. How can the condo manager keep up with condos that are rented.

My condo management reports them and I'm pretty sure they do it online like hotels do.

At my condo a renter is required to check in with the management and provide a copy of passport and rental agreement. A renter at a condo, unlike an owner, could be refused entry if they failed to cooperate with the requirement.

We just rented out one of our condominiums for three months to a foreign tenant.
Of course we do the TM 30, already sent out to the immigration.
Today our office called my wife that they need a copy of the passport of the tenant. Do they have the right to ask for a copy of the passport of the tenant? I would love to tell them: "none of your business. If you think there's a problem call the police or the immigration. As everything in our case is 100% legal I would not fear anything…"
Our management is highly corrupt and I do not trust them at all.
  6. Richard, please see the ROM website for details. The fee for marriage depends on the certain date you want to marry.

For us this fee was 200 Singapore dollar. To the Buddhist place we married as well as the solemnizer we donated about 100 Singapore dollar.

And of course one of you need to stay at least 15 days + the arrival day in Singapore before you can register for marriage.

  8. Some might be interested in the outcome of our marriage in Singapore:

After all everything was more easy than it looked like. Just follow the steps mentioned on the ROM website.

The only question left was if we need to show as mentioned under B) work/immigration passes. As I already thought we didn't need to show them since it was simply impossible for us.

Furthermore what gave me some head ache is that several couples who married there mentioned that foreigners with limited English language knowledge would need an official translator at the marriage process at ROM. Fortunately as my girl (Thai citizen) speaks and understands English very well we did not need an extra translator.

Another annoying thing was that the Thai Embassy requested a translation of the marriage certificate by a certified translator. After digging around we got the information that anyone with a university degree can translate the certificate.

For the certification process at the Thai Embassy only one of the couple need to be present in Singapore.

All other information required can be obtained from ROM website itself.

I don't care actually if my country of birth recognizes the marriage or not, but just for in case and as far as I know it's not wrong to get another stamp from your embassy on the certified true copy of the marriage certificate. I mean you are in Singapore then already.

In the beginning actually I only wanted to avoid all the required paperwork my home country insists on to get married in Thailand. And that worked out. We also thought to just go to Singapore and marry and that's it. Fast and convenient. But finally as we could get a perfect solemnizer as well as the best witnesses you can find (my girl cried all the time during the ceremony because of the really well-done speech of the solemnizer/witnesses) on the effort was worth to be done. And my wife is still happy, very happy that we married in Singapore.

  9. In the official information about required documents for changing the marital status you need to have:

    1. Translation of Singapore marriage certificate, which must be signed by the certified translator

    2. Notarized copy of the marriage certificate whereas the notarized copy must contain a seal, a stamp and a signature of an authorized firm

You might think so far so good. But by calling the Thai embassy in Singapore we got the additional information that the notarized copy of the marriage certificate must be translated by a certified translator as well. Which would not make any sense to us since the only difference is the seal/stamp/signature...) How can a company's name or address or signature be translated?

Another source that can be trusted but that we do not want to name here says also that this is a wrong information by the embassy. Just only the Singapore marriage certificate must be translated and signed by the certified translator, nothing else.

    Anyone with any experience?

  10. Just called the ROM in Singapore.

So if one did not work in Singapore there is no need to have been a resident or get approval from any government authority (even not from the from member Soihok mentioned MOM) in Singapore if you want to marry in Singapore.

Of course you need to have had a stay of at least 15 days In Singapore before filling the notice of marriage. I made sure that they understood what I meant and was assured that the immigration stamps in the passport are sufficient.

So the in my first post mentioned papers to bring under point

B ) Original passports and work/ immigration passes

is a little bit misleading. The only thing they want to see are our passports as we logically do not have work/immigration passes.

  11. The 300 kg of copper cables are of course not mine. As I mentioned they belong to the building. After 23 years they renovated the elevators and there are about 1000 kg of scrap metals as well as about 300 kg of cables.

Our manager has no idea what to do with it, the company doing the elevator renovations has no interest in this stuff.

And as I know from Germany that these things have some value I told them to find out how much we would get for all these things.

Of course I know many places where I could ask but I thought someone probably knows about the prices and the best place to go. At least in Germany they vary widely.

Actually I do not want to have anything to do with it, but when I hear that they simply want to throw it away I get simply crazy. They throw away money. And don't care about it. I think I never get used to this mai pen rai attitude.

  12. Need to be resident in Singapore or at least gain approval from the MOM.

Also, you may need to include the services of a registered translator if linguistically challenged.

Please only answers from people with actual knowledge or even better: own experience.

Because for example you do not need to be (permanent) resident in Singapore or at least gain approval from the MOM. Also this was not the question...

Of course I will ask them by myself but experience sometimes is helpful as well...

  13. We're going to marry in Singapore.

According to the ROM website we fulfill all requirements.

On your Appointment at ROM for Verification of Documents and Statutory Declaration:
    What to bring?

    a) Summary of your Notice of Marriage

B ) Original passports and work/ immigration passes

    c) Photocopy of NRIC (SC/SPR) or Passport (Foreigner) of 2 witnesses

    d) Signed 'Invitation to Solemnize a Marriage' form

We have everything but work/ immigration passes as we neither work nor immigrated...

So I simply guess that this does not apply to us? Applies only for people with work or the ones who moved there, right?

  14. "Thailand could face its worst drought in more than a decade...The funds will be used to install water pumps and provide mobile water tanks in affected areas..."

Only forgot one little detail. If it's the worst drought in more than a decade, where will they get to water to pump and fill the water tanks? blink.png

Insiders know: They are going to propel it upstream.

  15. Really feel sorry for these people.

What a life, what a struggle to survive they have.

Why have we made this beautiful planet of ours such an ugly place to live in?

    We?

Yes, "we". When good men fail to act, evil prevails. When good men refuse to get involved, evil prevails. When good men refuse to acknowledge that inaction is not just condoning malfeasance, but abetting it, evil prevails.

Evil prevails because we are comfortable and are afraid to risk our comfort.

Sip your latte and accept responsibility for it....

As resident foreigners what responsibility can we exert as we can't vote and our opinions carry no weight, indeed expressing such can bring serious consequences.

there are many things you can do.

You can visit and support families locked up in horrible Thai prisons for years just for not having the right stamp in their passport. Support does not mean to invest a lot of money. When visiting them, for example once per week you can offer a meal or some pens and paper for the children.

In Bangkok there are two groups doing this twice a week. They are doing this for many years now. No one ever had to face any consequences.

The opposite is true: the public eye on it, also the involvement of an US lawyer brought a few enhancements at least for the children.

So, Nongkhaikid, what you bring is just a lame excuse...

  16. six Turkish illegal immigrants might have suffered from stress after being detained for four months and tried to escape.

4 mounth in a thail jail for this matter is a bit exagerated and not too human

    coffee1.gif

In the immigration detention center here in Bangkok some are held for several years for this sort of "crime".

Most sorry I feel for the North Koreans who sit in their practicality for life since Thailand work together with with the North Korean government and agreed not to let them have access to any kind of help, not from a lawyer and not from the UN....
