  1. Phuket also! Had a legal license, legal bike & legal helmet. The cop told me the same BS about not being over in the left, I pointed out that the street is 1 way so all lanes are left, and that in the left of left we have around 10 illegally parked cars which I must go around in order to proceed forward... Wasnt impressed and told me, he will be watching me very carefully! as he can remember my helmet & bike....<deleted> is this? so today I take the wifes bike & spare helmet :)

  2. I loved this little bike! Perfect machine for Phuket and for my needs! Felt very light and nimble, and more than enough power for my daily commute. At 220k though, she is an expensive toy

  3. Was at Phuket bike week show yesterday and had the chance to take a, very short, test ride on the KTM 200 and i loved it!

The guy told me we are getting a showroom here in Phuket within the next few weeks, and a model will be available for test riding. He also mentioned that the production is potentially being switched to Indonesia :) My questions are....

Will this new production for the KTM200 get a lower tax from the Asean agreement?

Does anyone here have a 200 or have a decent longer term exoerience of the bike? I rode perhaps 500metres

    Is anyone sellling a 200???

  4. Reconciliation................who wants it? The people. the majority of the ordinary people do but some of the poilitical players seem to be more interested fueds which sustain their own power in Thai society. Time to put your differences aside and work for the country first.

Question is are any of them big enough to do it?

    NO

    or was this Rhetorical?

  5. Every item that has materials and labour added has VAT (Value Added Tax). In many countries that tax is built in to the price and is hidden in the price. Say for an example a manufacturer or workshop purchases 100 baht worth of silver to make a product in Thailand. The products real worth without the material is 93 baht, unless the place where it was purchased adds VAT onto the pice. The manufacturer then designs, casts, and finishes his product and then sells it to the distributor or wholesate for 300 baht for example. His price will either include the VAT of approximately 21 baht, or he will add 21 baht which is VAT to the 300 baht, thus charging 321 baht. The end user in most countries pays the tax without realizing it. If the goods are exported then the VAT is allowed as a refund when the merchandise is leaving the country. In North America sales taxes and the Goods and Services Taxes are added on to the sales ticket price therefore not representing the ticket price.

The only way of avoiding part of the VAT is purchasing items in an underground economy.

What like from the Wombles? they are all underground

  6. Mr. Verdickt fled his country to hide out in Thailand, establishing a Harley Davidson gang with his friends calling it "MAD DOG"

Obviously a man who understands the phrase " Keeping a low profile"

Actually since marrying and starting a family my priorities have changed and I'm now the leader of the Khon Kaen chapter of the Mio Automatic riding " Slightly Annoyed Kittens MCC"

    Can anyone join?

  7. "diseases" - wear a condom, seriously some hotels don't seem to worry about lack of tourists. One five star hotel is still asking 7,000 baht a night for its rooms in December (on Agoda). --- I thought there would be reduced prices on hotels.

Its a Thai thing.. during the military fracas a thai based hotelier where I regularly stayed told me in response to question of why room rates had gone up at this time.. "we have too as not as many customers now"... sort of a reverse supply-demand that to me gave me a little insight into the insular Thai mentality.

This is a huge problem here in SE Asia within the industry. Dont look at bottom line, but simply the profit on a micro scale!!! But the same can be said of many international hotels, as I consistantly see bonus's and KPI based on average room rate - over actual profit/rooms sold

  8. What absolute rubbish!! The hotels mentioned are NOT, so called tourist hotels as many reading the article would understand. These are very much local hotels for local "tourists", dont belive me then call the Rama Garden itself and try to find an English speaking employee!

Occupancy at 4 & 5 star hotels is substancially down, to that end I agree. This initail hit was due to the ongoing campaign of misinformation from the Thai Govt, which left many toursits with an unclear picture of the situation. People simply didnt know where was flooded and where was not, or if they could even make it into the 'city'. This was further propogated , from some internatinal news reporting agencies, by the ariel shots of the water beseiged airport - Don Muang! NOT Suvarnabhumi, and the flooded areas surrounded? Shrimp Farms!!!

Toursim is down, due to the fact that people chose to go elsewhere, how many of us can put our annual vacation on hold for a few weeks in order to wait and see? I for one could not, as my employer would not be happy! Tourism is also down, I believe, due to the continuous campaign of calamity Thailand feels it must subject itself to. Natural disasters aside, when willl the Govt and indeed the nation as a whole say enough! and lets see what can be done to move forward in a postivie dignifieed manner!

Thats my morning rant done :)

  9. I'm not exactly a fan of both sides and I think that bringing Thaksin back will not be in anyway beneficial to Thailand. It's a start of another crisis.

I agree I think both sides are as bad as one another.

The place has never been out of crisis since Thaksin left, now he has the backing of the Military, the Police, the Government and more importantly his X-wife. Who I remind you has got the rest of the cash and they will probably get back together. :whistling: I say the place cant get any worse, bring old matey back.B)

Are you being glib here, or what? Indeed "the place" can get worse ... much, much worse.

Sure it can, "he' can come back and begin the puch for nuclear energy AGAIN! You think this is a crisis, just wait for the day someone forgets somehting in a nuclear powerplant!

  10. Around 70 people also gathered at a major floodwall in northern Don Mueang district, watched by about 30 police officers, to ensure the authorities did not repair a gap they had opened to allow water to drain away from badly flooded areas.

    Inmates taking over the asylum.

Live a week in a flooded area then come back to post again. :whistling:

Could live 20 years in a flooded area and it wouldn't change my statement as it is factually accurate and impossible to argue about if you understand the term.

+1 and in a flooded area

  11. I'm amazed there hasn't been more violence, given the conditions some people have had to endure for weeks on end.

Now, 2 villages in Nakhon Pathom have gone toe-to-toe after one side tore down a barrier which allowed water to escape their village and go rushing into the neighbouring village. The second village then moved in to repair the barrier, until the 2 sides came to blows and the cops had to be called. Sad but not surprising.

Me too, I am amazed at the lack of violence, so far..............................
