Yep 160 mph is fast enough. ????
And kph too, that's when I get nervous on my Versys 650. It's pretty smooth at that speed on a straightaway though. One issue I have is that the Thai motorists are not expecting a motorcycle to be going much faster that 60 so they'll will cut or turn in front of you. Good thing I have ABS and ride defensively. .

Kids used to enjoy going to this place, and it was a favorite destination for school field trips. It was starting to show some wear and tear though. It's a loss for Chiang Mai.

How many people chose Chiangmai to live when it did not have the life squeezed out of it?
I did and upon seeing whats happening now, I wouldn't mind putting up with some additional traffic and that wailing karaoke machine down the street if I see people working, feeding their families and me being able to enjoy the amenities that CM has to offer. I'm not a villager and it's grim out there.

Just used it today the old in and out, one vehicle in the window when I arrived. Handed the IO my application and passport he handed me a blank form, I wasn't sure if he wanted it filled out or for next time it turned out for next time. handed back all the paper work he didn't staple in the new day to report form.
When you arrive they will have a barrier across the drive way if they are full of parked cars, just show the guard your application form and in you go. Make a left turn go to eastside of lot make a right turn and you cannot miss it. Hope they keep it open after all this mess is over.
Had about the same experience yesterday. The queue took under 10 minutes. Hope they keep it. Lots of people at immigration as a whole, the parking lots across the street were full.

Wonder how they will monitor if arriving by road. Any roadblocks on Hwy 11?
Yes, there's one at the Saraphi PTT station going inbound. There's also another one at the Doi Saket police station on Hwy 118.

I've used Express VPN and it has the best speeds for streaming. You'll have to hunt through their USA IP addresses to find one that's not blacklisted. Great service and easy set up.

I ran into this 2FA verification issue with Capitol One and my other financial accounts. Problem is that many of these virtual phone number services don't support receiving short number sms that these bank/credit cards use. This one does : http://anveo.com/enter.asp It's cheap but the website is hard to navigate. It works fine with Capitol One and most of the others but not all of them.

Up here in Chiang Mai, the amount of western tourists seem about normal with the venues that cater to them being quite busy. What is noticeable is the missing tour buses and the throngs of Chinese tourists at the main tourist attractions and Nimmanhaemin. It's actually more pleasant around here but I do feel for the people who became so reliant on just the Chinese group tour segment.

Thanks Guys looks like the E Visa is the answer.
The approval time for the eVisa is longer than the 3 days stated on their website. It took us about 6 days before we received our approval recently. It was easy though. The approval letter can be had quicker if you're tight on time.

I read another post about someone having to return to CM immigration between 07:00 - 08:00 to obtain a queue number for his retirement extension. This is appears to be a new development.

I've seen banana trees planted in neat rows to make land appear to be for agricultural use. Zero maintenance.

And it's interesting that one of my bank accounts will NOT allow access if I AM using a vpn.
My bank always makes me go through a CAPTCHA authentication. They can detect a shared IP address. The solution is to use a VPN service with a dedicated IP which is expensive. My reason to use a VPN is to get around the streaming services geo restrictions. Also a must when using an open WiFi spot.

Yes, I've renewed several passports at the U.S. Consulate in Chiang Mai. Go to their website for more info and to make an appointment. You can arrange to pick up your new passport at the consulate when it's ready. In my case it usually takes about a week from the application date and it was all straightforward. .

The treaty is not dead although there's some in Thai government would like to see it go. An "Amity" company cannot own land, only a "Thai" company can. We Americans cannot own land in Thailand.

The other newspaper which can't be mentioned is running a similar article but also quotes 'lane splitting ban's' for big bikes - which would potentially be a nightmare.
Of course, all of the suggestions seem completely unenforceable. Imagine telling Somchai who rides down the pavement that he can't ride in the big-bike lanes, besides, there's not enough space as there is.
Allow big bikes on the express ways (600cc+).
Remove slow carts from the streets.
Encourage courteous driving (not blocking box junctions etc).
Penalise dangerous riding & driving / running lights etc more severely.
Stamp out DUI with strong campaigns and firm and unwavering penalisation.
Ensure anyone on the road has full insurance.
Agree with this post, it's war against the big bikes by banning lane splitting for big bikes only. Lane splitting can be done safely, just penalize it if done recklessly. Two classes of motorcycle licenses is long over due here, hopefully the class for larger bikes allows use of motorways and tunnels.

They should at least allow larger motorcycles, >300 cc to use the under and over passes.

Varee's English Program is supposed to limit their class sizes 35 students. Some of the other bilingual schools have very large class sizes. Varee EP program is within your budget.

Its widely known that Motorcycles are not permitted on the express ways, also signs.
How did he get on the Expressway? you have to pass a toll booth.
With all of that said - its about time 'big bikes' are permitted on the Expressway, but I'm not sure 'Thailand' is mature enough for that.
By 'big bikes' I mean 600cc and up, something which can comfortably keep up with traffic traveling at 120-150kmh (yes I know the limit is 120kmh) -
I have a 300cc BWM, it can go 120kmh - but its not comfortable much faster than that, thus IMO is not suitable for an expressway.
Of course, the issue here in Thailand is that if only 600cc + bikes are permitted on the expressways, any bike would end up using it. No one would (does) follow the law and it would be too difficult for the Tollway staff to differentiate, its not their job to differentiate - the end result would be the migration of the normal road chaos onto the expressways.
It'd be easier to differentiate if they used a different color plate on the big bikes, say 500cc+. Also, a good idea to require an upgraded motorcycle license to operate a big bike.
