  1. Never seen a speed camera in cm so wouldnt know what to look for

How do you know it wasnt a mobile one or just some guy on the side of the road taking pics with his phone?

Did you even get a pic?

I got one a few months ago on the long straight downhill stretch from Lampang into Lamphun. The cop was standing by the side of the road with the speed camera in hand so it was no surprise when the letter arrived in the post - a pic of the truck and a closeup of the license plate and a speed readout (126 kph for all you TVF queens to chastise me about). No mention of the speed limit and the fine was also 400 baht.

I got one from there about a month ago going 122kph. Didn't see the cop though but my wife told me where that speed trap is. Pretty sneaky being on the downhill stretch.

  2. Anybody know whats going on ???

Is today the 1st day of school or something or is everyone lining up to see the site of the fire. As I write this traffic in front of my place is at a standstill not going in either direction.

Yes, today is the first day of government schools and of the private schools that haven't already started. Traffic is everywhere this morning.
  3. more Bull.. its all smoke and mirrors which comes down to an increase as usual ...oil is down over 30% from last yearblink.png

I paid US$2.40 (about 79 baht) per US gallon for regular unleaded gas today. That's down about 25% from recent prices. There are about 3.8 liters in a US gallon so its easy to do the math.

This price I paid includes reasonable state and federal road taxes.

People keep telling me that Thailand living is cheap. Rent is cheap. Cheap Thai food is cheap. Many other things like clothes, cars, Western quality food are shockingly expensive.

Thailand is getting as bad with taxes including import taxes as many Western countries.

Yeah, something is up. We're not seeing any real price reductions at the pump. Fuel taxes used to be fairly low here a few years ago.

  4. Does the OP really think this is a timely warning?

Who knows from which country he originates but he should be ashamed if it's in the West.

If he is British he should hang his head in shame.

Drink driving has been castigated legally and more importantly, socially, for decades.

Why should he be ashamed for warning us that the Thai authorities are finally getting serious about drink driving? If it gets a few more drunk drivers/riders off the road or dissuades us from ordering that one more beer before we hit the road, that's a good thing...IMO.

  5. My next door neighbour recently bought a new BMW and has already been fined twice for driving with fog lights on, which he is doing to draw attention to himself - "look at me everybody". He wasn't happy when I told him that on UK roads his status symbol is just another 'rep mobile'.

Can anyone say what the law is on Fog Lights ? Is it, no fog no lights on, or is it a bit more complicated ?

Does it mean the two factory fitted lights below the main headlights, I call them driving lights.

I would really like to know, new car has them factory fitted front and rear.

    ?????

I hope they are not outlawing those LED daytime running lights that many new cars are now fitted with. They actually make driving safer, IMO.

  6. Just have to laugh at the whole thing Viet Namese food being claimed to be better in America than the real McCoy in Viet Nam.

I have traveled in Vietnam quite a bit and even lived there for a while. The best Vietnamese that I have ever had was a little hole-in-the-wall on California street near Polk in San Francisco in the 1980s - before I had visited Vietnam the first time. Of course, it didn't taste anything like any food I ever tried in Vietnam, once I finally got there, so now I wonder what it actually was. tongue.png

I remember that tiny place in San Francisco, used to get a line out the door. Very tasty five spice chicken.

There's a place on the middle ring road called pho' anh that's run by a Vietnamese fellow that lived in the U.S. for many years. Food reminds me of the Vietnamese food that I used to eat in SF. I believe they have those sandwiches.

  7. Rivers are not flooding. It's just CM is experiencing drainage problems from the neglect of their infrastructure. .

Now that its started raining in earnest,i am sure they will realize that

the drains need cleaning,as usual something happens,THEN something

gets done about it,been proactive does not seem to be on the agenda

    here.

    regards Worgeordie

I have seen them cleaning drainage ditches for a couple months already.

It's not total neglect. There's just not the budget to finance the larger projects required to address the areas that seem to flood every year. Hopefully, the publicity the flooding is getting will bring in some more resources to these areas.

  8. Are you sure that you got a new ninety-day report date? Some other posters and, I think, ubonjoe have said that an extension of stay is not the same as a ninety-day report. I could be wrong. Just checking.

It's not and yes I have.

I have seen one or two other posts by members saying that immigration synchronised their 90-day notification with the new extension. Good of the Hua Hin office to do this.

Sure wish Chiang Mai immigration did this, it took me over 2 1/2 hours to do my 90 day at CM two weeks ago. Last year I obtained a Re-Entry permit at HH immigration. Pretty interns in front helped me with the paper work and I was on my way in 15 minutes with the permit. Big positive for the Hua Hin office.

  9. The need for social services in Thailand is dire

Hell, they dont even have sidewalks that meet

Which is why there is a need for some property taxes, as long as it's properly and fairly implemented. I hated paying property taxes when I lived in the states, but I did get to enjoy reasonably funded schools that are within walking distance that are free, libraries, sidewalks, street cleaning on a regular basis, professional emergency services and many other services that are lacking in Thailand.

  10. Sorry but this place Thannon Kaeo Narawat is not listed with Google maps, so i can't find it. Is it a street, a shopping mall, a bus terminal ...? And how will i know if i do find it?

It's Keao Narawat Road. The road changes name from Tai Wang to Keao Narawat upon crossing the bridge over the Ping River.

  11. Paid THB250 for 18 holes at the (New) SanSai course last week. Has a driving range too. The old San Sai Sai course AKA, Golf Avenue is now gone.

Can you play without a caddy at the new SanSai course?

    Yes.

  13. At first there were no post offices around this area, now there are 3

sub offices,RimPing,Meechok market and the one mentioned above,

The one in RimPing is suspect and charges more commission than the

other 2,have used the one in Meechoke market ,for delivery in Thailand

and overseas and have had no problems, not that i would send anything

very important or valuable this way, but it saves driving to nearest official

P.O.and sometimes waiting in a queue ,so they are welcome additions

    to the area.

    regards Worgeordie

There's also one in Tesco Lotus across the street from Mee Chok Plaza.
