  1. Did anyone expect anything different?
  2. Certainly not a new initiative. If they use common sense they will hand this package of goodies out in return for the 300 baht entrance fee so it seems thaat tourists will be getting something for their money....if that ever happens!
  3. Thai jail sentences range from the ridiculous to the even more ridiculous!
  4. I won't quote it but there' one particular paragraph in the original article that says all you need to know. The one about his brother!
  5. Another good reason to base myself in the UK and visit Thailand as a tourist for a few months.
  6. They all finish their term of duty next year. Maybe he'll be questioned then. But this is Thailand and who knows what might happen?
  7. I read this story just before going to sleep last night. I thought at the time there would be a lot of interesting comments when I wake up. I wasn't disappointed! I think the main reasons that Thailand doesn't follow a lot of countries and introduce a visible room tax are 1. There are so many unlicensed hotels and Airbnb operations 2. Half of the tax collected would end up in the hotel owners'pockets as they only declare a portion of actual guests. (this happens already with existing room taxes paid to local governments).
  8. So they identified 114 illegal firearm suppliers in a matter of a couple of days. So why didn't they do something about it earlier? The whole police system is one big joke (pun not intended)
  9. I'd prefer them to get rid of the afternoon non-selling times rather than extend the nightime hours.....though wouldn't complain if they amended both.
  10. Amazing what makes news sometimes. I have encountered a few people who have forgotten where they are staying and on more than one occasion have helped them. I partiicularly remember one man who left his luggage as he was too early to check in and was walking around in the Phuket heat wearing an overcoat! No idea how we found his hotel but somehow we dod.
  11. Trying to move a 1960s style lottery into the digital age is failing. Time for a complete revamp of the entire system to bring it into the 21st century.
  12. Made my mind up that I won't return to Thailand on a full time basis when my daughter finishes her education here in the UK. I'll spend a few months in Thailand on a tourist visa but no more retirement extensions.
  13. Have they been using the TAT calculator to work this out? How can a 100 baht ticket with odds of 999,999-1 pay out 180m? Plus other prizes.
  14. Successful job done by the raiders of Big Joke's home. Outcome doesnt matter now.
  15. I saw this article the other day. I think it is based on skewed data. The official population of Phuket is based on those that are registered as living in the province. Most Thais people that live and work in Phuket are registered in other provinces, not to forget the many thousands of Burmese migrant workers. The same goes for the other Thai provinces high up in the list. Other countries don't use this registration system to record official populations in particular areas, and I'm sure this is the reason for Thai resort areas faring so poorly. I'll also add that it's an odd method of defining overcrowding anyway. It would mean that cities with large populations would never appear on the list, though many are undoubtedly more overcrowded than many of the places on that list.
  16. Anyone spot the deliberate mistake? ????
  17. Will the influential figures in Buriram appear on the blacklist?
  18. Withh the appointed cabinet, a corruption crackdown is impossible.
  19. A whole list of remote working spaces. Surely perfect for a bust by the "work permit police".
  20. Am I reading this correctly? The numbers were down partly due to tighter screening, meaning more Chinese were denied entry. Yet those denied a visa for whatever reason can now enter Thailand anyway? Seems an odd move to me but when has anything in Thailand ever been thought through properly?
  21. So, nothing to do with past dodgy practices then?
  22. I wonder what the usual retirment age is where you come from? In the UK it's now 66, rising to 57. 60 is too young, especially for most government employees. MPs are the exception of course!
  23. The easiest way to maintain the workforce is to stop compulsory retirement at 60.
  24. Nothing in the main tourist areas of course.
