Relocating to Chiang Mai, worried about burning season
khunphil replied to DonniePeverley's topic in Chiang Mai
To be clear, this is rarely every day for 2 months. Also, many of the foreigners who are complaining, are anyway living indoor, as this is really hot as this time of the year, and they prefer to close all windows and stay with air-cond... So this should not bother them a lot ... If they are going out for dinner, this will be in an air-cond restaurant also. The most affected are the one who like to live windows opened all year long, never use air, and love to run morning or evening ... -
Relocating to Chiang Mai, worried about burning season
khunphil replied to DonniePeverley's topic in Chiang Mai
Do not forget that pollution can vary from worst to best in just some hours, after some rain and wind. So, it is never easy to be sure what day it can be a charm. I remember one year, on a weekend, I drove to Phayao, near the lake, as the situation was a little bit better there ... and calling friends in Chiangmai, they told me that they had rain, and the sky and mountains were beautiful π€¬ -
Relocating to Chiang Mai, worried about burning season
khunphil replied to DonniePeverley's topic in Chiang Mai
Bangkok has a lot of historical data and as you can see, the "good days season" is quiet the same as Chiangmai . I would say the main difference is when this is bad , Chiangmai can be REALLY bad (maybe not much this year, but very true in 2024). -
Relocating to Chiang Mai, worried about burning season
khunphil replied to DonniePeverley's topic in Chiang Mai
Having lived in Chiangmai for over 25 years, Iβd say it all depends on your concernsβand your familyβs. You: During the worst days of the smoky season, staying indoors with the air conditioner and an air purifier solves most of the problem. But yes, it's not fun. If you're still working, it depends on your office environment. I keep an air purifier at work, just in case. Your family/wife: If she works, she'll face the same issues as you. If she doesn't care, then you might have a problem. Kids: Some schools have air conditioning, some have air purifiers, some change the filters when they're full, and some even remember to turn the purifiers on π. They rarely close, and they wonβt cancel Sports Dayβeven if itβs smokyβbecause hey, the kids are wearing masks anyway! The biggest issue I face is the typical βmai pen raiβ (never mind) attitude. For example, coming home to find all the windows wide open while the air purifiers are running shows the problem isnβt really understoodβor taken seriously. But... This Is Thailand (TIT). If you're open to traveling down southβreally south, like Surat Thani or furtherβduring the bad weeks or months, and youβre fine enjoying a quiet life alone or with your wife, that could be a good option. This year though, even places like Hua Hin and Bangkok have had quite a few bad days, so itβs not an easy choice. If you plan to stay here year-round, the smoke and how itβs handled can definitely be a challenge. Good luck! -
Could have been a nice picture ... π https://weather.tmd.go.th/lmpLoop.php Not more not less than past days me thinking ... I am just following the river level π Phil

.. hmm .. minus 15% or 20% would be very interesting as entry level models would be now definitely cheaper than ICE ... Phil.

Are you really that emotionally involved .. or are you just having fun trolling ? First Thread, 235 answers/remarks/questions/sarcasms ... and not a single reply from you... and you are doing it all again . I have read threads from some nice guys here, with quite the same problem, trying to justify themselves, or understand what they should do ... but you ? no ... 1 threads, 40 lines ... then ready to write the next one.

City beach resort hotel - good for families?
khunphil replied to rocket2's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
Been there ... couple with kid .. perfect location .. nice swimming pool ... easy to park (for you or Grab), 5-10mn waking distance from "no so nice" beach ... restaurant available inside the hotel. Not a super fancy hotel but no headache when installed. Don't choose the suite, if you want a real balcony (to dry clothes for example). (2,500thb/night seeems expensive during low season) -
Sometimes, it is the family who is asking, and not her, and she will have no choice. If you say NO, she will loose face (you don't die for it... but you may look for another bf). I remember some ex family , as one day me and the miss got an argument, telling her in Thai ... "Don't loose this one" ! Lower the amount, 5-10K is generous already, if any expense comes up, ask for the bill to pay and show it to other people, and if this comes up regularly, so you know you are being used. You must keep control. A good point someone asking is " How much money did you show her before," by the way you are looking, Apple watch, car, nice dinner (500thb/meal), nice condo, and so on ... If she showed the pictures to the family, they would not ask if the food was good π... but would be more interested about the size of your wallet ! Good luck, that hurts ... but as we say ... POF

That s a good speed ! I usually enjoy the scenery and take 1 more hour π By curiosity, when you arrive at destination, do you still have some power left ?
-
Good as there is one closer to our condo, not sure they got charger, I will check out soon. Thanks
-
Sorry, bad English, I was asking for insurance premieum, I found it. 15K for Mazda 2 and 35K for BYD Dolphin. Thanks for information anyway, useful.
-
Do you know (sorry to ask) the premium he is paying ?
-
Yeah.. I saw that promotion ... Actually right now, you can have it around 460K without any freebies. Compared with BYD Dolphin or other EV entry car, as I have no charger facility in my condo, neither at work, and knowing that the insurance premium is, I think, much more than a Mazda 2 Prime ... Don't get me wrong, I am pro EV (and I don't own one). The money I am going to save without gas, will it really cover the expenses difference ? I am just wondering, no here to light up the war ! Maybe better waiting 1 or 2 years, to move to a house where I have a charger, would be a better idea, and the prices and the market would be more mature and stable with even better range and technology. I don't know if some of you are same me, but what makes you decide to choose ICE or EV. I am not interested about the one who got solar, or free charge somewhere ... thanks. By the way, we are Mazda owners for 15 years, quite happy about this. Driving 6d/week to work is around 60km per day (80% highway with some traffic). Charging would be at a PTT station, 1km from condo, maybe ever Sunday. What do you think ?

power grid failure / blackout in spain
khunphil replied to save the frogs's topic in Political Soapbox
Yep. I just finished watching and well played TV shows last week ... coincidence π This reflects quite exactly what you lived. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Day_(American_TV_series) -
I understand this, but do you always check before if the charging station is available, or do you stop wherever you want and are lucky 90% of the time. With my ICE, the only thing I check is if they have Amazon coffee branch ... π Just asking for information.

Hi, Juts use Grab, 75THB, go to Takiep Beach ! 10 mn drive. Very nice sandy beach, umbrella & chairs, beach restaurant, beach coffee/coktail bar, wild, the best spot in Hua Hin. And no horses every 2mn walking in front of you. (1 or 2 are still around) Phil.

Quake Jolts Thai Tourism: Rising Concerns Over Safety
khunphil replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Isn't it supposed to be the opposite? Shouldn't the construction law ensure that buildings can withstand an earthquake since the 2000s?" -
For my part, i needed to click twice to get the answer accepted. The 1st time, the click was not registered. I don't think you cannot NOT PASS ... this is not a real test ... just have to watch until the end ... and answer some questions which are not really related to the video you were watching ... Yes, get the QR code, this will save you 2h there ! Also, you need a medical certificate, as there are 2 different URL to know the document to show, and one does not have Medical Certificate included. I did mine in Rajavej, 15mn, sign a paper, 150thb if I remember correctly. Phil

Why do they never stop at Zebra Crossings?
khunphil replied to Robert_Smith's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
And of course you have some/many foreigners, to be fair, who are saying : "If the Thai can do, why not me ". OK, maybe not the majority, but they are often the same ones who keep saying "Thai do not respect anything" π What surprises me is : - 1 Thailand has nice roads, often well marked, not same a 3rd class country. - 2 Even if you are educated, as 5 or 7 years in high school/master degree, the way they are driving often does not improve ... well, as they are Hi-so now, they can do. - 3 Thai people as pedestrian, in everyday life, will be the ones helping you, smiling to you, try to let you go first if you are older ... Put them on a motorbike or in a car, they act opposite ! Sad... Drive safe, stop 20m before pedestrian crossing, open your warning lights, and try to warn the pedestrian if you see someone fast coming. If you stop too close, this is a death trap for the pedestrian. -
Why do they never stop at Zebra Crossings?
khunphil replied to Robert_Smith's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
You can... if no other car, and no pedestrian crossing ... but of course... not many care ! -
This was just a question π I always do it all by myself and never used any agency, agent, add to help me in 25 years . I am just working and if I could have the chance to do it 100% online, it was saving me a day taken of my holidays. I understand it is a NO π Thanks.

Bangkok's Air Crisis Escalates: Fourth Worst Globally for Pollution
khunphil replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Well, it is true that the figures in the north are not perfect (PM2.5 : 27 this morning in Chiangmai) but we are so so far from what will/should happen in some weeks/months here that I personally feel quite OK now. A little bit too dramatic for the northern province. -
Not at all. Just the dlt thread on motor form discussion Renewing your driverβs licence online With your training certificate ready, you can proceed with the renewal process. While some aspects still require a physical visit to the DLT office in certain provinces, the renewal process has largely moved online, making things simpler for expats. That's why I ask specifically for cnx province...
