  1. Yes, it has been that way for years, usually getting a head shave and saffron robe for a month can be a shield for some quite serious crimes. It comes across as laughable to many a Western mindset, but works with the locals. It's a bit like the hero worship of mobster types, they are responsible for brutal and cruel murders, but hey, they love and take care of their mothers!
  2. I usually expect that just as high season rolls in each and every year!
  3. Yes, it may well not be the tax payment itself that is the worry, but yet another basis to extort.
  4. No problem.....marriage extensions are quite different to the regular Non-Imm-O based retirement ones.
  5. Happy to be there Mr 'Get your facts wrong'......
  6. Mongers in girly bars drinking beer and fraternizing with the girls.... now I see old men in the kitchen wearing aprons and faffing about with milk and sugar!
  7. What problems has he made wrt retirement extensions? I don't find retirement extensions to be particularly difficult to achieve.. a bit tiresome that I have to go down there once a year..... The scariest proposal is that of taxation of Expats and he was not involved in that idea.
  8. Heavens, a few weeks ago we had a long thread on making one's own yoghurt. My image of the Expats in Thailand is shifting fast!
  9. So now he is responsible for decisions and actions of the traffic police? Previously he was making decisions on retirement extension requirements!
  10. Presuming they can get them up in the air..... don't see a line of pushback tugs pulling 747s down the motoroway working well.
  11. Shhh, tax first, higher extension requirements later!
  12. The Nigerians must feel safe enough to stay, confident in the ineptitude of the police, or maybe their ability to bribe their way out of trouble.... Perhaps the issue is more common than we learn of.....
  13. I believe his predecessor also forewent his PM stipend.... so in good company!
  14. You don't know what you are talking about.....the comment was relating to retirement extensions. 400k all year round (800k for part of it) is one of the options for retirement extension qualification. Alternatives being 65,000 transferred every month, combination, or Embassy letter if you can get it.
  15. Maybe they don't need it. Are things so great in Las Vegas because of OTT gambling, or would we say they would be truly awful without it?
  16. You seem to be very rude to those whose opinions differ. Weed shop owners displaying medical certificates is as comical as the rub and tug venues displaying their Health Massage Signs......
  17. Many years ago tax certificates were required for people who had been ini country, presumably over 6 months. My pals passport was blocked in USA because his ex was disputing the alimony!
  18. Oh, so that is why they are going to complete the Pattaya sports stadium.... World Cup is coming here!
  19. I was a bit shocked to buy a bag of mixed nuts to see they were 400 baht when I thought about 360 the week before. Things go up in chunks here! Imported stuff going up likely due to a weaker baht.....
  20. I suppose all those staff playing on their phones, hiding in aisles can now claim they are in training for the Olympics!
  21. Well I was going to say every week, but it is more than that..... although for once, we actually have had some rain!
