1. Here are two blogs that provide very insightful background on police and mafia activities on Koh Tao.

http://mikeestravels.com/2014/09/25/the-dark-side-of-thailands-island-paradise/

http://drugsinthailand.blogspot.com/2009/06/my-koh-tao-story.html

The first is good general information about the 5 mafia families there, while the second is a chilling personal experience that illustrates police involvement in the drug trade, extortion and setting up patsies.

Thanks for posting the best outline of these murders and background into the Koh Toa mafia.

2. I dont know why people dont just film them taking bribes... would be real easy to just film the BIB on one of their routine stop and bribe checkpoints they put up at random...

Camera zooms are great these days and with a bit of ingenuity even a voice recording wouldnt be hard to get.

Slap them up on you tube and facebook.......... bet if it caught on there would be hundreds going up in the first few weeks

Thais do it already....Check Thai forums and facebook-sites. Every day Thai people distribute clips of bribery....and much more crazy stuff....

Do you have some links for us???

3. I drove through Issan in July/August and the police checks were everywhere. One guy was trying really hard to get me on some thing. When he found zero chance of tea money from me he started quizzing my Thai friend about the stuff in the back of the pick up. Asked for receipts too. When we presented them he was pissed. Waved us on without pocketing any bahts.

4. Proverbs 24:20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

Evil men will be rewarded, one way or the other. God will reward wicked men with grief, pain, and death. He will cut their lives off and send their souls down to eternal torment.

This verse is the second half of a proverb. Here is the first half: Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked (Pr 24:19). You should not worry or be,..,.............

Why do people feel compelled to quote their fairy stories? We are discussing a serious issue and the last thing we need is this tripe. Many kids had invisible friends but most of them grew !

5. There have been a few polls made by Thaivisa that cover demographics

This is the 2014 one - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/706861-expat-survey-finds-74-happy-with-life-in-thailand/

This is the 2011 one - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/468108-expat-survey-shows-84-happy-in-thailand-thaksin-not-popular/

Thank you totster. My request was for knowlege of percentage by age, percentage by citizenship, percentage by age and by gender. Things like that.  While opinions on internet providers and phone companies and what sort of visa a person has may also be of interest to some, it is not what most people think of when they say "demographics" (although I suppose techically they might be some sort of dempgraphics)

For example, Wikipedia defines  Demographics as the quantifiable statistics of a given population. Demographics are also used to identify the study of quantifiable subsets within a given population which characterize that population at a specific point in time.

Commonly examined demographics include gender, age, ethnicity, knowledge of languages, disabilities, mobility, home ownership, employment status, and even location. Demographic trends describe the historical changes in demographics in a population over time (for example, the average age of a population may increase or decrease over time). Both distributions and trends of values within a demographic variable are of interest. Demographics can be viewed as the essential information about the population of a region and the culture of the people there.

Also, I don't like to rely on polls as this is skewed as it only represents the respondents.  If it was mandatory for users to specify demographic information in their profiles (already asked for as below but not mandatory), TV could easily know who their real audience is.  This could be made non-public by the member.

6. Thanks to all who replied but I am not interested in running a poll.  My query was to the Admins who I ecpect would have an accurate picture of member demographics.  Polls only show what respondents say whereas I was chasing a more accurate overview.

A little disappointed here.
Lot's of answers about my flag being lower or higher than the Thai flag and if the pole is short enough or long enough.
My original question was, are you proud of your own country as to display your national flag or you have just forgotten everything living the good life in Thailand?
Pride comes before the fall...and how the Greek nation has fallen!

Seriously though, nationalistic fervor is bullshit.  Hanging any flag so low in that soi really is slapping people in the face with it. I am happy to live in my country but I don't think I need to wave the flag about it. And for the many and varied reasons previously mentioned, I would never display my country's flag at my residence in Thailand.

When did it fall?
Last time I spoke to them, they assured me it's still free.
No money..........but free.

Well Costas, while you were away a few bad things happened to the economy of Greece which has caused social hardship on a massive scale.  I am sure you have many happy memories of Greece Costas. And it will probably be always in your heart but at the moment, not a lot to be proud of I am sorry to say.

If I can quote some reports....

When the New Year kicked off in Athens, a pall of smoke hung over the city. Steep hikes in fuel prices had pushed people to burn wood to stay warm, and even discarded Christmas trees were being fed into the fires. At the same time, a series of small explosions targeted the offices of the two major parties, New Democracy and Pasok, as well as the residences of several prominent journalists

and another

Greece's economy has been in a mostly downward spiral since the country joined the euro in 2001. ....Despite last year's (2010) 110 billion bailout and the introduction of harsh austerity measures, the country has been unable to balance its books.

and for good measure

While workers and pensioners are being overtaxed, which has resulted in a significant reduction in consumption, and despite the severe cuts these people have suffered, driving almost half of the population to poverty, Troika- the IMF/EU bailout programme, and the government have done very little to tackle the real problem of tax evasion.

I love the comment by Thaddeus by the way.

Raybal5, quite agree with you, and many thanks for the links provided.
But you have to understand, Greece is my country, the country I was born, the country I grew up.
And I'm very proud and love my country, whatever the situation is there.
At the moment, the only physical connection I have with Greece is that flag, flying on my front gate.
Please, allow me to retain the good memories, I don't hurt anybody.
I really hope, for the good of Greece and the good of the EU, as a whole, better days will come.
You can do whatever floats your boat Costas. I was just discussing the topic of national pride as raised by yourself and expressing my opinion. In my country, the culture is that while official buildings and some companies fly the flag, individuals who fly the flag at their home are considered to be weird and a bit sad. l have no desire to fly a flag anywhere. I am perfectly capable of keeping my good memories of home without the need for a public display of a piece of colored cloth.
8. Your topic heading is problematic. It should read, in what countries can I apply for a Thai visa. Just like only USA issues USA visas, only Thailand issues Thai visas. Of course they do have consulates in many countries and those are the only places to apply.

I'm not sure why you couldn't find it on google. I used Thailand consulate list and it was the first in the list. Here is the link.
