  1. it is a marriage VISA. I used to apply a new multiple re-entry permit when I get the new VISA extension, keep it for that particular year, safe and done.

for some years, I left the country with the expiring VISA extension and come back using the new one, that had no problem with the VISA extension.

since no travel this year I have no re-entry permit with me.  can I leave the country without a re-entry permit (end Jan), and come back using the NEW VISA extension and the new re-entry permit (effective Feb 1) ?  would the re-entry permit need to be "paired in-and-out", or it is really the "re-entry" ?

    cheers

  2. hi there
I will renew my VISA extension in Jan, and it will be effective on Feb 1.  I will travel from the last week Jan to the first week Feb.  Currently; I don't have a re-entry permit.

WONDER - (scenario 1) do I need a single re-entry permit to leave the country and return with a new re-entry permit effective Feb 1?  OR, (scenario 2) I just leave the country with no re-entry permit (for the current expiring VISA extension) but come back using a 'fresh' re-entry permit effective Feb 1 ?

    your ideas are welcome !

cheers and Happy New Year !

  3. DON'T GO TO Immigration at MTT !!

last working day on Apr 12. after Songkran starting on Apr 18, the office will be relocated to TWO locations :

    i) Notification of residence for foreigner (TM30 at counter A) and 90-days Reporting (TM47 at counter B) will be returned to the Immigration office at Chaengwattana

ii) Short Term VISA and Special VISA (counter K), will be moved to a new office at IT Square Laksi

perhaps, Apr 18 may not be the best day heading to their new offices !

my VISA extension expires at mid Mar, and I used to go to CW in mid Feb. this year due to covid-19, not sure if CW still limits application 3 days ahead the due date.

I am in Bangkhen, not a problem going to CW just for the transfer of stamps. if there is not TIME LIMIT, then I could go this week or next week, saba saba !

YES, there is a form for transfer stamp but it is not coded as T.M.#

on the Bangkok Immigration there are TWO similar forms, so confused !

    https://www.immigration.go.th/en/?page_id=3202
1486548856727.doc Request that the stamp be moved to a new passport.

1486548719379.doc Request to transfer the stamp to a new passport.

anyway, print it out and fill it up before heading to CW.

    cheers

  5. hi there

my old passport expires in March and last week (Jan 18) I already got a new passport from my embassy. what next ? went through the Bangkok Immigration site but not much information. my homework found following. any advice ?

    QUESTIONS :

    1. how soon I have to go to CW after old passport cut, new passport issued ?

    2. any online booking, or walk-in ?

    3. form : transfer stamp to new passport form, download from here

        1486548719379.doc OR 1486548856727.doc

    4. supporting documents :

    5.1 passport photo ?

    5.2 processing fee ?

5.3 do I need to update other Thai authorities ?

    cheers

  6. @BritTim and @ubonjoe

THANKS !!  I get the concept, it is using the 60-days extension (visiting wife) as a kind of time bridge that connects the existing permission to stay (expire early March) and the application of the new permission of stay (as soon when I come back). sounds all doable, the only effort is applying the 60-days extension and the single re-entry permit. let me drill down all the details and start preparing it. feel a lot more comfortable !

MANY THANKS, and stay healthy, stay happy !

  7. 2 hours ago, ubonjoe said:

You could apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife to delay applying the one year extension if you have not applied for one since you last entry with a visa. You need to get a re-entry permit to keep it valid when you enter the country.

thanks Ubonjoe, it looks a workable solution ! I never do this before, what should I do when and how :

    - before leaving Thailand, get an one-time re-entry permit on the existing year-on-year VISA

    - before leaving Thailand, apply for a 60-day VISA extension visiting wife, (and get an re-entry permit on it) ?

    - during I am away, my existing year-on-year VISA extension will be expired at the due date

    - upon returning, I use the new 60-day VISA extension visiting wife to enter the country

    - upon returning, although I entitled for a 30-day VISA free, do not use it

    - after returning, within 30 days (60-30 days consideration), apply the new extension on the last year-on-year VISA

    - when the extension of the year-on-year VISA is valid, I stay in Thailand with the new extension, till the new due day

    - I don't need to leaving the country for activating the new extension of the year-on-year VISA

yeah, definitely it is my first time doing it !  thanks !

  8. hi there

my next VISA extension (marriage) on early March. and mid Feb I return to my home country for renewing my passport then come back to Bangkok for the VISA extension. I foresee that I may not able to meet the due date on applying the VISA extension.

any grace period on this date ? or any official way that I could apply a 2-weeks postponement ?

    thanks in advance !

How do you connect from outside your own network to your NAS and IoT  devices as you seem to be behind  a CGNAT   100.101.xx.x  IP at the WAN interface  and a different internet facing (public) IP address  ?

for IoTs, I keep them all local, as they are very vulnerable in terms of security. I don't have a solution yet.

for data, my most current data that need to be shared or be collaborated, all on OneDrive. then my WD MyCloud NAS comes with a relay service that could be accessed via web or via app. they are personal data and a photo library, usually I only switch on the cloud access when need.

yeah, the fixed IP service is not that budget friendly in Thailand. would Dynamic DNS a solution for your application ?

  10. PROBLEM SOLVED !!

don't blame True Gigatex modem / router ! it has no problem.

don't blame double DHCP , double DNS ! it is manageable.

at the end of the line, the Linksys RE6500 wired extender (bridge mode) is hidden in the cable trunk of the ground floor. while configuration updates and power cycles, it out of sync and cause conflict. now be fixed and the network back on and running hard !

THANKS EVERYONE who provides information and supports the troubleshooting !!

Full disclosure: I have not followed the OPs machinations.

I've never, ever seen an ISP modem failure here, and that's over 15-ish years (back to the ADSL-icene era), and ~ a hundred customer installs. Yes, I will stipulate that that CPE sometimes fails.

Planning everything for such an infrequent occurrence seems, well, eccentric, and not in a good way. Sure, if it's a moon-shot, feel free to over-engineer it, but in the end it's still pron and cat videos.

Perhaps there is something unique to your environment (heat, moisture, mains) which cause excessive failures?

you are a lucky one ???? within this past 12 months, True replaced their fibre modem / routers 3 times, in different area of failures.

the concept is right - keep the ISP equipment as universal as neutral, as a single function of connecting to ISP (WAN IP, WAN gateway, WAN DNS), then keep the LAN side configurations behind on own equipment (DHCP, SWITCH, WLAN, AP) and customised them per application. with LAN configurations on own equipment, even ISP modem / router is sick, I still can reach my NAS, connect to smart home devices and IoTs.

3 years ago this Linksys router performed exactly the same functions (own DHCP own wifi behind the ISP modem). I switched it off since True comes with big powerful modem / router, for the sake of better wifi coverage.

I expect this is a plug and play as it was 3 years ago, nevertheless this exercise today it seems overly complicated and over engineering as some of you suggested. this is never the intention.

perhaps, my end point is clear - I want to have a network that is NOT REPLY on True's whatever modem / router (which is very faulty recently). if I put the one DHCP server back to the True's equipment, then I won't reach this goal.

    Incorrect.

My devices connect to my private modem/s. The private modem/s connect to my providers modem. This is what you want.

could you please explain these two points in a bit more details ! I logged a service request to True and they will show up on Tuesday afternoon. so I still have time to refresh the networking concepts.

If you almost never connect anything new to the true router you can turn off DHCP on the True device and just use manual IP addressing, but that is not the problem as nothing on the Linksys network can see (should be able to see) the True DHCP server.

hours ago I start power cycle the DNS on the Linksys to 203.144.207.29. STRANGE it connects for a minutes plus, then internet gone with no error message. but now even with the power cycles, no internet, no default gateway, no DHCP, no DNS on the Linksys ?

That seems to be overly complex network with 2 pool of IPs and 4 times the tech "resolution" for what is a home network

Keep it simple always work, one class of IPs, one DHCP server with a large range (100 hosts) and never had a problem connecting to the internet

always looks good on paper, but a PITA to make it work if you miss one small parameter or the switch software is full of minor bugs

totally agree with you, keep it simple is the principle ???? I am just going through the mess and complexity, and find simplicity.

perhaps, my end point is clear - I want to have a network that is NOT REPLY on True's whatever modem / router (which is very faulty recently). if I put the one DHCP server back to the True's equipment, then I won't reach this goal.

or, would my concept totally inapplicable ? please share !

  15. my approach - whatever True devices, the hardware and the configuration should be independent, and not affect the LAN side configurations. so, I want the True device feeding internet only, but not the routing function, nor the wifi. this is what we used to do with modem, routing, switch, and access point, all separately.

this is a home + work, LAN side internal security not an issue. most devices (computers, NAS, switch, extender, TV . . .) are connected via CAT6. only portable devices are on wifi.

below are the configurations I recorded on both devices. YELL if I made a silly mistake, I don't cry !

True Gigatex Sercom ST-244F modem / router
    WAN interface ppp0_nas_0
    WAN protocol PPPoE
    WAN IP 100.101.xx.xx from True
    WAN gateway IP 100.101.xx.x
    WAN DNS 203.144.207.29

    LAN IP 192.168.1.1 (@LAN1)
    DHCP enabled, 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.16
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    LAN gateway 192.168.1.1
    DNS relay enabled
WLAN 5.0GHz hidden SSID : emergency (for testing), AC only / auto channel / WPA2 AES
    WLAN 2.4GHz disabled

    Linksys EA7500 wifi router
WAN IP 169.168.1.x (via ethernet DHCP from Sercom ST-244F)
    DHCP enabled, 10.77.10.2 - 10.77.10.25
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    LAN gateway 10.77.10.1
    DNS 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 1.1.1.1
    DHCP reservation 10.77.10.2 - 10.77.10.9 (5 LAN, 3 wifi)
    WLAN 2.4GHz, SSID : WLAN03_2.4GHz, N only, auto channel
WLAN 5.0GHz, SSID : WLAN03_5.0GHz, AC only, auto channel
Mac address cloned - of the main desktop, via LAN

    NAT enabled, UPnP enabled
    Cut Through Forwarding enabled
    Application Layer Gateway SIP disabled
LAN4 ethernet connection to a Linksys LGS108 switch
then ethernet connection to a Linksys RE6500 extender in bridge mode

MESH or non MESH makes no difference at all.

The problem is that simple configuration assumes settings that may not be (often are not) true.

If you want security then there are many settings that must be correct.

if you want simplicity the settings are different.

at the moment I have 2 main modems and about 7 subsidy ones in bridge mode that link music. I have 3 (actually 6) LANs configured. Is it easy to miss configure? Absolutely if you don’t throughly understand the theory. But “monkey see monkey do” can avoid the need to get that education

YES, certainly I may miss some configuration on the True Gigatex Modem / Router, AND on my Linksys router ! that why I come to here ???? let me organise the details and post here for reference !

IP address conflicts arise over time. I just had to trouble-shoot this very problem this past Monday.

The switch is fine, but the secondary router (Linksys) needs to be properly configured. DHCP turned off, IP pool arranged, root IP of secondary router changed, and an assigned a static IP on the primary router.

What is the exact model of the Linksys router?

For this application I always recommend (for non hobbyists) a newer multi-mode router, which can be configured in "Access Point" mode. Plug and play. We've used this one - obviously not for flashing custom firmware -  https://www.tp-link.com/th/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-c6/ in a number of installs. Supports 5 GHz WLAN, and has GbE. I think these are under 1,500 THB.

thanks and understand your point. I have checked it is not IP conflict, I limited the DHCP on the True Gigatex Modem / Router to 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.16, and check all IP accordingly.

happened to me, the True whatever modem / routers are so bad and they died every 3 months; I don't want to rely on their router. I have computers, AP, switch, printers, NAS, smart home & IoTs around, every time True replace the modem / router, I have to re-setup everything. that's why I want to have a self contained network with its own routing table, when True modem / router sleeps again, I just call and replace a new modem / router.

I come back later with more details . . .

I'm using the Lynksys Velop TRI band routers (Mesh Network) connected to the true Gigi- byte router.

I ended up calling True and they sent someone out to configure it.  Very helpful!

He ended up doing the configuration.

Its working beautifully now.  12 of these lynksys mesh router nodes all over the property inside and out, amazing technology.

My advice is to have a guy who speaks relatively good english or have a translation with you go over it with the True IT guy who comes over.

This way you can get an idea in case it fails to work later.  Get the guys personal number and leave a good tip.

Same guy comestibles to my place now if I run into problems.

YES, these days I lot of users connecting own MESH routers to the ISP modem / router. the configuration between the ISP modem / router to MESH or to non-MESH router is the same. I think I stuck here on the configuration.

You mean the clients don't get a default gateway or your True device doesn't get a default gateway?

just back online via different connection. to be exact - the True Gigatex Sercom ST-244F Modem / Router has WAN IP and WAN gateway 100.101.xx.x, and it seems working alright. while I connect the Linksys EA7500 to the True Gigatex Modem / Router, the Linksys router actually CONNECTED, but no default gateway, no internet.

  20. hi there

a week ago I put a Linksys wifi router and a switch (LAN-side) behind the True Gigatex Fibre Modem/Router (WAN-side), it runs fine but then in some evening it has no internet (symptom : no default gateway).

I suspected that True Gigatex Fibre modem restricts connection to additional LAN-side router. anyone experience this ?

    some technical info :

WAN-LAN connection : 192.168.1.1, DHCP is ON, wifi is OFF, internet is fine

LAN-side : 10.77.10.1, DHCP is ON for all connections, NO INTERNET neither via wifi nor via LAN, 4 computers 2 smartphones all no default gateway (ipconfig /all)

    please help, cheers !

we never go to the immigration with the Kor Ror 2 from the amphur, but this year was the first one. when we presented the original marriage certificate (colour printed) and the B&W copy, and the Kor Ror 2 from Amphur, the IO said IF we have the original marriage certificate with us, then the Kor Ror 2 is not required. (March in Immigration 1, Chaeng Wattana, Bangkok)

  22. been experienced the same since Monday last week, no luck. been try different set of data (including testing wrong data), on different computer and on freshly installed device, the app and the site responded the same error - 'contact your local immigration office'.

since my expiration date is exactly next Tuesday (that is in between 2 public holiday next week). to avoid the craziness of next week, I went to MTT this morning. a bit more busy than usual, in and out about an hour but still not too bad.

certainly MTT is not on our hit list, but go there this week may avoid unexpected crowd in next 2 weeks !
