  1. You did a really good thing, action when needed.I had something very similar but in a lake I was just walking in the water about waist deep and suddenly people started yelling,i looked up and saw people pointing at me,in a reflex i felt around me in the water and i felt a small body. Pulled up a four year old girl, she was ok but a few seconds can make all of the difference. Learn to swim and teach your kids.
  2. Same as every year and the same talk as every year will follow along with the same action as every year. Nothing.
  3. Imo there is no such thing in Thailand,i see a lot of people show up to try for their license in a car driven by themselves. Once they pass the test they are free to go onto the highways and byways and learn to drive. I have taught a few Thai people how to drive and behave in traffic, most people never apply any of the rules they need to know to pass the exam. Scary how some people drive here, for whatever reason.
  4. I have used this kind of jack many times both for bigger trucks and heavy farm equipment. Yes i would prefer the biggest saddle but in real life it is often too small. Solution is a solid block of wood.
  5. I had the same issues as you have now, moved a few times and also wondered how to change this. In the end i just left it,i changed things when my license needed to be extended. I have been stopped but no one ever looked at my address. So my advice, just leave it for now.
  6. She was accompanied by the same guy who was in the news a few weeks ago driving his car while holding Kratom, maybe that is one of the reasons no one noticed her falling out?
  7. I hope you all will forgive me for posting a recent song, a song for peace.
  8. Corruption and extortion?Very bad of course but i do not think you can consider this is what happened to the op. Remember we are not in Europe or Kansas,we live in Thailand and things like this are the norm here. good or bad, this is the way the system functions over here and it has been this way for a long time and it will not go away in a hurry. We all have things we do not like here from time to time but it comes with the territory.
  9. Thank you for this much needed much overdue topic. I am sure it is one of the questions people ponder over all of the time. Same category as "What is the meaning of life?" Anyway i asked the lady of the house and she slapped me! For myself,i will consider plucking my 20 or so chest hairs and i will let you know if my life improves drastically .
  10. Placing big speakers in their direction at 7 a.m.will just bring me down to their level and i am sure the other neighbours will not enjoy it either. Joining them is no option because the noise from that distance already makes my head spin. Moving is also no option for a few reasons. The same house just over a year ago had a kid living there with a very noisy motorbike and he would go up and down the soi numerous times per day at full speed. I thought ,'one of these days he will wipe out and it will be quit. That day came last year we heard him start his bike and he came our way revving the hell out of the bike,then.............quiet.He wiped out .Job done. Just maybe they will get so drunk one day they will decide to shoot each other, does it make me a bad guy to hope for that?
  11. It is ten past two am right now and i am still up. Not really by choice but the neighbours about 200 meters away are having another Karaoke night and it is FF loud! It started around 8 lastnight and it was not too bad in the beginning but i suspect alcohol is also part of the fun and the screaming keeps getting louder. Now i know there is nothing i can do about it because i am not Thai and maybe i am the only one who is not liking this. Don't get me wrong i have nothing against a party but why does it have to be sooooo FFFF loud! and why keep going after midnight? Probably because they just do not care about any one else and they know they can get away with it. We have other people living around here with small children and i think there must be other who object to this but since this is Thailand you are not going to confront any one. Pretty soon one of them will take out his gun and starts emptying a clip into the air, like he always does. Am i going there and yell at them? They will shoot me and blame it on me ,the dirty farang. Well hope fully it will be over soon so i can get some sleep. Rant over.
  12. I could have asked"What are you doing for fun" but not that kind of fun. Of course there are many members who are working everyday and have no time for hobbies. I think most retired old folks like me ,have lots of time to do things. My own hobbies? We have about 5 rai to keep weed free and trying to improve things all of the time. Last week i knocked a wall out of the workshop and this week it should get expanded by about half. I do a lot of stuff in the shop from woodworking to welding to whatever needs fixing. Being and ex factory maintenance mechanic i like to fix and install things and if something stops working i get interested. I also like to go camping, loading all the gear on a small bike and going somewhere for a few days.I like beach camping. We also have a lot of animals, chickens, ducks, rabbits, doves, cockatiels, quail, canaries, dogs, fish and a whole bunch of pigeons. Trying to breed special color pigeon has been my main hobby for a few years now. In the old country i used to race them but i am too far away from Bangkok now. So what keeps you occupied?Besides drinking of course.
