  1. If you want to go to Bangkok by bus,at night, my advice would be to go with www.nakonchaiair.com located at the rear of the Arcade Bus Terminal. Not the cheapest but the safest and most reliable.Time table is on their web site and from memory buses leave around 9-10pm which gets you into Bangkok quite early next morning.

I can agree with that .The best coach service to Bangkok from Chiang Mai.

  2. I don't think the change in the lease terms is the only cause of the Demise of the Old Bell, I tend to think I have been told the place was for sale a couple of years ago .Is this action by the owner of the building just the final straw that broke the camels back?.

  3. Step-daughter off to college last Thursday, so went in nearly 2-weels early to immigration to combine 2 trips into one (it's a haul and I don't enjoy the long day it requires there and back, but like the over-night's less. Arrived 6:30 AM and though third at the "standing only" was #29 for a 90-Day report. other than that my experience and timing was very similar to jollyrog

The latest RE-ENTRY stamp and 90 DAY REPORT information Thursday 10 AM........................

    ...

Arrived Immigration 7 AM #42 in line. By 8 AM there were almost 100 in line across the parking lot. The first 15 to arrive had numbered seating near the entrance door. The rest of us stood in the morning sun until 8 AM. An umbrella would help as it was very HOT !

8 AM door opens.....received #42 number card......found seat inside.....Thai Immigration staff started calling entrance numbers from center desk....in sequence, no exceptions. At 8:15 #42 was called I centered myself to their direct front and handed over my completed paperwork for a RE-ENTRY stamp. Upon their approval I was given the station # & reservation #...

8:45 my # (505) was called to counter 2 and processed quickly. The woman had not arrived until 8:30 but she commented about having children she needed to get to school first AND then the traffic.

Two issues as to why NOT to use an outside agent.

FIRST: I've seen nothing that assures me the agent bears ANY liability if ether they fail OR one of their employees runs some scam with the data. There is no such thing as protection for expats that I've yet seen in Thailand, no bonding, no legal recourse... or absolution from complications outright. This is just a service that has popped up that anyone can do and I'm not willing to risk my peace of mind for 4 days without travel.

The SECOND reason is that it is already obvious that pricing can vary at whim. What was 1,000 baht for the year of 90-Day reports is now 1,500 baht... a 50% increase in only a few months of operation. There is a pay-off somewhere, else the paperwork could presented by a person requires the physical presence of the passport... and once you are in for a little, you'll likely be in forever more... at whatever the market will bear.

Can you let us know which of the visa companies is now charging 1,500 baht for the 90 day reports. Is it a new company as you say within a few months of operation. the ones I know have been in business for a lot longer than that .

  4. If you want Setanta it is on the cheaper Entertainments package with True. A downgrade on True plus the full CTH package is probably going to be not a lot more than the True Gold package is now and should get you a lot more channels to potentially watch. Whether having loads of channels is a good thing - we'll wait and see.

I checked the Truevision's website they dont have Setanta on the cheaper packages anymore only on Gold upwards,Please correct me if I'm wrong

I have just downgraded to the super entertainment package for 790 and you still get Setanta plus true sports 2 5 6 7 Setanta is on true sports extra 1 channel 117 plus other sports channels
