If you keep in mind one simple sentence, you should be safe from most scams like these
"If something seems to be to good to be true, it probably is"

I'm confused, the airport link should be extended to Pattaya? What about the proposed high speed link to Rayong that would incorporate Pattaya? Are there 2 projects or are they the same?
Me too: interested in the link to Pattaya.
Will it actually stop near pattaya, or 5 kms from pattaya, from where it will be almost impossible to get a meter taxi. The only alternative will be for tourists (and locals) to be gouged by songtheaw mafia to take them to their final destination. If that is the plan (or non-plan) then save the money, as no one will use the link.
This means Mr. Wan, please think this through BEFORE spending taxpayers money... unless (mis) spending taxpayers money is the actual objective of all of this.....

Stupid welshman....
He should have organised relations with the BIB more conveniently.
I am not talking about bribes, off course as we all now know that they do not ever accept bribes.
-
That is a truly miraculous statement, and I would love to know how many judges who will try the case have paid fines without receipts.
They even give change if you can't break a 1000 baht note, and I used to get credit from a local policeman for future offences (right turns where not allowed ; 50 baht a pop in those days) but saved 30 mins in traffic

The buffalo soldiers were out in force it seems

All this education nonsense is a complete waste of time for this country. Thais will always be appreciated around the world as long as they can grow rice, cook, and erm.... you know.... erm (not allowed to say that... ) erm make toyotas.
stick to the basics.
-
its dangerous to put the country in this sort of peoples hand
i can feel the "change" coming.....Thai only......
I have a long tradition with tis country.....but never had this guts" feeling that we are in for chaos.
Chalarm a the helm..........i am reconsidering my position in the Kingdom.
Use your office to strengthen the reds: JatupornKey Red Shirts pledge: no political favouritismIt's tragic to see a country put in the hands of people like this.
I feel the same. After 20 years here, I am starting seriously to look at options that do not involve Thailand.
Time for us unwanted farang rats to abandon ship.

It is truly miraculous that these tuk tuk gangs survive.
B8 billlion more for TAT seems a drop in the ocean.
I think abject poverty for these guys is the only way to fix it.... vote with your feet and wallet.

Sure blame anyone and everyone except the parents who had seventeen years to bring him up right and teach him responsibility.
whatever: I think the government should help the poor shopkeeper, the poor kid, the poor victim, the poor parents, the poor liquor distributor.
It's all the governments fault: let the poor taxpayer pick up the tab.

I wish they had included my phone number on the betting slips!

If these guys want a fight, they should be invited to join the Paras: first jump over Afghanistan. No parachute!

I hope this guy will become prime ministress one day.... he is on track!

The election was the the foretaste of the bitter pill that all Thais will have to swallow before too long.
This pill is not one that I would wish on any nation, but it is necessary medicine: ask the french or russians.
The one eyed leading the blind is limited by nature, and the alternative is a difficult one.
Lets hope that Yingluck works for the common good in a heavy sea.

it is a sad fact that I feel quite happy about this.
I honestly believed that the balance of trade in scamming was totally in favour of the Thai side.
Keep up the good work!

yes sir: the proverbial will hit the fan in the next month or so

It is part of the whole capitulation of the state against vested interest groups.<div><br></div><div>Has anyone noticed how people drive these days, compared to 20 years ago? </div><div><br></div><div>Basically they are waving the finger at the powers that be. Maybe with right, but still a definite trend in MHO..</div>

I think the ministry of commerce should take note. Thailand has potential to become a south-east asian or even world planking "hub". The place is perfectly suited to this. Forget about banking, e-commerce and cars. Stick to bonking, planking and food!
-
Only 2000-3000 complaints.
I estimate that at least 2,000- 3,000 incidents of bribery by traffic policemen and putative offenders alone take place every day around the country, though that may be a very conservative figure.
Add to that the bits and bahts required here and there to run a bar, or motorcycle taxi gang, or food stall on a street: there are probably 100's of thousands of instances of corruption taking place every single day in the land of smiles.
I can only conclude that Thais like it that way.
You make your bed and you sleep in it.
Karma!

I would think that smoking causes far more premature deaths than unsafe sex - that's a ridiculous article.
I'm not sure about that. Unsafe sex causes unsafe births, which eventually leads to death (usually about 75 years later). Therefore the leading cause of death is sex. QED.
Drink also can lead to sex, by the way

Good good, just keep shooting the messenger, usual Thai style, and all will be OK.
I am sure that the Patong Deputy Mayor is an authority on dark influences on the island, and he just saved me a trip there to see for myself.
I am sure that the program aired on German TV will also contribute to the fight against carbon emissions, so keep up the good work guys!

The majority of comments above show about the same amount of ignorance, when it comes to Thai mores, as the "boobies.
This is NOT your country or a European country. Before you came here you should have done your homework and read up on what is expected of visitors. And using the small percentage of Thais who are in the sex trade is not good form when arguing a point.
As an expat of 6+ years, I find myself ashamed of the way farangs dress, both on the beach and on the streets. Someone should also say something to the hairy men who insist on wearing underwear shirts in public, such as at the mall and in theatres.
All of us should remember our manners while in this great (with exceptions) country.
My only problem is with the aesthetics of the exposed bits. In general, the local talent beats the imports hands down. Maybe that is why there is a cultural taboo here, as a well presented local pair would draw attention, and possibly create traffic problems, whereas the imported version in general is not worth a second glance.

World wide most all universities do NOT force adults to wear uniforms. This is just a symptom of Thailands ancient mindset about how to control youth, which is utterly out of tune with world standards. Unless you couldn't forced wearing of Chadors for muslim unis.
No young girl wants to look like just another cipher in the same clothes as ALL her friends, so they use what assets they have by wearing the tightest clothes that show off what they have. If they were free to dress as they chose, in a reasonable manner, they likely would dress MORE conservatively relative to tightness and what they try and show.
The 'authorities' are clueless about all this.
I agree totally here... This could be the beginning of the end for Thailand.
I think most farangs here have learned to tolerate rampant corruption in government, army and police, but here we draw the line!
I walk to work every day through Prasarnmit University, just after reading about the above mentioned ills in Thai society in the Bangok Post, and the only thing that keeps me vaguely sane is the uniforms of the lovely sexy students.
Please please please, do not take that away from us!

I think it is a very fine thing that these guys shoot themselves as early in life as possible.
Personally, I think they should give them all a session with 9mm Glocks just after they have played the national anthem in the morning.
Those who have problems controlling their temper will quickly be eliminated, and the gene pool can only get better.
If not, they might go on to be uncontrolled drivers or worse still, become national politicians.

Let the Thai people handle these matters,
it is NOT our business.
It's ok to read aboud the fact, but dont comment on it.
Look at your own garden ,you will never be a Thai and Thai never
listen to a farang, why should they?
-
I am all in favour of it. It will get rid of pesky farangs, trying to invest here.
That will weaken the baht, and keep Thailand in the stone age.
Nice for those in the driving seat,

Thai PM To Ask Bangkok To Open All Floodgates
in Thailand News
Posted
It is once again reds against yellows.
Bangkok yellows against up country reds.
It's difficult to predict the physical outcome of the floods, but the political outcome is a disaster in the making for the nation.
I do not think that the previous government would have handled it anything other than slightly better, since orders did not need to travel 4000 km.
I do hope that the people who took the PM's baht, will fight the PM's war, which means sacrifice and suffering for them.
But I doubt it...
