  1. For info:

    Netscape.jpg

Netscape have released a new version of their internet browser, v8.0.1

    Features include:

    Tabbed Browsing

Tabbed browsing lets you have multiple web pages open in one window. This feature is great for organizing and freeing up desktop space because it files your web pages in a series of tabs.

    Site Controls

The new Netscape Browser gives you more ways to make your browser secure than any other browser.

    MultiBar

MultiBars let you customize up to ten different browser toolbars you can access with a single click.

    Form Fill/Passcard

The Netscape Browser makes remembering your site passwords and filling out information forms on site simple.

    Live Content

With Live Content you have one-click access to information important to you.

    More details here.

    Download link (13.2MB) here.

PS - You may also want to read their Release Notes which starts out "The Netscape Browser Version 8.0 - based on Firefox..........." here :o

    cheers :D

  2. Kringle - As h90 indicated, you haven't provided much info for us to go on. As you apparently don't use this printer very often, the problem is probably caused by clogged heads. (If this is the case, new cartridges won't help much.)

First, run a half dozen or so "software cleaning" routines using the Canon printer's software.

If that doesn't help, reinstall the printers drivers from the original CD.

If neither of the above work, and if your mechanically inclined, check this link for details on how to remove and clean the heads, using a can of compressed air.

    good luck :o

  3. Your probably already aware the International dialing code Thailand-Libyia is: 001 + 218 + City Code + Tel Number

Have you tried contacting an International Operator and asking her/him to place call for you (either Person-to-Person or Station-to-Station) and to remain on the line until your party answers the phone. Costs will be more than what you would normally be charged for on a Dial-it-Yourself call, however, with an operator on the line, they will see if there is any problem with the multi-circuits your call passes through, and will re-route your call or contact the repair authorities should a problem be found.

Also ask the International Operator to confirm correct dialing codes, as numbers may change from time-to-time.

    good luck :o

[edit] Have you looked into the free"computer-to-computer" or low cost "computer-to-phone" calling, using software like Skype? [/edit]

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc demonstrated for the first time Monday its PlayStation 3 video game console that features realistic high-definition graphics the company claims match the image quality of large-screen movies.

In a media preview for the Electronic Entertainment Expo, North America's largest trade show of game consoles and game titles getting under way Tuesday, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed the outline specifications of the new console it says will be put on the market in the spring of 2006. "Empowered by the Cell processor with supercomputer-like performance, a new age, of PlayStation 3, is about to begin," Sony Computer Entertainment President Ken Kutaragi said in a statement.

  5. GoodHeart - Was the Office Depot Bt10/page for one sheet of paper, printed on both sides (preferable if a book) or single-sided printing?

Negotation is the name of the game. There should be some competition down the street, around the corner or a few blocks away.

Then again, depending upon how many pages you need to print......borrowing/buying a used inkjet printer and some counterfeit cartridges could be another solution.

...or, ask the Internet Cafe what they would charge (per page) if you brougnt your own paper and ink. :o:D

    cheers :D

  6. Typically inaccurate newspaper report.

But the brick-and-morter video rental store continues to survive in the midst of all these new technologies. Experts say its place in the market -- for the time being, at least -- is secure.
Tell that to Blockbuster who recently reported a 58 million dollar loss in the last 3 months.
...as video rental stores also sell pizza, ice cream and other goods and services.
They've been doing this almost since day one.
Meanwhile, DVD prices continue to decline and sales are soaring; new in-the-store, major-title movies are available for under $5.
In actuality, DVD prices for new releases are rising. A year ago, the average new release retailed for $19.95. Todays average price on a new release is $22.95. The $5.00 releases the article speaks about are mostly old films dating back 20 years or more. (Some DVD's of films made in the '30's and '40 can be found for $1.00 or less.)

The motion picture industry is and always has been paranoid when it came to new technologies. When TV came along, they wouldn't allow their pictures to be shown, for fear people would stop going to movie theaters (cinema). Never happened. Same thing when video (VHS/BETA) first came along, until they discoverd they could make a fortune selling old films on tape. Again they cried wolf, when the first laser disks came along. Today, its the internet. Movies you download off the net (for a fee) are purposely "degraded" as well as encoded to prevent duplication and resale. Their fear now is loss of DVD sales.

Today, video sales account for 60% of a pictures income/profit. Bad films which would, in the past have lost money in theatrical release, more often than not breakeven or make money through video sales and rentals alone.

Save you tears for the poor & hungry. The movie industry is neither. :o

    cheers :D

  7. The newer wide screen format TV's have circuitry which permits them to "stretch" a standard TV picture (ratio 4:3) into the wide screen ratio (16:9). It can do this in several ways. If you have the TV select the best way automatically, it might get "confused" by the broadcast signal and start switching modes ad hoc.

If this happens then take it out of auto mode and select the wide screen setting that best suits the program you are watching.

    Probably the cause.........

however, check to make sure your not sitting on the remote control. :o

    cheers :D

  8. I believe most of these seminars are directed to people who want to visit Thailand, rather than residents, and who can writeoff the cost on their income tax as an "Educational" or "Business" expense.

Several such promoters hype this on their websites. (Upon receiving full payment, some will mail you a receipt before you leave home, stating you had already attended the "classes".)

The above practices are also quite common in the cruiseship industry. Cruise for a 7-10 days, eat and drink your fill, attend a couple of 1 hour lectures......write everything off on your taxes.

    Guess it beats working. :o

    [edit] spelling [/edit]

  9. wilson steer - Have seen this problem a number of times. In two (2) cases it was caused by a DOS game damaging Windows drivers which turned off the screens backlight. A Windows reinstall corrected the problem. Check to see if your screen is still working, by viewing it from an angle, in semi bright light. If you can see a "washed out" dim image, then the backlight is turned off, but the LCD screen is still working.

In one case, it was caused by a "sticky" on-off switch.

In the other cases, the ribbon cable (which is actually a "flexable" printed circuit silkscreened onto a plastic strip) had developed a crack in one of its tracks, or became "unseated" from either the screen or PC board connectors.

Unless your very technically oriented, would leave any repairs requiring opening of laptop to qualified service personnel, preferably a factory authorized repair center. If the cable or switch is the problem, repair costs should be minimum. (From your description, it appears the backlight is working, so be grateful, as that is one of, or the most expensive item to repair.)

Finally, be sure to backup all important data before attempting a system restore or mechanical repair.

    cheers :o

  11. For info:

The new "Dashboard" feature in Apple's recently released Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger operating system, can allow "Widgets" containing malware to be downloaded, installed and run without the user's knowledge or permission. More info here.

Users can turn-off the automatic Open "Safe" Files by uncheckung this feature in Safari.

    -or-

Download and install a small utility named "Widget, The World Watcher 1.0" at this link. This program will notify you (via a popup window) when the OS is attempting to download a widget, thus allowing you to accept or reject the installation, or save it for later examination and use.

(Disclamer: I am not a Mac user, thus have not tested nor can I personally recommend the above utility.)

    cheers :o

  12. In my previous post, forgot to add that Symantec (Norton) only update the definitions file downloaded through the NAV "AutoUpdate", once a week (Wednesdays). Therefore if you want the latest protection, download and install the definitions from link shown earlier.

    cheers :o

  13. PETERTHEEATER - Symantec (Norton) update their antivirus files every weekday, and on weekends where necessary. You can download the latest definations file and install it manually from this link. (New updates are posted mid-afternoon, Pacific Daylight Time (GMT-7).

Just download the version which best fits your needs and run it. It will automatically search your system and update all the definitions.

On a personal note, would second RDN's recommendation on AVG. It is more system friendly than NAV and ........... you have to admit it's hard to beat FREE. :o

    cheers :D

  14. Walter Watkins -

A - If you are accessing your Hotmail account(s) throught the website portal, it will be slower than using Outlook or Outlook Express, due to the necessity of downloading a cookie, or as MS refers to them - "Passports". (Note: if your hotmail account was established before 2005, you may use Outlook or OE to retreive mail. If the account was established in 2005, you cannot use any "pop" utilities.)

B - Check your filters. They can be "adjusted" to prevent most such problems.

C - "....however most junk mail I receive is usually Viagra related, is this because of my age?" I doubt it, unless of course you gave them all your personal specifics and "measurements". Most all of us get these spams at one time or another. (The older you get, the more flattered you'll feel receiving these "invitations". :D )

Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo and most other providers have sued and shut down many spammers, however, they're like cockroaches. They show up again and again (mainly in third world countries) which have no "anti spam" laws. Recently one of the largest was arrested in the US and is awaiting trial. He may get 20 years in jail.

D - Go into hotmail and review your Profile and uncheck any "requests" for notifications you may have checked when account was originally established. Also, if the emails are from legitimate financial houses, there should be a link to a website where you can remove your name from their mailing list.

E - Not quite accurate. If you do not access your hotmail account within 30 days, it is labeled "Inactive", but still accessable. If you do not access it within 90 days, it is then subject to cancellation. (Exact details are listed in their "Policy" statement.) As a precaution, you might want to copy your Address Book and emails over onto your computer, then copy/burn them to floppy, CD or DVD.

F - Attachment size use to be 1MB and was only recently increased 10 MB. If you can't send attachments larger than 2MB, suggest you contact Hotmail Support and ask them for clarification. (If your on dial-up, possibly there is a "time-out" problem effecting your attachment upload.)

Hope above answers a few of you questions.

    cheers :o

  15. ......Key loggers would be no good because all that they would get is CTL-C and CTL-V keystrokes.

If only that were true. :D

Unfortunately, most keyloggers have the capability of storing not only Clipboard (CTL-C) content, but also "pictures" of what your viewing on your screen at any given time. :D

Always assume someone is looking over your shoulder when your computer is up and running.

    :o

  16. .....It's nice that Nero wakes up and provides a Linux version. However there is already kde's k3b which burns all my CDs / DVDs and that easy and comfortably, with a nice GUI.

Is there anything where Nero is better than k3b? Haven't used it for a long time.

If your happy with K3B, no reason to change. Christian Kvasny and everybody in the K3B org should be congratulated for their fine work in developing that software.

Nero, on the other hand, currently leads the pack in burning software sales with their v6.6.x being standard with Sony, Plextor, and HP burners, as well as many others.

The only true test would be for you to personally test-drive both. If you do, please report back your findings (good or bad) for others to study.

    cheers :o

  17. .....All bottles of GNC are now with home made stickers covering content of the bottle and dosage......

This would be a serious violation of their GNC franchise agreement and, I would suspect also, a violation of Thai law.

You should report them to the proper authorities.

    sexually challenged morron.....genderless creature
Not illegal, as far as I know. :o

    cheers :D
